It is very disappointing that this bug has been hanging around since 2012 - the
problem I can confirm has not gone away 10 years later! The OP correctly
points out the following URL inputted into the carddav account creation section
of any akonadi-based app (korganizer, kalendar etc), does not connect to Apple
standardised carddav dav API, instead giving error 401. This has become a
source of some frustration for me after having spend this afternoon trying
various combinations of URL's and getting nowhere with this. The URL which
should work to give carddav access to my icloud address book is as follows and
is shown also in the attached image (I've hashed out the account id number):
```
https://p46-contacts.icloud.com/[#]/carddavhome/card/
```
I understand the p-number ("p46") changes also depending on the particular
account and when/where it was established. It's worth noting that this exact
URL works flawlessly without hiccup to add the same icloud address book to
Gnome Evolution using its carddav account creation tool for Gnome Contacts
access to the icloud address book. If Gnome can achieve this task without
problem, surely KDE Plasma can? There are about 1 million icloud account users
today so this problem must be worth attending to surely?

Anyway, please could someone take a look into this; I am very willing to help
with testing etc, and I can definitely help with access to an icloud account
for anyone needing to test this themselves. Do let me know -

I just fired up Elisa in a x11 session and discovered the same qrc error and
crash as described in my bug report. So, a bug for both wayland and x11.

Bug ID: 445624
Summary: Selecting menu entry "Configure Elisa" dialogue
crashes Elisa when running under Wayland
   Product: Elisa
   Version: 21.08.3
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: matthieu_gall...@yahoo.fr
  Reporter: robcollin...@gmail.com

For verbose print of what is going on, I started Elisa via the terminal.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. cmd "elisa" at terminal
2. select file>configure Elisa
3. Elisa freezes/crashes

OBSERVED RESULT
Elisa crashes/freezes (graphical interface remains on screen but unresponsive).
 The terminal outputs the following:

[Elisa] [Bug 445621] New: No music library indexed - baloo's fault it seems

2021-11-16 Thread Rob Collins
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445621

Bug ID: 445621
Summary: No music library indexed - baloo's fault it seems
   Product: Elisa
   Version: 21.08.3
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: baloo
  Assignee: matthieu_gall...@yahoo.fr
  Reporter: robcollin...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
0. Set up network samba share using systemd .automount and .mount units,
working fine with network music directory mounted locally as (not important so
I make something up here) ~/me/music/.
1. cmd: balooctl resume resumes normally and indexing seems to progress by
viewing with cmd: balooctl status
2. cmd: balooctl status shows the indexing is stuck with files left to index -
ie indexing appears frozen at a particular flac file after successfully
indexing x1000's of other flac files.
3. after a while a TagLib error is automatically printed at the command line.
The error seems to vary slightly each time but all errors are similar to
"TagLib: MPEG::Properties::read() -- Could not find a valid last MPEG frame in
the stream. "
4. interestingly, the supposed successful indexed flac file metadata of the
successfully indexed flac's do not show up in (eg) "artist" or "album" columns
in Dolphin.

OBSERVED RESULT
- baloo stops indexing, stuck with a remaining number of files to index when
balooctl status is entered in terminal
- metadata from flac files reported by balooctl status as successfully indexed
do not show up in (eg) "artist" or "album" columns in Dolphin.
- no music library appears in Elisa

EXPECTED RESULT
baloo should finish its indexing work and following finish should return the
following with the command "balooctl status":
Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexer state: Idle (Powersave)
Total files indexed: (some number)
Files waiting for content indexing: 0
Files failed to index: 0
Current size of index is (some number) MiB

- music library metadata should appear in Elisa and Dolphin (does not do that
with this bug).

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.15.2-zen (Garuda Linux distribution of Arch Linux)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.88.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
taglib version: 1.12-1 from archlinux "extra" repo

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have tried this under both wayland and x11 with the same/similar taglib error
results. I have had to swap to the "index files directly" option in Elisa
which is sad because that's not the indexing method intention of Elisa as I
understand it. I have filed a similar report under "frameworks-baloo".

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 445620] New: Baloo indexing crashes while indexing random vorbis-tagged flac files on samba share

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have tried this under both wayland and x11 with the same/similar taglib error
results. This bug is particularly problematic for Elisa music library
collation as it relies heavily on the baloo backend, and is the reason why I'm
here. I will submit this bug under Elisa also, being such a critical part of
that program.

[Elisa] [Bug 445187] Elisa fails to build music library for flac files

Rob Collins changed:

I tracked down the cause of this - an apparently corrupt baloo file indexer
database, To fix the problem I did the following in a terminal:
1. balooctl purge
2. balooctl disable
3, rm -rf ~/.local/share/baloo
4. balooctl enable
5. balooctl resume

You can check baloo's progress by typing balooctl status periodically and you
can see "Files waiting for content indexing: __" tells you how many files left
to index. When that entry goes to zero you know baloo is finished for now. If
everything has worked properly the entry "Files failed to index:__" should say
"0".

I fired up Elisa again after all that an presto - all my albums are now neatly
appearing as a library. As a side note you can check if your music files have
been baloo-indexed properly by going into Dolphin and opening a folder with
music files, right clicking , and adding in (eg) "album" or "artist" columns.
If those columns are still empty and you know there are metatags inside them,
then you know you've still got a problem with baloo indexing, and therefore
Elisa won't work.

[Elisa] [Bug 445187] New: Elisa fails to build music library for flac files

2021-11-08 Thread Rob Collins
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445187

Bug ID: 445187
Summary: Elisa fails to build music library for flac files
   Product: Elisa
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: matthieu_gall...@yahoo.fr
  Reporter: robcollin...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Elisa 21.11.70 from git repository. All my music files are encoded as flac,
and fails to be indexed into the Elisa library (no error given - the music just
doesn't turn up in the library). An example of the properties dialogue from
Foobar2000 for one of my music files is as follows:
Sample rate : 44100 Hz
Channels : 2
Bits per sample : 16
Bitrate : 623 kbps
Codec : FLAC
Encoding : lossless
Embedded cuesheet : no
Audio MD5 : 8A3282936DEE4E90D7C618E25ECE21D6

The file also has an embeded cover.jpg which is 500x500 pixels.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Elisa configure dialogue and select /home/rob/Music for music folder
location
2. Select "refresh music collection". Elisa displays "imported 22 tracks".
That is weird because there are 32 tracks in this test in that location.
3. Click "albums" - no entries there

OBSERVED RESULT
Clicking albums or any of the other options in the left pain (eg tracks artists
etc) shows "nothing to display"

EXPECTED RESULT
Expect to see an alum of 32 tracks in this test
