Nope, sorry, the bugs is not solved. I locked the laptop while the external

[kate] [Bug 417328] New: Kate does not declare supported file types on macOS

2020-02-09 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=417328

Bug ID: 417328
Summary: Kate does not declare supported file types on macOS
   Product: kate
   Version: 19.12.2
  Platform: Other
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: application
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 125778
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=125778&action=edit
"Open With" dialog of a .txt file. Kate should be listed here.

SUMMARY
On macOS, Kate does not declare which file types it supports. The result is
that it does not appear in the "Open with" menu (see attachment) of files that
it supports, so it needs to be manually selected from the Applications folder,
which of course is a lot more cumbersome and time-consuming.

According to this
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19693311/associating-a-file-extension-with-my-application
file types can be declared in `info.plist`

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Choose a file Kate supports, ideally a simple plaintext file
2. Right click -> open with
3. Kate isn't in the list

OBSERVED RESULT
Kate is not listed as an option to open a file with

EXPECTED RESULT
Kate should be listed

2020-01-19 Thread Jan Przybylak

I think it should immediately ask for the password again after a failed
connection attempt, instead of stubbornly trying again until the server
mistakes it for a bot.

In addition, I also think an option the reenter the credentials, as suggested
in the original report, would be a good idea.

I can confirm that this happens with SFTP as well and it's very annoying. I
just accidentally entered the password for different key than the one that
corresponds to the server I wanted to connect to (my .ssh/config specifies the
correct key). The connections obviously fails and Dolphin reports a timeout.
The server's logs show that it tried to connect using multiple keys (which are
all wrong but can the unlocked with the password I gave), then my IP got banned
for too many failed logins. This also means that it doesn't honour the
`IdentityFile` property given in .ssh/config.

started a while ago, but I can not recall doing anything that could've caused

2019-12-07 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414036

After some testing it seems to me that this is caused by having the columns
"Upload" and/or "Download" activated in the list of all processes. I removed
these columns and ksgrd_network_helper disappered entirely.
I am also using graphs to see the overall network usage, they do not seem to
cause any issues. To test this, I openened two instances of KSysGuard, one
showing the process list and one showing a graph of the network usage. When
trying the wget example you posted, I did not see any issues.

[Spectacle] [Bug 413974] New: Spectacle notification popup doesn't open default file manager

2019-11-09 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413974

Bug ID: 413974

manager
   Product: Spectacle

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: m...@baloneygeek.com
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
CC: k...@david-redondo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
My default file manager is Dolphin, but I also have Thunar installed. When I
take a screenshot and then use the context menu in the notification popup (the
3 bars) to open my screenshots folder, it opens in Thunar instead of Dolphin. I
tried changing the default file manager to something else and back to Dolphin,
which didn't work.

I tested `xdg-open [Path to my screenshots folder]` and it correctly opened
Dolphin, so the problem must be on Spectacle's side.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Take screenshot
2. In the notification, click on context button
3. Select "Open folder with this content" (the actual string might be slightly
different since I had to translate it from German)

OBSERVED RESULT
Thunar opens, despite not being the default file manager

EXPECTED RESULT
Dolphin opens, the default file manager

As of Falkon 3.1.0 and QtWebEngin 5.13.2, PDFs can be viewed directly in the
browser.
However, it's quite clunky and there a still multiple problems:
- The PDFs can't be downloaded from the viewer, the 'save as' dialog wants to
save an HTML file, which is confusing
- There is no setting to enable/disable the viewer. Im sure some people don't
want this feature. It does not appear in the 'Extensions' tab of the settings

I can confirm this issue as well. When zooming in on a 4.7MiB, 2-page PDF
containing a large bitmap image (it's a scan), everything becomes pixelated and
stops loading. Okular's memory usage went up to over a gigabyte, with about 25%
CPU usage as well. It also spawned a second process which was stuck at ~25% and
didn't stop when I closed the window.

Running Okular from the terminal reveals that it somehow runs out of memory:

org.kde.okular.core: Running out of memory on page 1 (17333x25160 px);

This does not happen in other PDF readers like Xreader and Evince, which allow
me to zoom in and move around all I want.

Bug ID: 412527
Summary: KScreenlocker gets confused when changin displays
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
CC: bhus...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
It seems that KScreenlocker only queries the display resolution once at lock
time and never again.
It doesn't matter if the display changes while KScreenlocker is shown or the
device is on standby (where all screens are off)

Example:
I lock my laptop while an external display is connected an acting as the
primary display, so KScreenlocker adjusts to that displays resolution. If I
then unplug that display to switch to the laptop's internal one, KScreenlocker
moves to the internal display too, which is correct of course. However, it
doesn't adjust to the new, lower resolution so only the top left corner will be
visible.
Something similar happens when switching from a smaller to a bigger display,
where KScreenlocker will be too small.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Lock screen while using a big display
2. Switch to smaller display

OBSERVED RESULT
KScreenlocker doesn't adjust to the new resolution

EXPECTED RESULT
KScreenlocker does adjust to the new resolution

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

 Component: general
  Assignee: andr...@stikonas.eu

SUMMARY
KDE Partitionmanager seems to somehow mess with my trackpad driver (synaptics).
When I tell it to apply changes, my mouse pointer becomes much slower for a
while, like it's switching to a different driver.

