When the task manager is vertical, the text on the digital clock is too small
to read. It would be nice if there were an option to turn the text vertical or
some other mechanism to make it readable on a vertical task manager.

I have a similar problem:
I have 2 x 4k screens and each has a similar but slightly different panel. I
tend to leave my PC running overnight but if I turn off the screens in the
evening and then turn them on again in the morning or if I enable the
screen-saver, then on resuming, usually the panel from the left screen appears
on the right and then panel from the right screen appears on the left. I have
opened the display settings and pressed the 'identify' screens button and the
screens identified match the display position as shown in the graphic (I assume
each monitor is uniquely identified here, so the identity should be expected to
report the physical actuality), so it seems the config for the panels either
doesn't reference the screen ID or forgets it.

My work-around is to go into edit mode for each panel in turn and drag it to
where I originally placed it.

File Associations window with KDE Connect Open As...

Not sure if this bug is in Dolphin or KDE Connect, but when right clicking on
any file in Dolphin, I get "Open with Open on connected device via KDE Connect"
for all files as the top option, regardless of file type. This also triggers
KDE Connect when clicking on an unknown file format after downloading in
Chromium.

Version of KDE Connect is 21.12.3-0ubuntu1 on KDE Neon.

I've searched through the File Associations menu and the option also appears
there for all file types (side note, I thought I read recently there was a way
to change all File Associations at once, but I can't figure it out.) I've also
search through various mimetypes files on the system but did not find that
option.

Desired resolution would be to remove this association everywhere it occurs.

It would be great to see some progress on this! I've lost data multiple times
from this bug while filling out PDF forms (lengthy forms, unfortunately). Not
being able to "Save As" is a real disaster. Was looking for an alternative to
an Adobe product for this task, so it's especially disappointing.

A few more details: I'm editing a local file (no browser downloads) but it's in
a directory monitored by syncthing. Nothing has changed the file, but it's
possibly changed some metadata which, from skimming this thread, seems to be
enough to cause the problem?

Ooh, that's good! I saw View Profiles and thought it was something to do with
colors and toolbars, but not something where I could set the default encoding.
That will work nicely for me. Perhaps section 4.1.7 of the Okteta Handbook
could be expanded to identify the types of things that the Profile can affect?
I searched the Handbook for encoding, but it's not listed as something a
Profile can change.

Thanks!

[okteta] [Bug 465770] New: Remember Encoding or Allow a Default to be Set or Accept Command Line Value

   Version: 0.26.9
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist

 Component: general
  Assignee: kosse...@kde.org
  Reporter: g...@rhobard.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Okteta currently defaults (on my system at least) to ISO-8859-1 for the
character encoding. I only use Okteta to view EBCDIC files so I have to change
the encoding on every file I load. It would be useful for Okteta to do one of
three things:

1. Remember the encoding set by the user via View->Char Coding
2. Allow a default setting to be set (this appears to require the existence of
a Settings->Default menu)
3. Allow Okteta to accept a command line argument specifying the encoding of
the document

Perhaps #2 is the best option, since there are currently a few outstanding
wishes that could also be placed there. Bug #441925, #462703, #421357, #170926,
etc.

Either way, the addition of this behavior would greatly help me in my work, and
hopefully others.

This is the 5th time I've checked into this over the past year or so, finally
decided to create an account to add to the chorus asking for this.
I can only assume that theres a bunch of others like me who expect this from
their clipboard manager, but cant be bothered with the hassle of commenting.

this is legitimately the second most important feature of a clipboard manager
(second only to retaining a history of copied content)

I guess its back to (otherwise inferior) clipboard managers for now, I'll check
back in in a few more months

Last failure mode was the HDMI connected monitor going black and staying that

FWIW, on my machine, I'd say this bug has significantly regressed. I used to
only very rarely have black screen issues. Now they are common. It is very
disappointing that this bug has been treated as such a low-priority problem -
when it is quite remarkably bad. I've been using KDE for almost 20 years but
right now this is right on the edge of driving me to Gnome as well.

I reinstalled OpenSUse Leap 15.3 (which is a current LTS release, I believe),
so should be sufficiently current until 15.4 turns up. If this is an issue,
then it’s questionable whether SUse are doing a competent job for their LTS
release. In the meantime, I’ve switched to OpenSUse Tumbleweed, which seems to
have fixed the issue.

Plasma5 crashes with the same SegFault (11), every time my desktop goes into
screensaver (or comes out of it - difficult to tell exactly when)
new additional note: it crashed again while I was filing this bug and even
Alt+SysRq_S/U/B didn't work. Hard power off. Then when I rebooted it happened
again but this time didn't freeze everything.

In case I didn't already mention it. Every time I boot, the first thing I see

[kde] [Bug 450008] Move Handles on File Menu Titles

Apps in which I see the problem (which also applies to all submenus and submenu
selections (i.e. File->Close) in all top level menus) - Dolphin, Kate,
Gwenview, Okular, Ktorrent, QbitTorrent and Okteta. Apps in which I did not see
the problem - Inkscape, all LibreOffice programs, FileZilla, Audacity,
Handbrake.

No KDE apps fail to exhibit the behavior, as far as I can tell.

Breeze Theme, Oxygen Application Style, Air Plasma Style, Plastik Window
Decorations, Oxygen Icons.

Running in Plasma on X11.

menus (File, Edit, View, etc.) I see little handles on the word (for example,
when I click on the File menu, I see small white rectangles in all four
corners.) Might be related to a specific theme. See attached image.

Problem only seems to occur in KDE programs.

