[ksplash] [Bug 470090] [Wayland][Nvidia?] Ksplashqml, plasma and systemsettings crash on login

2023-05-21 Thread Syfer Polski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470090

Sorry the mysterious function common to all crashes is
In ksplashqml:
#14 0x7f49aa4f17c8 in ?? () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Core.so.5
In plasmashell:
#15 0x7f8ef9cf17c8 in ?? () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Core.so.5
In ksmserver:
#14 0x7f29816f17c8 in ?? () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Core.so.5

The systemsettings crash seems to happen in different functions (except for
#12 0x7f298132b3e4 in QtWaylandClient::QWaylandDisplay::checkError
(this=) at ./src/client/qwaylanddisplay.cpp:211
but that's probably an error recovery function)

systemsettings only crashes on startup if it was opened before the user logged

plasma and ksplashqml crash 100% of the time, ksmserver crashes when attempting
to log out.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is an Optimus laptop - integrated AMD GPU and dedicated GPU. The Nvidia

[plasma-systemmonitor] [Bug 440433] New: Legend truncation rules are backwards

2021-07-30 Thread Syfer Polski

Bug ID: 440433
Summary: Legend truncation rules are backwards
   Product: plasma-systemmonitor
   Version: 5.22.3
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: ksysguard-b...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 140417
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=140417=edit
Screenshot of issue

SUMMARY
When multiple items are being compared and the space to display the legend is
limited, the truncation should be to the most generic element, ie. Ram, Swap,
GPU1, GPU2, instead of the most specific element(Used). This is because the
same property of most items is far more likely to be displayed together,
whether it's to compare the frequencies of different CPU cores or memory usage
of different components.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have two GPUs and some swap
2. Add the used RAM measurement of both GPUs to the memory row of the History
tab
3. Observe the legend

OBSERVED RESULT
Legend will be(see attached screenshot):
"Used X.Y GiB Used Z.A GiB Used B.C GiB Used D.E GiB"

EXPECTED RESULT
"Ram X.Y GiB Swap Z.A GiB GPU1 B.C GiB GPU2 D.E GiB"

[systemsettings] [Bug 420928] New: SystemSettings don't expose page size

2020-05-02 Thread Syfer Polski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420928

Bug ID: 420928
Summary: SystemSettings don't expose page size
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.16.5
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_formats
  Assignee: se...@kde.org
  Reporter: syfe...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The format settings in SystemSettings should expose a setting to change the
preferred page format. Currently people who have set all their formats to use
metric find themselves with typesetting programs such as LibreOffice producing
"letter" formatted documents instead of A4 that's standard around the world.
Changing the format requires writing a value to /etc/papersize, but the
discoverability of this option is quite low. The discoverability of this
setting in SystemSettings will be much higher and thus it should be exposed
here. The minimum two options should be "letter" and "A4".

Setting the region to anything except USA and Canada should set this value to
A4 as well.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open SystemSettings
2. Go to Regional Settings
3. Go to formats

OBSERVED RESULT
There is no option to change the paper size.

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be an option to change the paper size

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 19.10
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.62.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
According to https://linux.die.net/man/5/papersize, valid values include a3,
a4, a5, b5, letter, legal,executive, note and 11x17.

That's odd. I'm assuming you tried the linked ePub and not just any ePub? Cause
all other ePubs I've tried work just fine.

I'll update from Disco Dingo to Eoan Eremine in a few days and see if that
fixes it, as it should update KDE applications from 18.10 to 19.04.

PS. Sorry for the slow answer, the notification ended up in spam... I've

Would it be possible to add a manually selectable parser for the DD/MM/
format? HSBC's midata contains the date in this format and trying to import it
into Skrooge results in a "Date format not supported" error.