* I did not find anything suspicious in dmesg
* It doesn't matter if it's an internal or USB drive

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new partition layout
2. Click "Apply"

OBSERVED RESULT
The behaviour of my trackpad changes

EXPECTED RESULT
Partitioning drives shouldn influence the trackpad. They've got nothing to do
with each other.

[plasmashell] [Bug 412292] New: Hidden panel appears too quickly

2019-09-24 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412292

Bug ID: 412292
Summary: Hidden panel appears too quickly
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.16.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
I've set my bottom panel so that it can be covered by windows. I don't want it
to waste space when I'm using a maximized window.
What then happens is that when I and try to access something at the bottom of
the current window, I will accidentally hit the mouse pointer against the
bottom of the screen. The panel appears, covers what I wanted to reach and
takes a while to disappear again. It's probably just a second, but it feels
like ages, which is very annoying when I quickly want to do something.
I suggest a tiny delay, maybe with a setting, to prevent the panel from being
displayed when the user just accidentally hits the bottom of the screen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set panel to autohide/be covered by windows
2. Accidentally hit bottom of screen, immeadiately moving the mouse somewhere
else.
3. Panel appears

OBSERVED RESULT
I accidentally make the panel appear when I didn't want to

EXPECTED RESULT
The panel only appears when I deliberately move the mouse to the bottom edge of
the screen. This usually means it stays there for longer.

SUMMARY
I'm trying to use Dolphin to connect to an SFTP server on port 213. Connecting
to the SFTP server listening on port 212 on the same hostname works fine, but
when trying to connect to port 213, the requests still go to 212 (Which I can
confirm by looking at the server logs).
This setup works on other SFTP clients, and normally logging in using SSH works
fine too.
I checked the logs using KSystemLog, where kiod5 reports that it connects to
the correct port 213 (which it obviously doesn't)
212 is the default port specified in both ssh_config and sshd_config.

I tried connecting to another server that uses port 22, this didn't work
either.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Try to use Dolphin to connect to an SFTP server that uses a different port than
specified in ssh_config and sshd_config

OBSERVED RESULT
Authentication failure because it tries to connect to the wrong server

EXPECTED RESULT
KIO accesses my SFTP share

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336369

While I support do the idea of a setting to customize which buttons are shown
on the lock screen, I think it would be a viable alternative to just put a
'suspend' or 'cancel' button there. Suspending the system when the escape key
is pressed would also be an option (current behaviour is showing the password
prompt, which I don't think is a good reaction to pressing escape).

[Falkon] [Bug 407558] New: Falkon thinks every string containing a dot is a URL

2019-05-15 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407558

Bug ID: 407558
Summary: Falkon thinks every string containing a dot is a URL
   Product: Falkon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: now...@gmail.com
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Falkon thinks every string containing a dot is a URL. Therefore, in the
combined search/addres bar, a string with a dot will not be send to a search
engine, it tries to open the page instead (which of course doesn't exist in
this case)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enter something.something into the search/address bar
2. Press enter

OBSERVED RESULT
Falkon will try to load a page that does not exist.

EXPECTED RESULT
Falkon recognises that the letters after the dot are not a valid TLD and
therefore treats the string like a regular search query.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
Don't treat every string containing a dot like a URL. Check if the URL is
valid, for example by comparing it to a list of valid TLDs. If it is not valid,
treat it like a search query.
Also automatically treat every string beginning with `https://` as a URL.

Searching the menu bar on a Mac

macOS's menu bar offers a very helpful search feature, it would be nice to have
that in KDE too. The way it works is that there's a search field in the "Help"
menu. That searches both the documentation and the menu bar items. When a menu
bar item in the search results is highlighted, it will show you where exactly
to find it.
I attached a video of what that looks like.

Currently, the settings can be accessed from the the "Edit" menu (like Gnome),
while most KDE apps' settings have their own top-level menu in the menu bar.
It would be nice if that could be changed to make KDE more consistent.

I know inconsistency does not make anything unusable, it just introduces
inefficiency when things aren't where you expect them, therefore making the
overall experience worse.

I think the notification badge on the app icon showing a zero when there aren't

When seeing this badge, one automatically assumes there are notifications,

Maybe there are edge cases where this would be a security issue (people

Most systems allow the user to choose whether to move the scrollbar to the
position of the pointer or towards it by a fixed amount when it is clicked.
Plasma, however, only offers that setting for GTK apps. In Qt apps, the user is
forced to use the default behaviour: Left click to move towards the pointer,
middle click to move to the position of the pointer.

