[kio-extras] [Bug 487926] New: VLC fails to open video in smb folder if password is saved in KWallet
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487926 Bug ID: 487926 Summary: VLC fails to open video in smb folder if password is saved in KWallet Classification: Frameworks and Libraries Product: kio-extras Version: 24.05.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Samba Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: m...@iyanmv.com CC: sit...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Not sure if this is the right place to report this bug. Please, feel free to move it to the right category. I recently noticed that when trying to open videos from a smb shared folder, VLC will fail saying that "Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'smb:/..." if the smb user and password are saved in KWallet. I can only reproduce this issue on a laptop connected over WiFi. In a PC connected over ethernet (and with a fixed IP) it always works. Not sure if it's relevant, but just in case someone tries to reproduce the issue. Also, this is not a regression, it also happens with Plasma 6.0.5, not just in Plasma 6.1 Beta. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a shared folder with Dolphin writing smb:/// 2. Type user and password when asked and click on "Remember password" 3. Try to open video from shared folder with VLC (it works) 4. Reboot computer (or exit session and login back) 5. Open same folder with Dolphin (no user or password is asked as expected) 6. Try to open the same video with VLC (now it fails) 7. Open KWalletManager, search "smb" and delete the entry with the user and password for that shared folder 8. Repeat the steps above, and now it works again 9. If in step 2, password is not saved, and user and password are manually introduced every time, VLC always work OBSERVED RESULT VLC can't open videos if user and password are saved in KWallet. Other video players always work (e.g. Dragon Player or mpv). EXPECTED RESULT VLC should also work all the times. Super cool feature! It is way faster than using the screen built-in menu. Unfortunately, even though it works perfectly after booting, it becomes a bit unreliable over time. It has happened already a few times but I still couldn't manage to find an exact series of steps to reproduce the issue. At some point, the slider doesn't do anything any more. Other times, the brightness is changed to the very minimum, and after that trying to move the slides shows weird values like "inf%" or "nan%". I'm happy to help debug this since probably it's a very hardware specific thing, but perhaps someone else can replicate the issue with other monitors? STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start Plasma 2. Lock the screen a few times 3. Turn off and on the monitor a few times 4. I hope this is not intentional and it's a regression form KF5 -> KF6, because it looks super weird to have icons change style depending on the status. Also, if that's on purpose, I think it should be the other way around, since the color version brings more attention to the user than the monochromatic one. I attach two screenshots where you can see "this bug" affecting the KMail icon. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a screenshot with Konversation in the other status, but I guess it's easy to reproduce. I attach one screenshot to show the current position of the notifications. The wrong position continued even after disconnecting the external monitor. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Attach external monitor 2. Try to change brightness, volume, etc. 3. Disconnect external monitor 4. Try again to change brightness, volume, etc. OBSERVED RESULT OSD notifications are not centered and close to bottom as usual EXPECTED RESULT OSD notifications should, in my opinion, only be displayed in main display. If a laptop is connected to an external monitor or projector, OSD should only be visible in the laptop, unless the built-in screen is disabled or, of course, in unify output mode. Why? Imagine the setup of a laptop connected to a public projector. Changing the brightness only affects the built-in screen and it is distracting for the people watching the projector (slides, video, etc.). In any case, after removing any external screen, the position of OSD notifications should be correct on the built-in screen. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481550 Bug ID: 481550 Summary: Blue grading in the display rectangle changes with scaling and system settings window's size Classification: Applications Product: systemsettings Version: 5.93.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_kscreen Assignee: kscreen-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: m...@iyanmv.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY The new style do show the screens in the Display Configuration has a beautiful blue grading in the bottom. However, this grading uses the whole area of the screen for certain scale level or for different system settings window's size. It is hard to explain by words so here is a video of the issue: https://drive.switch.ch/index.php/s/eLgHpLympTDaxxl STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open System Settings -> Display & Monitor 2. Change the window size 3. Change the scale level OBSERVED RESULT The blue grading changes with both the window size and the scale level, even without applying the new settings. [kwin] [Bug 481460] Zoom window enlarges continuously without user interaction
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481460 --- Comment #5 from Iyán Méndez Veiga --- (In reply to Vlad Zahorodnii from comment #4) > By "x1", I meant a scale factor of 1 Sorry, my bad. No, also in Wayland with 100% I cannot reproduce the issue. It only happens with certain fractional scale levels. For example, 125% triggers changing the width, while 150% triggers changing the height, although that finish early because I guess the window has some hardcoded maximum height. Here is a new video testing different scale levels: https://drive.switch.ch/index.php/s/R04sQcItuKyc83S The video also shows two other (minor) issues: 1. Two mouses are recorded in Wayland 2. The blue line in the display configuration for some scales is a thin bottom line, but others is a grading using all the rectangle space. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

