[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1502531] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4002dx (ENERGY STAR)] suspend/resume failure

2015-12-24 Thread Stephen
The janitor closed this a few days ago, but with holiday break rolling
around I was finally able to test this on my HP Spectre x360 (please let
me know if a new bug should be opened rather than continuing this one).

I downloaded the debs for mainline kernel v4.4-rc6-wily, and the problem
is fixed upstream. I've attempted to modify the tags as requested. For
now I'll continue running the mainline kernel, but I look forward to
being able to shift back to the supported Ubuntu kernels.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1527740] Re: Touchpad intermittently stops working

2015-12-24 Thread D Fine
Hi
Updated BIOS per Christopher's request:

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
G6ETB2WW (2.72 )
10/08/2015

Issue is still reproducible.

Title:
  Touchpad intermittently stops working

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Touchpad intermittently stops working on lenovo carbon x1 (gen1)

If I close the lid, or sometimes disable and then re-enable touchpad
in BIOS, it may sometimes come back. Sometimes running the software
updater seems to fix or break it, but this may be incidental

also perhaps incidental, im using virtualbox alot, and thats really
the only thing new in my workflow.

when it doesn't work, xinput list sometimes does not show the device.
Once it shows, i can see properties in system settings -> mouse and
touchpad', but that doesn't necessarily mean the touchpad is going to
  come alive.

If it does start to work, it often works across several reboots.

i've attached some additional files in a tarball:
-- beforeaAndAfterLidClose -- this was a run of cat
/proc/bus/input/devices before and after closing lid ... note that after
closing and reopening, the TouchPad shows up.
  -- dmesg
-- devices: a full '/cat/proc/bus/devices', obtained after the touchpad
reappeared, which will show the vendor information
  -- Xorg.0.log

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1492764] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0)

2015-12-24 Thread Rajat Pandita
I am having to go back to 14.04 now. I was really hoping that this would
get fixed soon. I think this might have its presence in the 16.04 Cycle
as well. Consequently many people like myself would have to stay on
14..04 !

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1527740] Re: Touchpad intermittently stops working

2015-12-24 Thread D Fine
im going to change the status to incomplete pending one more replication

I had restarted the machine during the BIOS flash as per the utils
request, and then ubuntu 14.04 came back up there was no mouse.

I did my little dance of closing the lid and waiting for a while, which
was not working for about 3 hrs straight yesterday, and it immediately
started to work after first try

I want to see this issue happen at lest once again on a completely fresh
boot before marking it confirmed again in order to not waste anyone's
time.

Thanks for everyone's help so far!

Cheers

_d

  Touchpad intermittently stops working

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

[Fujitsu Lifebook AH532] UEFI firmware locks itself after installing
  Ubuntu in UEFI mode

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 12.10
  Release: 12.10

  apt-cache policy grub-efi-amd64
  grub-efi-amd64:
Installed: 2.00-7ubuntu11
Candidate: 2.00-7ubuntu11

Pheonix Secure Core Tiano bios version 1.09

New laptop Fujitsu Lifebook AH532. Windows 7 preinstalled. All
functions worked normally when running Win7. Ubuntu 12.10 installed
using whole disk. Installation successful Ubuntu boots and runs
normally, however all access to the bios has now been lost. Pressing
the default key (f2) during boot up is acknowledged by bios beep, but
ignored and Ubuntu continues booting. In addition the 'boot choices'
menu (f12) contains nothing but Ubuntu making it impossible to boot
  from USB or CD/DVD.

The latter (f12) problem was overcome by opening up the machine,
removing the ram and shorting the cl1/cl2 posts with a screwdriver.
This restores the ability to boot from USB/CD by pressing f12 but does
  not restore bios access.

The following recovery actions have been tried.
  1) Install Boot-Repair, run repair, no change occurred. Boot repair report
here:
  http://paste.ubuntu.com/1375041/

  2) Restore Windows from Clonezilla disk image (factory settings) -
result - bios access is no longer possible from windows either, f2 now
  launches the Windows boot menu.

  3) Update all drivers using Fujitsu driver update tool from within
windows (which included a bios update). Result - no change, no bios.

  4) Restored Ubuntu from Clonezilla disk image - no change.

  5) Added second distro to disk. Installed successfully (uefi mode as
that is all I have) no change to bios access.

So overall result I have lost all bios access even from a reinstalled
Windows. I repeat that bios access was perfectly normal before
  installing Ubuntu.