A simple setting for this would improve the usability of scroll bars a lot.

[plasmashell] [Bug 401675] New: Don't show desktop switching animations when switching activities

2018-12-02 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=401675

Bug ID: 401675
Summary: Don't show desktop switching animations when switching
activities
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Activity Switcher
  Assignee: ivan.cu...@kde.org
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
When switching activities and the target activity is on a different virtual
desktop than the current one, the desktop changing animation should not be
visible. It kind of breaks the metaphor of activities being above virtual
desktops.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Be on different virtual desktops on multiple activities
2. Switch between the activities
3. See the virtual desktop being changed after the activity

OBSERVED RESULT
The virtual desktop changes visibly after the activity is changed

EXPECTED RESULT
The virtual desktop switching animation should be omitted when switching
activites

Comparison of the context menus (no screenshot because drop-down menus can't be
screenshot [Bug 401650])

SUMMARY
The items in the context menu that appears when right-clicking a file on the
desktop have a different order than in Dolphin. After getting used to the order
in Dolphin, using the context menu on the desktop is confusing and inefficient.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right click on a file in Dolphin
2. Right click on a file on the desktop
3. Compare the menus

OBSERVED RESULTS
The order of the two context menus is different, creating confusion

EXPECTED results
The order of the two context menus is the same, making using them more
efficient and reducing accidental selections of the wrong item.

[Spectacle] [Bug 401650] New: Can't take screenshots of Qt drop-down menus (keyboard shortcut)

2018-12-02 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=401650

Bug ID: 401650
Summary: Can't take screenshots of Qt drop-down menus (keyboard
shortcut)
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: m...@baloneygeek.com
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Screenshotting Qt drop-down menus (right click, global menu and possibly
others) with a keyboard shortcut is not possible. It works in GTK apps (I tried
Firefox), but it doesn't work on the Desktop, in Dolphin or Kate (probably
every Qt app).

Menus can be screenshotted by opening the menu and then pressing Meta to open
Spectacle via the application overview, but using a keyboard shortcut doesn't
work and doesn't produce an error message.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right click on something to open a drop-down menu
2. Try to take screenshot with the keyboard shortcut
3. Be annoyed

OBSERVED RESULT
No screenshot is taken and no error message appears

EXPECTED RESULT
Take a screenshot

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 401649] New: Mount network shares like external hard drives to make them accessible by everything

2018-12-02 Thread Jan Przybylak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=401649

Bug ID: 401649
Summary: Mount network shares like external hard drives to make
them accessible by everything
   Product: frameworks-kio
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: fa...@kde.org
  Reporter: jplx...@gmail.com
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Network shares that are accessed via KIO (for example an SMB server accessed
through Dolphin) can only be accessed by applications that support KIO.
However, many, including Konsole and many GTK apps, do not support KIO and
therefore are not able to access files on these shares, requiring them to be
copied to the local disk manually (and back to the server if they were edited).
Mounting network shares like external hard drives would make them accessible to
every application and thus enhancing the user experience significantly.

EXPECTED RESULT
When accessing a network share via Dolphin, there is an option to mount it. If
the user chooses that option, it is mounted like any hard drive (in
/run/media/$USER/) and appears in the Dolphin side bar, from where it can also
be unmounted.

Not necessary but useful options:
* A checkbox for auto mounting when the server is available
* Automatically unmount after a certain time, when the system is suspended or
the like to prevent accidentally disconnecting while it is still in use

I'm also experiencing this problem. However, I am unable to solve it by setting
a fixed cursor size because the setting isn't saved, it's always reset after
restarting system settings (Yes, I did click the apply button).
I'm using 2 monitors with different resolutions (laptop and external).

I would like to be able to customize what happens when the scroll bar is
clicked, just like GTK.
I know I can right or middle click to invoke different actions, but that's more
cumbersome and disrupting than a simple left click.

I do not use NVIDIA hardware.
In item view, the background of the System Settings application shows a
repeating pattern, instead of a uniform color or It stretches when the window
is resized.
It's quite faint in the screenshot I attached, I'll attach another one with
modified color so what I'm talking about is more obvious.

SUMMARY
When connecting KMail to a Googlemail account, a window opens that contains
Google's own login form.
The problem is that this window is not big enough (see attached screenshots).
It is not obvious that it has to be resized to be able to access the interface,
leading to the assumption that KMail is not compatible with Googlemail.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a Googlemail inbox just like you would add any other email account
2. Wait for the first window seen in the screenshots I attached to pop up

OBSERVED RESULT
Window too small

EXPECTED RESULT
Bigger window so the reason for its existence is visible