I can confirm the workaround works for me. It appears the problem is more

When I select "JPEG Image" from the dropdown of "File type" the "Automatically
select filename extension" says "(.jfif)". No where do I say use .jfif.
Manually changing the extension in the Name box does not allow me to save the
image as a .jpg or .jpeg.

See attachment.

There is certainly a bug here, resetting to Reopened.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my report, it happens on every and any files,
regardless of original format, whether a screenshot from Spectacle, a gif from
the web, or a picture from a camera phone. So it's not something related to the

One place this certainly occurs is after a search has been executed in a

active Dolphin window opens Konsole in the home directory, rather than in the

[dolphin] [Bug 446879] New: Opening Konsole from Toolbar with Search Bar Open Sometimes Opens Konsole in Home Directory

2021-12-12 Thread Greg Lepore
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446879

Bug ID: 446879
Summary: Opening Konsole from Toolbar with Search Bar Open
Sometimes Opens Konsole in Home Directory
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 21.12.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: search
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: g...@rhobard.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

I frequently open Konsole via the toolbar button in Dolphin, after I have
navigated to a deep directory location and I want to act on those files. After
I've navigated to the directory I want, I click the Konsole button and a
Konsole is opened at the location I've navigated to. However, on several
occasions Konsole has not opened at the proper directory location, it has
opened in my home directory. Unfortunately this is not completely reproducible.

I will report back if I can come up with a reproducible system.

screenchot of reconciliation window

SUMMARY

When the balance is negative, it is displayed in red but without any sign on
the ledger. It may be a new feature...

But when I am doing reconciliation, I have to set a balance for the end of the
period, I do it with the negative amount as my balance is (unfortunately)
negative. The negatice sign "-" is not accepted
Then, it is not possible to do the reconciliation until you have a positive
balance

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. have a negative amount at the end of the period of reconciliation
2. set the negative amount on the reconciliation balance Target
3. See that the negative amount is not counted as negative.

OBSERVED RESULT
Failure in reconciliation when balance is negative

Thank you for the reply.
I have updated to 7.3.0
Most of the files are jpg or png.  For my use case the intention is to work
with bitmaps only.
DB is SQLite
Not sure how best to get you the config info, so here are a couple screenshots
which I hope will help - any other guidance to get you what you need would be
helpful.

Thanks again,

Probably already fixed in last 7.3.0. Please update.

Also we needs to know your metadata settings from config panel, especialy the

The files tagged are JPEG, RAW, PNG, TIFF, Etc... ?

Which kind of database did you use ? sqlite, mysql ?

I do not have the Document Switcher installed. Installing it does make Alt-Tab
work correctly, albeit with an onscreen indicator that I don't love.

I wonder if a clean install of Kate does not switch tabs without the Document
Switcher? If so, the Wish should remain, as that should be the default
behavior.

Thanks.

[kate] [Bug 439264] New: CTRL-TAB does not switch tabs

2021-06-28 Thread Greg Lepore
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439264

Bug ID: 439264
Summary: CTRL-TAB does not switch tabs
   Product: kate
   Version: 21.04.2
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: g...@rhobard.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Just a general observation, but the KDE Human Interface Guidelines indicate
that applications with tabs should:

"Provide keyboard navigation to switch between tabs with Ctrl + Tab (Ctrl
Shift + Tab for backward navigation). For compatibility reasons it is
recommended to also support Ctrl + PgDown (Ctrl + PgUp for backward
navigation)."

It appears Kate 21.04.2 does not support Ctrl + Tab to switch between tabs.
Rather Ctrl + Tab indents the current line. Nor does Kate accept Ctrl + Shift +
Tab.

Ctrl + PgDown and Ctrl + PgUp do work as designed.

I guess this is a wishlist request to have Kate fully support the HIG with
respect to tabs.

Folder names do not match after renaming

SUMMARY
When renaming a folder in the left hand pane of Dolphin, which is opened as a
tab in the right hand pane of Dolphin, the tab title displayed in the right

2021-04-15 Thread Greg Lepore
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435766

I worded my report incorrectly, I was holding Shift and clicking on the Move to
Trash button, expecting that to Delete, rather than moving the file to the
Trash. I believe this was the previous behavior with that button, but it should
probably just Move the file to the Trash, as the button states.

The keyboard combination of Shift and the Delete button still deletes the file.

[yakuake] [Bug 433435] New: Right Click Copy Entry Missing

Right Click Copy Entry Missing

SUMMARY
An odd error where the right click entry for Copy disappears when using Yakuake
after a while. I believe the bug is related to the Find menu being used, as I
have also found problems there.

Selecting text and copying the data via right click is normal behavior,
however, after a unspecified time of using Yakuake, the Copy entry on right
click is missing. See screenshot. Note that the standard KDE behavior of
copying data by selecting it (to middle click paste) is also not working.

Once the entry is missing, I cannot get it back, but the entry is still present
in other open tabs of Yakuake.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Yakauke for a while
2. Perhaps use the right click Find.. option
3. Try to select data and Copy it via Right click

OBSERVED RESULT
Copy entry on right click is missing

EXPECTED RESULT
Copy command is present and works on both selecting the right click entry, and
via copy-on-select

This will also improve the support for mouse cursor icons. I switched the

Looks like I was wrong about that, apparently xdg-decoration spec says:
> [...] clients are responsible for preventing configure loops and
> must make sure not to send multiple successive set_mode requests
> with the same decoration mode.

On the Chrome side they have fixed the excessive calls (should be in next
release), this ticket can be closed, resolved as "not a bug" on the KDE side.

That sounds wrong, I have opened a bug for it:

Not freeing memory after dropped decorations is probably still something that
needs to be fixed on the kwin side.