I strongly suggest you read the contents of this thread in addition to
  the information here:

Downgraded to 3.13.0-74 did not work out because hit by another

NUC NUC5CPYH Does not boot on Ubuntu 15.10 (linux-image-4.2.0-19)

Bug description:
I have an Intel NUC NUC5CPYH. This is the unit:
  http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-kit-nuc5cpyh.html

It boots beautifully on Ubuntu 15.04 and Ubuntu 15.10 with linux-
image-3.19.0-34-generic -- but when I try to boot with linux-
image-4.2.0-19-generic I simply see the following:

  https://www.dropbox.com/s/y2c9i87kafvwsq1/IMG_1476.jpg?dl=0

The keyboard stops responding after this line: systemd[1]: Started
  udev Kernel Device Manager.

Here is output from lspci -vnvn < http://pastie.org/10596250 - I am
running headless, so there is no Xorg (or any other X server)
  installed.

  - I tried adding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset" (also: noacpi noapic)
  - I tried disabling devices in the bios like audio
  - Tried selecting "Ubuntu, with Linux 4.2.0-19-generic (recovery mode)" from
the list, it does not boot into the recovery console either :(
  - I tried installing a clean 15.10 version on a blank hard drive (with
debootstrap so latest packages)

I am able to boot if I add systemd.unit=emergency.target to the kernel
line. I can run "systemctl start networking" for example and it works,
but if I run "systemctl start apport" (or ssh even) - I see this and
  the system freezes:

I am not sure how to troubleshoot further. When I reboot and select
Kernel 3.19, there is nothing in /var/log/syslog or journalctl from
  the failed boot :(

  Any suggestions?

  - EDIT: It seems downgrading from the latest PY0044 BIOS version to
PY0043 allows me to boot the system, but it freezes if running
"reboot" - more details in this bug report:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1522201] Re: NUC NUC5CPYH Does not reboot on Ubuntu 15.10 (linux-image-4.2.0-19)

How many people do you want to run ubuntu-bug linux? - I already ran it
in the original bug report.

Title:
NUC NUC5CPYH Does not reboot on Ubuntu 15.10 (linux-image-4.2.0-19)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have an Intel NUC NUC5CPYH. This is the unit:
  http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-kit-nuc5cpyh.html

It boots and reboots beautifully on Ubuntu 15.04 and Ubuntu 15.10 with
linux-image-3.19.0-34-generic -- but when I try to boot with linux-
image-4.2.0-19-generic on the latest PY0044 BIOS version, it freezes
on boot almost every time, reported bug here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1521749

If I downgrade the BIOS to PY0043, it boots most of the time, but when
I run "reboot" it freezes almost every single time. This is what I see
on the screen when it freezes:

  https://www.dropbox.com/s/fxy4opcqwnmjmwo/IMG_1489.jpg?dl=0

I am also attaching the full syslog, dmesg and the relevant part of
the syslog when the system froze.

I tried to boot with acpi_osi="Windows 2013" as well as Windows 2015
and Windows 2009, that did not seem to make any difference.

  Any ideas?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1529161] [NEW] Enhancing the output on removing modules

2015-12-24 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 dev with dkms 2.2.0.3-2ubuntu8 and on upgrading
VirtualBox which caused the modules to be removed with DKMS I noticed
the following output:

--
Deleting module version: 5.0.10
completely from the DKMS tree.
--

There are 2 issues with the output:

- The colon seems to be wrong there with the following second line.
- If the version string is too long (as in this case) the line overflows the
dashes.

** Affects: dkms (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

does not exhibit this behaviour and is what this system is now running.

btrfs balance leads to kernel panic

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1014749] Re: can't read uvcvideo (usb video / webcams) devices

2015-12-24 Thread Ubuntu QA Website

Title:
can't read uvcvideo (usb video / webcams) devices

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Attempting to read /dev/video0 for USB video device gives:

libv4l2: error turning on stream: No space left on device

from the video4linux library, and the video4linux ioctl fail with e.g.

VIDIOC_STREAMON - Unable to start capture: Device or resource busy

I wrote a test program and find that "Control" ioctls such as
VIDIOC_G_FMT are successful: I can query the format which the camera
provides, so the "connection" with the camera seems OK.

Reading the frame, however seems impossible.

(cheese and guvcview are also unable to display an image, so it isn't
just my programming - and my program does work on a laptop which runs
NetBSD, so no ubuntu testing there)

  I tested the following cameras
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:09a1 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate MP/S5500
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0471:2038 Philips (or NXP)
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 041e:406d Creative Technology, Ltd

(I also tried with ubuntu 10.04)

Most similar bugs have been "solved" in the past by installing new kernels -
the above was tried with the most recent at the time of this report:
   3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 20:30:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

This computer has USB3 ports as well as USB2 ports - I have tried a
variety - apport should show the Logitech plugged into a USB2 port.