For example, it was possible to have the home directory sorted by Name and the Desktop and Downloads by Modified. In Plasma 6 RC 2, these settings seem to be hardcoded and cannot be changed. All folders are sorted by Name except Downloads which is sorted by Modified time. Any changes are lost after closing Dolphin. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Dolphin 2. Change option in Settings -> View -> Display Style 3. Change sort order of Desktop and Downloads folder 4. Close Dolphin and open again OBSERVED RESULT How folders are sorted is not saved anymore. Other things like view mode do work. EXPECTED RESULT Sort option should be saved as part of the display style. These boxes have a click box on the top right corner. If the user click on those, the tick is shown but the share button is grayed out and disabled. Only clicking on the content area works (and also changes the click box). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open OBS Studio (or any other app that allows to share screen) 2. Add a new source 3. [kwin] [Bug 481460] New: Zoom window enlarges continuously without user interaction
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481460 Bug ID: 481460 Summary: Zoom window enlarges continuously without user interaction Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.93.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: m...@iyanmv.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY This is a funny issue. I don't know if it's caused by Qt 6.7 or by some changes in Plasma 6. I also remember having a similar issue with Inkscape in the past before it started to work correctly as a native Wayland app, so probably this only affects XWayland apps. When opening certain windows (e.g., the "Share screen" window during a call), they enlarge continuously and indefinitely without user interaction. It's hard to describe so I will try to record a video later. The window first starts to expand to the right of the desktop. Once it reaches the end of the screen, it starts to push the window to the left so it gives the impression the app is expanding to the left. When all the width is used, the window continues to expand to the right outside the screen range. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Zoom (probably other XWayland apps suffer from this issue too) 2. Start a call 3. Open Share screen window OBSERVED RESULT What is described above, the window continuously expands its width to the right. EXPECTED RESULT Window has a fixed size unless the user manually changes it SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.93.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.249.0 Qt Version: 6.7.0 Kernel Version: 6.7.4-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 8 × 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz Memory: 15.3 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics Manufacturer: LENOVO Product Name: 20XYCTO1WW System Version: ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[systemsettings] [Bug 481234] New: Confusing info message without clear action
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481234 Bug ID: 481234 Summary: Confusing info message without clear action Classification: Applications Product: systemsettings Version: 5.93.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_powerdevil Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: m...@iyanmv.com CC: k...@privat.broulik.de, natalie_clar...@yahoo.de Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY If the "Stop charging at" option in the "Charge Limit" section is higher than 85%, an info message is shown saying that «Regularly charging the battery close to 100%, or fully discharging it, may accelerate deterioration of battery health. By limiting the maximum battery charge, you can help extend the battery lifespan.» Leaving aside the accuracy of the message, I think that the message should come together with a clear action or suggestion to the user. For example, a button that changes the "stop charging at" to 85% or a recommendation at the end of the text. Otherwise, the user has to go through a "trial and error" to remove the message. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to System Settings -> Energy Saving -> Advanced Power Settings 2. Info message is shown by default because charging limit is 100% by default. OBSERVED RESULT There is no clear action for the user. Only the text "by limiting the maximum battery charge". Then the user has to try to reduce this from 100% to a lower value until the message is gone. Why 85% and not 90% or 80%? EXPECTED RESULT Such a info text with a warning about hardware damage should come with a more clear and direct instruction action for the user to apply the change. [systemsettings] [Bug 481225] New: Some ideas to improve the interface to change the custom times
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481225 Bug ID: 481225 Summary: Some ideas to improve the interface to change the custom times Classification: Applications Product: systemsettings Version: 5.93.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_nightcolor Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: m...@iyanmv.com CC: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY The new interface to change custom times when night and day colors begin feels a bit weird. I asked a few different friends and family members and here I summarize some ideas to improve it. First, the top bar looks super good and it's the first thing the user tries to use. However, as it is, it only shows information, but it is not interactive. Why not allow the user to drag the limits there directly to change the custom times? If this is possible, perhaps it is even okay to remove the time fields below. Hour numbers in the bar look also a bit weird, specially the zero. Why not 24 so it's clear? Or 00, 01, 02, etc.? Or use the locale settings and use 24h or 12 am/pm format. The am/pm text can be shown on top of there is no space together with the numbers Finally, in the two fields to change the time, the first thing all users try to do is to delete the numbers, but this is not possible. I think at least, the delete key should move the position to the left. The user has to use the arrow or click at the beginning of the number to introduce the time. I think these fields should be more intuitive and feel more responsive. Probably this is not a thing to improve here but on Qt or Frameworks. [plasmashell] [Bug 481223] New: Change default layout for external screens
