[Akonadi] [Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682 --- Comment #236 from Peter Humphrey --- I think the real problem in KMail is in the handling of locally stored emails. Since I installed a local server to fetch POP3 mails from my ISP and serve them to KMail as IMAP4, the problem has largely gone away. The problem was still present at in interim stage when I was downloading all mails from my IMAP4 server, but now that I leave them on the server I don't see the problem any more. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Akonadi] [Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682 --- Comment #233 from Peter Humphrey --- New symptom. I have a local server that fetches POP3 mail from my ISP and serves it as IMAP4. I've had only rare duplicates since setting this arrangement up a few years ago. I discovered yesterday that creating a KMail POP3 account led immediately to numerous duplicates, as half-expected, but the key point here is that duplicates kept occurring, even after I'd deleted the POP3 account and rebooted. This is KMail version 5.20.3 (22.04.3) on Gentoo stable, Plasma version 5.24.6-r1. I tried postgres several years ago but it didn't improve anything, so I'm sticking with mariadb. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393421 --- Comment #60 from Peter Humphrey --- (In reply to Martin Steigerwald from comment #59) > KMail has clickable links also in plain text view. In HTML however > the link can go to an entirely different location than what the user gets to > see, while in plain text it cannot. Thus there is a valid security concern. Ah, well in that case, maybe you've just shown the route to a solution: make sure that both views show the same, real value of the link. I can see there may be complications in doing that (different display engines being used) but this seems to be where the insecurity comes from - not from the user, who's unlikely to understand that the black bar is trying to warn him of the distinction you've drawn: what it says is nothing like what it seems to mean. I didn't see it anyway, in spite of having been using the Internet for a bit longer than five minutes. :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393421 --- Comment #58 from Peter Humphrey --- (In reply to Christoph Feck from comment #55) > It is a security reason. If you have no way to see that the message is actually an HTML > message, i.e. _outside_ the message viewer, you could click those links > without being aware that they link to sites that you don't see in the text. This is completely spurious. If you click on a link, you know it's a link. If it's a link it must be in HTML. You don't need an ugly great splodge to tell you it's HTML. If you think there are people who can't see this, let them keep the warning. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348491 --- Comment #6 from Peter Humphrey <pe...@prh.myzen.co.uk> --- Hello Martin, Thanks for your reply - with its long list of questions! 0. First, I don't have any other PIM components installed than KMail - could all these errors be caused by not having a more complete set of programs? My machine runs Gentoo stable. It has two 1TB SSDs (Crucial) arranged in RAID-1 using mdadm, and all my user stuff is in /dev/md7 (ext4) which is on /dev/sd[ab]7. I've just rebooted without another MySQL instance running and with a clean .xsession-errors. 1. I was having various problems with KMail at the time, which were fixed temporarily by archiving all my mails, creating a new user, importing the mails and thus starting again. I mentioned the new user to show that I was starting with a clean slate. 2. I did have MySQL starting at boot time as a general service. I've discontinued that now to avoid red herrings here. 3. I've run fsck many times, and I'm sure the file-systems are as clean as I can get them. 4. See attached files. 5. akonadiserver.error and akonadi_control.error don't exist here. 6. MySQL has been at version 5.6.27 ever since it became available in Gentoo stable. This is the history of akonadi. My record only goes back to June, as you see: $ genlop akonadi-server * app-office/akonadi-server Mon Jun 29 15:45:10 2015 >>> app-office/akonadi-server-1.13.0 Fri Aug 7 09:08:25 2015 >>> app-office/akonadi-server-1.13.0-r1 Sun Oct 25 08:56:49 2015 >>> app-office/akonadi-server-1.13.0-r2 No higher versions are available in Gentoo. I've built a separate, experimental KDE system using Qt-5 and the Gentoo plasma profile and kde overlay. Do you want me to do some more testing in that system? It still has the same version of akonadi-server though. I could install the whole of KDE-PIM in that system in a few days' time, once the overlay is consistent again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

KMail is still at the same version, but the supporting programs are newer than they were (or new to the system). Since I made this change a few days ago I've had no duplicates at all. It's difficult to know which (now superseded) program had the bug in it because I'd have to uninstall the whole of KDE-Pim and install it again a few programs at a time. I could do that if necessary. I've found it necessary for KMail to be installed after all the other PIM programs; when I do that I also get my trash folder renamed to wastebin (thank you, translation team!). For info, these are the packages that kdepim-meta pulls in: akonadiconsole, akregator, blogilo, calendarjanitor, kabcclient, kaddressbook, kalarm, kdepim-icons, kdepim-kresources, kdepim-runtime, kjots, kleopatra, kmail, knode, knotes, konsolekalendar, kontact, korganizer, ktimetracker, ktnef, kde4-l10n, kdepim-l10n. [kmail2] [Bug 346695] New: KMail2 generates duplicates of e-mails
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346695 Bug ID: 346695 Summary: KMail2 generates duplicates of e-mails Product: kmail2 Version: 4.14.3 Platform: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: misc Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: pe...@prh.myzen.co.uk This is a simple KMail instance with two POP3 accounts - no PIM, no IMAP, no local maildir. Several times a day I find a duplicate pair of new e-mails in the message list. The first displayed has a small greenish icon, the second doesn't. This is a minor inconvenience (though annoying since it's been happening since the first version of KMail2), as I can delete either of the pair, but in the last two days the pitch has stepped up. One e-mail, the last in a newly subscribed-to mailman list, is being replicated at random intervals. So far I've deleted 50 copies. Actually, only 50 show in the trash, but I've seen at least 20 more than that in the count of new messages in the folder list. [kmail2] [Bug 341426] Change default to Yes for Keep replies in this folder
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341426 --- Comment #5 from Peter Humphrey pe...@prh.myzen.co.uk --- (In reply to Laurent Montel in comment #4) If you think that you are better send patch and co no ? I've been retired for 16 years, but before that I was personally responsible for the whole of the software development and maintenance cycle on a 17-mainframe system distributed over five sites with dual-redundant HDLC links, scores of thousands of real-time inputs, 10 programming languages, user construction of complex engineering displays, ... (I needen't go on). I don't impugn the competence of anybody in particular, but it cannot be denied that any software development system must be broken if it allows the release of fiascos like the first few versions of KDE-4, and in particular KMail-2, which destroyed e-mail collections around the world and drove many previously happy users to find other ways of managing e-mail. If anything remotely resembling such humiliations as those had happened on my watch, the consequences for all those involved - and for electricity supply in the UK - would have been dire. I don't wish to blame any one person, as I said, but some quality control is needed, together with a quality management system (see ISO-9001). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

I was only asking for a change in a default setting, which would not have affected anyone's existing setup.
