i tried that yesterday already but now it is working again after a system
reboot. sorry i didn't think of that. it didn't cross my mind that it could
make a difference if all other applications had no problem. thanks for the
help. i think this can be closed.

[konsole] [Bug 473655] New: global menu is missing.

2023-08-22 Thread elypter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473655

Bug ID: 473655
   Summary: global menu is missing.
Classification: Applications
   Product: konsole
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: elyp...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
when updating to the git version to 23.11.70 to get the new notifcation
features i noticed that the global menu is gone. i set up my desktop to show
the menu in the title bar or in the top panel when the window is maximized. now
i only get a hamburger menu and couldnt find a way to get the menu back. i dont
know if this is just an issue connected to global menus or if the menu bar has
gone missing completely/replaced by a hamburger menu. anyway it is very
inconvenient and annoying. i hope this isnt intentional. i specifically
installed a patched verison of firefox to get a global menu on most
applications i frequently use. it would be a shame if other applications like
konsole now intentionally break these kinds of setups.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. install konsole-git
2. look for menu

i dont know where to find the setting but the desktop points to
/Schreibtisch which is the usual place when the distro is set to
german. creating files works and you can even drag and drop from the control
bar without using modifier keys. this opens a menu and if you select shotrtcut
or copy it works just fine.

i just found out that you can launch text based applications in a terminal by
pressing shift+enter from this report
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437131

this should be the default behavior. most of the time you want to see a result
or make sure something executed properly. its a way more common use case and
should be triggered simply by hitting enter.

it would be great if that behavior was switched or if there was a settings page
where you can change it.

alternatively it could be closable by a 2 finger swipe to the left on a
touchpad which is treated as a left scroll. it already closes on swiping left
on a touchscreen like on android. swiping right could pin it, save it for later
or perform an action. alternatively a double click could be used to close as
well. the middle click could be used for alternative actions. notifications
with 2 or more options could use swiping left or right for the major 2 options
and indicate that possibility with arrows on the buttons

With Discover now it shows up. It wasn't installed by default on EndeavourOS.
Maybe the feedback page should show those points greyed out just so people know
what's going on and a little footnote telling you to install Discover. right
now it looks like an oversight or misplaced information. users might also be
upset if they install Discover after opting in for feedback and later find out
that more data was sent than they originally anticipated.

[plasmashell] [Bug 444734] New: Move the functionality of Active Window Control into Task Manager

2021-10-31 Thread elypter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444734

Bug ID: 444734
Summary: Move the functionality of Active Window Control into
Task Manager
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: h...@kde.org
  Reporter: elyp...@yahoo.de
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Active window control allows to save on vertical screen real estate by hiding
the titlebar and moving its content into the control bar. While this works
decently well this means the active window will always be displayed twice. once
in the task manager and once with active window control. this will never look
cohesive, is a little confusing and it wastes space.

The only way to solve this would be to combine the 2 components. When
maximizing a window its title bar content would be displayed in place of the
application tab in the task manager. The space would be scaled to fit the title
and the window decorations. optimally this would be rendered in the system set
window decoration style and add tab visual cues that connect the title entry
with the maximized window below.

There used to be a netbook mode for mate and there is active window control for
kde but none of them was ever a cohesive experience. this would be a great way
to set kde apart from other desktops on small screens by using space
efficiently and elegantly. especially landscape devices like the steam deck and
small laptops could profit from that.
