[kde-freebsd] dbus-qt4 dependency on qt4-gui

2011-08-29 Thread John Prather
FreeBSD KDE crew,

Seems devel/dbus-qt4/ was mistakenly given the dependency of the gui
component of qt.

This of course causes havoc when trying to use dbus-qt4 on a server,
as it brings in a good deal of X11 packages that should not be needed
on a server.

I would have submitted a fix patch but I'm not sure that simply
removing gui from the required components for the port won't cause
something else which requires gui but doesn't specify it as a
dependency to break. So I figured it wisest to leave the solution in
the hands of those who know QT like the back of their hands.

Thanks!

not a mistake. qdbusviewer depends on qt4-gui

luckily the solution looks really easy: splitting qdbusviewer out of dbus-
qt4 and adding it as an optional dependency. to respect POLA the
option should be on by default... does it sound reasonable to you?

- Add dependency on net/ilbc (audio codec for GoogleTalk voice calls).

i am slow, but in the end i got it. qdbusviewer is already split, so it's
actually as simple as you proposed. testing the patch right now

the qt4 options framework hasn't changed since years. i suspect you
had that set in the past, or you had installed qt4 via packages (they
install cups support by default)

i'd like to replace QT4_OPTIONS with normal OPTIONS: that would make
easier for users to choose if they want it. unfortunately it is not a trivial
task, and i had yet no time to look into it. i know the solution, it's just a
problem of time. maybe i'll try to find some when porting qt 4.8. how
would you consider a CUPS option in qt4-gui port?

and please, could you post a link to this thread on the forums, so that

It's certainly possible I'd set that before a couple years ago and forgot
about it when doing the new install. Some faint mist of memory is perhaps
haunting me in this regard.

Anyways it's still kind of awkward and I think OPTIONS covering it would be
good. Some sort of note about it on the wiki and/or Handbook may also be
helpful. I will post a link, thanks for response and work.

[kde-freebsd] [SVN Commit] area51/PORTS/databases/akonadi

2011-08-29 Thread Alberto Villa
SVN commit 7479 by avilla:

- Add dependency on qt4-gui.
- Make SQLite dependency optional (disabled by default), as it's not
  used anymore by KDE.
- Add option to install PostgreSQL Qt driver (the server is up to the

- Add bits for a MySQL option. This will probably never be completed,
unless the SQLite driver is resurrected. (based on [1])
- Bump PORTREVISION.

kde 4.7 and, i think, 4.6 do not support the akonadi sqlite plugin

I think requiring a full-blown mysql server for each desktop user is a
bit too much for the stuff that akonadi does (mostly caching, if I
understand correctly), so I was very happy that I could enable the
  sqlite backend in the port.

 that is not possible anymore

Even if sqlite is really dead in the upcoming releases, I'd still

well. Only `cmake` command works correctly.

optional

 Hi,

What does at the moment mean? The current port (akonadi-1.6.0)
seems to support sqlite just fine.
I think requiring a full-blown mysql server for each desktop user is a
bit too much for the stuff that akonadi does (mostly caching, if I
understand correctly), so I was very happy that I could enable the
 sqlite backend in the port.

Even if sqlite is really dead in the upcoming releases, I'd still
prefer an optional (embedded) mysql in the port, as personally I'd
rather configure a separate postgres instance than running mysql
 (personal preference, I know).

 cheers,
 mitch

consider that i'm adding optional pgsql support, but it cannot be
considered as a safe alternative given that it requires an external serve=
 r
  to be run

Remove hack introduced with CMake 2.8.1.

There was no explanation about why it was required, and the current
CMake version seems to build fine without it.