I can provide an example file if that would help. The headers are present, but
don't specify the data formats, and the list of transactions is followed by an
empty line and an arranged overdraft:

 Date,Type,Merchant/Description,Debit/Credit,Balance

Arranged overdraft limit,28/09/2019,+£0.00

[plasmashell] [Bug 409172] A few minutes after launching War Thunder's launcher, the bottom panel freezes

To make matters more interesting, when the WarThunder launcher or the game
itself are started again, the panel not only freezes again, but the
applications displayed on it are exactly the same as in the first freeze after
booting.

This is starting to look like plasmashell looses an OpenGL context and isn't
able to get it back until the application that "stole" it exits.

[plasmashell] [Bug 409172] New: A few minutes after launching War Thunder's launcher, the bottom panel freezes

2019-06-25 Thread Syfer Polski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409172

Bug ID: 409172
Summary: A few minutes after launching War Thunder's launcher,
the bottom panel freezes
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.15.4
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: syfe...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 121127
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=121127=edit
Screenshot showing the frozen bottom panel. It shows the wrong time(should be
12:27) and wrong applications

SUMMARY
A few minutes after launching War Thunder's launcher, the bottom panel freezes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install War Thunder - I have it installed directly, and not through Steam,
which might be relevant (https://warthunder.com/download/launcherLinux/)
2. Launch WarThunder's launcher (launcher in the installation directory)
3. Leave it running and use a different application - do not start the game
4. Notice the clock has stopped moving

OBSERVED RESULT
1. The list of applications on the bottom of the screen(I think that's what the
Task Manager is) will stop matching the list of actually open application
visible on the Alt+Tab window switch preview. For example, Steam has actually
been closed and KInfoCenter opened, and the TaskManager doesn't reflect that.
2. The clock will stop moving.
3. Applets will be shown despite actually being hidden - on the screenshot, I
have an update notification after having applied the update

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be no Task Manager freezes caused by running an application.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 19.04
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.56.0
Qt Version: 5.12.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm using an Nvidia GPU with the proprietary driver. I've not yet verified if
the issue can be replicated after this Optimus laptop is switched to Intel
mode.

I would be happy to run some tracing problem to figure out what is really going
on - this issue takes 5-15 minutes to show up but seems to be 100% replicable.

I'm using the default OpenGL 2.0 rendering backend for Plasma. I've not yet
verified if switching to the OpenGL 3.1 backend would help.

My KDE Neon instance degenerated further and won't launch nvidia-settings
anymore(I don't know when that occured as I just stuck to the intel GPU for
months before and used the Nvidia GPU in a separate OS). I don't think Dolphin
is the culprit here

I've ran into this today. You can clearly see the missaligned top part of the
letters in the menu My version of the application is:
Application: systemsettings5 (5.12.4)
Qt Version: 5.9.3
Frameworks Version: 5.45.0
Operating System: Linux 4.13.0-38-generic x86_64
Distribution: KDE neon LTS User Edition 5.12

After trying to search for a built in report button, the application crashed.
The bug reporter claimed that my crash report isn't useful, but I searched for
the fonts bug and came here.

I was using Noto Sans 15 or 14 for my fonts. Changing the fonts to Ubuntu of
the same size didn't alter system settings and the behaviour persisted.

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
I was moving files from my Downloads folder (ext4 partition mountes as /) to my
Documents/Documents folder (NTFS partition mounted on /mnt/data and symlinked)
Importantly, moving the file worked!

This happens regularily(~50% of the time when I move files into the NTFS
partition), but until now the backtrace never worked so I wasn't sure how to
report it with enough detail... and the moving worked, so Discover crashing was
annoying but not a big deal.

installation, and I installed version 5.8)

[neon] [Bug 390825] cgcicon.knsrc: Invalid cgcicon backend

2018-02-24 Thread Syfer Polski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390825

--- Comment #2 from Syfer Polski <syfe...@gmail.com> ---
I'm sorry to report that this didn't really work - it removed the error, but
did nothing to shorten the time taken to search for updates.

When Discover failed to inform me of any updates for two days after I removed
the "/etc/xdg/cgcicon.knsrc" file, I assumed there was something wrong. When I
manually launched Discover, it didn't finish searching for updates within 60s.
I decided to close discover and manually ran "sudo apt update".