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481223 Bug ID: 481223 Summary: Change default layout for external screens Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 5.93.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: m...@iyanmv.com CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY Historically, default layout in Desktop Settings has always been "Folder View". I understand the reason for this: users coming from other OS such as Windows or macOS would expect their Desktop files to be visible directly in their desktop. However, I think this is not the correct layout for external monitors for privacy reasons. Same as the default mode is not "unify outputs" but to extend the desktop, I think the default layout should be "Desktop" with the default Plasma background (ideally, this could be even configurable) so that user's desktop files are not shown. At least, since the multi-screen in Plasma 6 works reliably, it is possible to connect the external screen, change the layout, background, etc. and next time the same screen is connected, these settings are restored. However, in some situations (e.g, connecting a laptop to a new projector during a meeting) it is not possible to prepare the setup in advance. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Connect a Plasma 6 laptop to a new external screen OBSERVED RESULT All files in desktop are leaked to the audience EXPECTED RESULT Only a plain desktop background is shown. The user has to actively change to "unify outputs" or manually change the layout to "Folder view" for that to happen. [kwin] [Bug 481222] New: Restore native screen resolution after detaching external monitor in unify output mode
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481222 Bug ID: 481222 Summary: Restore native screen resolution after detaching external monitor in unify output mode Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.93.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: multi-screen Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: m...@iyanmv.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY First of all, a big THANK YOU for all the hard work and improvements around the multi-screen support. Plasma 5.x always felt a bit unreliable when connecting external screens. The RC 2 already feels much much better. Specially the "unify output" mode, which was quite broken in Plasma 5.x in my opinion. After playing around with different setups, I only notice one small bug. My laptop has a 16:10 screen. When I connect at 16:9 external monitor and I change to "unify outputs" mode, the resolutions (correctly!) changes to a 16:9 one. There are some black bands in the built-in laptop screen (as it should!) and the external screen shows exactly the same as the laptop without any artifacts as it happens with Plasma 5.27.10. However, when detaching the external monitor, the 16:9 resolution is kept instead of restoring the native 16:10 one. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Select native 16:10 resolution on a laptop (in my case 1920x1200) 2. Attach an external 16:9 monitor (in my case I tried with a 1920x1080 one) 3. Switch to "unify outputs" mode 4. Detach external screen OBSERVED RESULT Laptop keeps the 1920x1080 (16:9) resolution with black bands on the top and bottom edges EXPECTED RESULT Laptop should switch back to its native 16:10 resolution before the "unify outputs" mode was enabled SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.93.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.249.0 Qt Version: 6.7.0 Kernel Version: 6.7.4-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 8 × 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz Memory: 15.3 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics Manufacturer: LENOVO Product Name: 20XYCTO1WW System Version: ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 460974] Black screen for a while if session unlocked during the "unlock without password" time
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460974 Iyán Méndez Veiga changed: What|Removed |Added Status|CONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |FIXED --- Comment #3 from Iyán Méndez Veiga --- I don't know if some changes in 5.26.7 fixed this, or if it was fixed by changes in mesa or the kernel. In any case, I can't reproduce this issue in any of my systems (with AMD and Intel graphics). Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.6 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.107.0 Qt Version: 5.15.10 Kernel Version: 6.4.1-arch2-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 8 × 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz Memory: 15.3 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics Manufacturer: LENOVO Product Name: 20XYCTO1WW System Version: ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 461427] Native Wayland apps appear blurry after switching off and on a display with scaling enabled
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461427 Iyán Méndez Veiga changed: What|Removed |Added CC||m...@iyanmv.com --- Comment #6 from Iyán Méndez Veiga --- I can replicate this with a AMD GPU but not on my laptop with integrated Intel GPU. And it seems like all other reports also have AMD GPUs. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 459373] Maximized XWayland apps leave pixel gaps when using a fractional scaling factor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459373 --- Comment #42 from Iyán Méndez Veiga --- (In reply to Zamundaaa from comment #41) > Yes, there is at least one known additional issue, which will (usually) only > be between the panel and the window. Please create a separate bug report for > that, with the resolution + scale + if it happens with Wayland native > windows too Yes, exactly, it's only between the panel and the window, but ONLY XWayland apps, not Wayland native windows. Should I open a new issue or can we keep this one open? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 459373] Maximized XWayland apps leave pixel gaps when using a fractional scaling factor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459373 --- Comment #40 from Iyán Méndez Veiga --- Sorry to finish the "it's fixed" party, but after double checking on my laptop, I still get a 1px gap down (but not on the right). Is it possible that there is another similar issue affecting the vertical size? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 459373] Maximized XWayland apps leave pixel gaps when using a fractional scaling factor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459373 --- Comment #38 from Iyán Méndez Veiga --- As a side comment, I've seen several similar issues in the last months (I think since Plasma 5.25). Maybe is it possible to include some unit tests for the different scaling cases? Probably it fits the "Automate And Systematize Internal Processes" goal, no? The thing is that these issues are hard to debug, but very noticeable by affected users. Maybe for Plasma 6.0? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459373 --- Comment #37 from Iyán Méndez Veiga --- Too bad it didn't make it to 5.27.5. Hopefully, some distros will pick the one line patch. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
