[plasmashell] [Bug 482827] New: Floating top panel invisibly obscures top of maximized window
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482827 Bug ID: 482827 Summary: Floating top panel invisibly obscures top of maximized window Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 6.0.1 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Panel Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: athantor+kdeb...@athi.pl CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 Created attachment 166684 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=166684=edit Screen-cast of the behavior. Top floating panel, when one maximizes a window of an application, „un-floats”, but the part of the screen, where bottom of this floating panel was occupying and now taken by the maximized window, still receives mouse events (hover, click), in effect invisibly blocking interaction with top part of a maximized window, which, for example, makes difficult to click on its close button. Attached an screen-cast of the behavior. Please notice when elements light up: the desktop switcher brights up, when mouse cursor is still over Firefox tab and Firefox's tab lights up only when cursor is over its middle, over bottom part. After disabling panel floating, everything works as expected. Bottom floating panel seems to be „unfloating” properly. Tested only on X11, as Wayland doesn't work on NVIDIA ootb. SCALING: 125% HDMI-0 connected primary 3840x2160+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 700mm x 390mm DP-2 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm Panel located at HDMI-0 screen. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Add a top panel and make it floating 2. Open an app and maximize it 3. Try to click on its elements located at the top of the window. OBSERVED RESULT Panel „steals” mouse events. EXPECTED RESULT Maximized application receives mouse events. It all stared after kde-gear update to the 22.12 version. Attached an example with simple one-liner showing this glitching in `dialog` program (other ncurses apps show the same behaviour). ``` for i in `seq 0 10 100`; do echo ${i} | dialog --gauge "Glitching progress..." 10 60 ; sleep 0.5; done ``` I also have scaling enabled: ``` kk@kk ~ $ printenv | grep SCALE QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS=DP-0=1.25;DP-1=1.25;HDMI-0=1.25;DP-2=1.25; QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0 kk@kk ~ $ ``` After disabling the scaling, the glitching stops. This new, fancy word-mode is disabled. X11, proprietary nvidia drivers. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 450337] Multiple issues when primary screen is turned on & off in a multi-screen setup
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450337 --- Comment #8 from Krzysztof Kundzicz --- (In reply to Dick Tracey from comment #6) > Thanks! Can you try setting the primary monitor that is being turned on/off > to be on the right in Display Configuration, and doing the experiment again? > I only get the crash if that monitor is located at (1920,0) and not (0,0). Yeah, it doesn't matter if I put the external display on the left or right in the kscreen, nor if I make my laptop's display primary — it still messes the displays up. I've found the culprit of the 'disconnection' behavior: it's the nvidia 510 drivers. Xrandr output every 0.2s in loop, while turning the display off and the back on: HDMI-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 697mm x 392mm HDMI-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 697mm x 392mm HDMI-0 disconnected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm HDMI-0 disconnected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm HDMI-0 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 697mm x 392mm HDMI-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 697mm x 392mm HDMI-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 697mm x 392mm HDMI-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 697mm x 392mm It seems that disconnection is being reported while turning the display back **ON**. I've downgraded the nvidia drivers back to 495.46 and no disconnection is reported and plasma behaves as expected. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Also attached journal log after turning the monitor off and back on. New plasma treats turning an additional display off and on as it being disconnected and reconnected, which is different from previous version and just plain wrong. THE video, how it all looks: https://streamable.com/mbw1oa As you can see in the linked video, after turning the monitor off (with a power button), and **then** it on, plasma behaves as if the display was reconnected. This is divergent from every other system and standard which used „Anuluj” for the polish translation of cancel buttons, since always (AFAIK only macOS usus „Poniechaj” or something similar). Futhermore, „Zaniechaj” translates as „forsake” or „abandon”, not „cancel”. For polish users, accustomed to „Anuluj”, this looks absurd and is confusing. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=384620 Bug ID: 384620 Summary: Broken ncurses box() rendering with new terminfo for TERM=xterm (no rep?) Product: konsole Version: 17.08.1 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: emulation Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org Reporter: athantor+kdeb...@athi.pl Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 107812 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=107812=edit konsole with TERM=xterm (up), TERM=linux (down) and a xterm window (right) After ArchLinux ncurses package update to version 20170902, drawing boxes in konsole using ncurses' 'box()' function is broken for TERM env variable set to xterm and its variants. As far as I've found, it seems to be related to a change in terminfo.src: # 2017-07-29 # + add "rep" to xterm-new, available since 1997/01/26 -TD < http://invisible-island.net/ncurses/terminfo.src.html#t20170729 > Konsole seems to be lacking `rep` command support. Steps to reproduce: 0. Ensure you have the latest versions of ncurses and terminfo database. 1. Copy and paste example ncurses program's source from http://tldp.org/HOWTO/NCURSES-Programming-HOWTO/windows.html#LETBEWINDOW into a file 2. Compile it, eg.: gcc -lncurses -o boxtest boxtest.c 3. Run it, eg. ./boxtest 4. Rendered box (10 columns wide) is broken: its first and last row has only 3 columns; see attached screenshot In konsole-17.08.1 box is rendered broken. xterm-330 displays the box properly; TERM variable set to 'xterm', 'xterm-256color', 'linux', no difference, rendering always works. rxvt-unicode-9.22 with TERM=xterm renders the box *broken*. After changing the `TERM` env variable to, for e.g. 'linux' or 'rxvt', konsole starts to render the box properly. My locale: LANG=pl_PL.UTF-8 With my distro's previous version of the terminfo (2017-05-13), konsole rendered box()-es ok. Attached a screenshot: konsole with TERM=xterm (up), TERM=linux(down) and a xterm -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