This finished in seconds and Discover displayed that there were packages to
upgrade. Updating via Discover worked at it's usual atrocious pace afterwards,
until all packages were updated. This brought me to the "Fetching updates"
screen, where Discover would remain till this day, had I not closed it.

Therefore I'm forced to conclude that removing "/etc/xdg/cgcicon.knsrc" makes
things worse and should not become the norm.

PS. In case it helps:
I have 32 package repositories enabled, a few snaps and no flatpaks on my KDE
Neon userlts edition installation. I presume the xdg relates to Flatpak, as it
used to be called xdg-app.

Upon launching the updater in Discover, I'm presented with the following
message:
cgcicon.konf: Invalid cgcicon backend, contact your distributor. Since I'm
using KDE Neon, I assume this is the place to contact my distributor. I've
attached a screenshot of the issue.

I started getting that message after kdeneon-user-lts edition updated to Plasma
5.12. At first it wouldn't do much except slow the already dreadfully slow
Discover updates even further, but now it makes updating through Discover
impossible and I have to use apt through CLI.

The first configuration error I can think of is the unset LC_ALL that apt
complains about every update. The other one is the fact that SDDM doesn't work
for me and I log in via switching to a console and run startx afterwards.

KDE Neon userlts currently includes Discover 5.8.8, so a generation update
might be the way to fix it.

It's happened with every update to KDE partition manager I received. I've last
seen this bug a month ago, but I can't confirm it's gone until KDE partition
manager gets updated again. I'll update the bug when the next update to KDE
partition manager happens.

Is it possible this happened because I use apt from the bash instead when I'm
in a hurry? Discover is always slow.

[Powerdevil] [Bug 383606] New: Low power mode settings used regardless of actual charge

2017-08-16 Thread Syfer Polski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=383606

Bug ID: 383606
Summary: Low power mode settings used regardless of actual
charge
   Product: Powerdevil
   Version: 5.8.7
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: syfe...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

A new Neon installation(9 days) on a Dell Inspiron 7567 Gaming only uses power
settings from the "low power" tab of the power manager. The battery has been
detected(it shows charge %, health information and even the serial number) but
the system doesn't act upon this information.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Charge the battery above what you set as the "low power" threshold in System
Settings > Power Management > Advanced Settings.
Note: I did not change this setting from 5% for critical level and 10% for
low power
2. Set different "Dim screen" times in the "On battery" and "On low battery"
tabs of Power Management in the System Settings Module.
3. Stop touching the screen and look at a clock until the screen dims.

Actual results
The time set for low power is used regardless of the charge

Expected Results
"On battery" time is used

Platform information
KDE Neon, installed as 20170808, updated on the 15th of August by 'sudo apt
update' and installing the update in Discover

Additional Information
I've not changed ACPI settings from the default(Intel RAID if memory serves) to
pure ACPI in the BIOS.

[neon] [Bug 383306] New: GRUB2 fails to install on UEFI systems

2017-08-09 Thread Syfer Polski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=383306

Bug ID: 383306
Summary: GRUB2 fails to install on UEFI systems
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Live/Install images
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: syfe...@gmail.com
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Current(8.08.17) Neon installation ISOs(both the userlts and user editions)
fail to install GRUB on UEFI systems. This is due to the lack of a
/usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi folder containing the appropriate configuration.

I believe this is because someone tried to get rid on an earlier bug(can't find
a link now, sorry), thanks to which grub was misconfigured and installed
partially to /efi/ubuntu and partially to /efi/neon. Now it doesn't install at
all.

The installation from Calmares fails to install with a "failed to install to
/target/" message. I tracked this bug by trying to do a chroot install, as per
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing#via_ChRoot which revealed a
message saying "grub-install: error: /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/modinfo.sh
doesn't exist". Closer examination revealed that the whole folder was missing.
