[kontact] [Bug 470711] New: Cannot resize contact editor window

2023-06-06 Thread Christopher Yeleighton

Bug ID: 470711
Summary: Cannot resize contact editor window
Classification: Applications
   Product: kontact
   Version: 5.17.1
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: contacts
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Contact editor window adapts to content by growing vertically. It grows so big
that the bottom is off screen and the buttons cannot be reached. The editor
window cannot be resized.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add 17 Web addresses to a contact (or as many as needed, depending on
display settings).

OBSERVED RESULT
The contact editor window is longer than the screen height; the buttons are off
screen and inaccessible.

EXPECTED RESULT
The Web addresses of the contact get an internal scroll bar.

SUMMARY
When you add an untrimmed URL to a contact, it gets dropped.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a new Web site
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
to a contact (with a leading space)!
2. Tell the contact to save!

OBSERVED RESULT
The contact does not have a Web site.

EXPECTED RESULT
Let the contact have the Web site (without leading spaces)!

Yes, and the country name provided in the address book viewer is provided by
KDE. We cannot expect Qt to provide a localised country name, that is why we
implement the support for localised country names in our framework. As much as
I would like upstream to provide a localised country name, I do not think we
should expect it to happen. We have already acknowledged that in that we
created our own class to provide the required functionality.

[kontact] [Bug 465628] New: Country names in address editor are in English

2023-02-12 Thread Christopher Yeleighton
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465628

Bug ID: 465628
Summary: Country names in address editor are in English
Classification: Applications
   Product: kontact
   Version: 5.17.1
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: contacts
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: giecr...@stegny.2a.pl
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Country names in the address editor are in English. Country names in the
address viewer are in Polish.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Tell Kontact to create a new contact!
2. Tell the new contact to add a new address!
3. Select a country!

OBSERVED RESULT
The countries are in English.

EXPECTED RESULT
Let the countries be in Polish!

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20230210
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.102.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The country list has been populated using raw QLocale::countryToString which
returns English names. It has then been sorted using
QString::localeAwareCompare, i.e. using Polish locale. The result of sorting
English names in Polish locale is acceptable but the process seems fishy.
The country name displayed in the contact view pane is provided by KCountry.
There is no proof that Qt itself should be responsible for providing a
localised country name.

Status: REPORTED

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
E-mail addresses of people are harder and harder to get and the avalanche of
spam makes e-mail so inefficient as a communications medium that many people
prefer using various communicators (where people must be admitted to be allowed
to talk) instead. Of course, there were e-mail services with admission
too---one notable was Bluebottle, long bankrupt though.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add an attendee without an e-mail address to an appointment!
2. Save the appointment!
3. Open the appointment!

OBSERVED RESULT
The attendee is not listed.

EXPECTED RESULT
The attendee should be there.

2. Display that calendar only!
3. Go to the event in the calendar!

OBSERVED RESULT
No way.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should be possible to tell KOrganizer to go to the previous/next event.

2021-09-12 Thread Christopher Yeleighton
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442327

Bug ID: 442327
Summary: Bug reporter should allow reporting component bugs
   Product: kontact
   Version: 5.18.1
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: giecr...@stegny.2a.pl
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The bug reporter in Kontact should allow me to report a bug against the
currently active component.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Tell Kontact to open the Organizer!
2. Tell Kontact to report a bug!

OBSERVED RESULT
Kontact offers to report a bug against itself.

EXPECTED RESULT
Let Kontact offers to report a bug against the KOrganizer!
(IMHO, best achieved by adding another Help menu item)

SUMMARY
The Item Viewer sidebar component shows details of the currently selected
events. These events need not be visible in the Agenda view because navigating
away from the selection does not clear it. Please add a link to the event date
to navigate the Agenda view to the event date.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select an event.

OBSERVED RESULT
The event date in the Item View is not a link.

EXPECTED RESULT
Let the event date in the Item View be a link.

It is now impossible to create such a container from within KMail but:
 1. The container I created back in 2011 still exists.
 2. KMail does not let me subscribe to it.
 3. Accordingly, there is no way to delete it.
 4. However, it is not possible to create a folder of the same name.

All in all, my user experience is crippled.

[kmail2] [Bug 328780] New: KMail2 stops responding in Nepomuk2::MainModel::executeQuery

2013-12-13 Thread Christopher Yeleighton
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=328780

Bug ID: 328780
   Summary: KMail2 stops responding in
Nepomuk2::MainModel::executeQuery
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.11.3
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: message list
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: giecr...@stegny.2a.pl

It seems that Nepomuk2::MainModel::executeQuery is a blocking IPC call issued
in the GUI thread.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Hover over an IMAP message.

Actual Results:
  1.
Kontact stops responding (it seems that Nepomuk2::MainModel::executeQuery is a
blocking IPC call issued in the GUI thread), virtuoso-t eats 90% CPU.

Expected Results:
  1. Let Kontact display message summary.

I surely do not know why virtuoso-t runs forever or how to stop it or whether
stopping it will unfreeze KMail2; it seems that KMail2 should take this
possibility into account.

[kmail2] [Bug 328780] KMail2 stops responding in Nepomuk2::MainModel::executeQuery

2013-12-13 Thread Christopher Yeleighton
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=328780

--- Comment #1 from Christopher Yeleighton giecr...@stegny.2a.pl ---
KMail2 eventually recovered, I am not sure whether because I used isql-vt to
inquire the status of virtuoso server or because virtuoso recovered by itself.
However, the bug is still valid because the assumption that virtuoso will
respond instantly turns out to be wrong.