These cameras work on other compurters running 10.04 - if I had to
guess, this is the only computer I have with USB3 ports - so is it a
  USB controller driver issue?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1445664] Re: kernel 3.16 breaks POSIX extended ACLs over NFS

2015-12-24 Thread Nelson Elhage
I may or may not have time to do the bisect any time soon, but based on
some log-diving, I strongly suspect
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/013cdf1088d7235da9477a2375654921d9b9ba9f
or the related refactors of being the commit that introduced this
regression.

Title:
kernel 3.16 breaks POSIX extended ACLs over NFS

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a development environment that uses Vagrant with NFS shares to
a Trusty development VM from OS X laptops.

After the upgrade to the HWE kernel 3.16, installing Ruby gems into
the NFS mount inside the VM failed because of install(1) failing with
permission errors. Debugging revealed that it's trying to set POSIX
extended ACLs using setxattr(); On 3.13 this operation failed with
EOPNOTSUPP (the server does not support extended ACLs), but on 3.16 it
fails with EPERM, even if the NFS mount is explicitly mounted with
  "noacl".

Debugging with ftrace and source diving suggests that kernel 3.16
refactored the POSIX extended ACL code so that before the call even
hits the NFS layer, it passes through a generic permission-check
layer. It appears that that layer is not aware of NFS UID remapping,
and so fails the call regardless of what the server would have done.

  A simple test case is `install -c -m 0755 `, which will succeed on 3.13 and fail on 3.16.

  The broken system is:

  vagrant@packer-vmware-iso:~$ lsb_release -a; uname -a

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1526692] Re: Ubuntu 15.10 - btrfs - Kernel Panic on btrfs balance

2015-12-24 Thread David Miller
I was able to reproduce the issue with btrfs balance that I was running
into and got some of the tracebacks by sending syslog messages to
another server. However it appears that it may be a different issue.

I'll open up a new issue and attach my tracebacks there.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1528688] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-12-24 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From mauri...@br.ibm.com 2015-12-24 16:26 EDT---
Hold on with the patches.

Before proceeding, I'd like to understand this a bit more.
Apparently the QLE2500-based adapter can indeed come w/ Loop Up w/out the
ql2500_fw.bin file, despite complaining about not loading it.

So, there'll be a difference between installer and installed system.
I'll get back to this in early Jan.

Installer, without ql2500_fw.bin

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1470250] Re: [Hyper-V] Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Generation 2 SCSI Errors on VSS Based Backups

2015-12-24 Thread Michele Primavera
I honestly just went the easy way doing that:

while true; do
mount | grep "sda1 on / type ext4 (ro" > /dev/null
if (($? == 0)); then
fsck -y /dev/sda1
reboot
fi
sleep 60
done

not the best practice for sure, but...

This relates to the VSS "Windows Server Backup" process that kicks off at
midnight on the host and finishes an hour and half later.
Yes, we do have hv_vss_daemon and hv_kvp_daemon running for the correct
kernel version we have. We're currently running kernel version
3.13.0-49-generic #83 on one system and 3.16.0-34-generic #37 on the other. --
We see the same errors on both.
As a result, we've been hesitant to drop any more ubuntu guests on our 2012R2
hyper-v system because of this. We can stop the backup process and all is
good, but we need nightly backups to image all of our VM's. All the windows
guests have no issues of course. We also have some CentOS based guests
running without issues from what we've seen.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1528856] Re: bluetooth & car handsfree issue

2015-12-24 Thread Alexandre Payet
I've noticed similar problem on nexus 4 rc-proposed.

I've tried to describe it in this bug report #1524939

This could come from ofono package too (sometime it show x icons
speaker, sometimes the bluetooth speaker icon). Even with the bluetooth
speaker icon, it's doesn't work sometimes. For me I've to manually
disconnect and reconnect or more "forget" the bluetooth car system and
do a new connection to it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1470250] Re: [Hyper-V] Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Generation 2 SCSI Errors on VSS Based Backups

2015-12-24 Thread Dexuan Cui
My update:
It looks the issue is somehow related to the backup, but I tend to think there
is a bug somewhere in the storvsc driver code -- it's very hard to track it
down because before the ext4 read-only issue happens, the ext4 file system may
have been somewhat corrupted.

Warning! Received an indication that the operating parameters on this target
have changed. The Linux SCSI layer does not automatically adjust these
parameters.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1529049] [NEW] Switch bluetooth keyboard from qwerty to azerty

2015-12-24 Thread Alexandre Payet
Public bug reported:

Trying convergence, I've noticed that :

When a bluetooth keyboard is paired, the keyboard is by default in
Qwerty (even if it's an Azerty keyboard and the settings of UT are on
French Azerty keyboard layout)

We should have an option to set the Azerty / Qwerty option in bluetooth
settings.
Or a better solution could be that the bluetooth keyboard layout is set to the
default keyboard layout we have put in Language settings.

Does someone know a way to set correctly the layout of the bluetooth
keyboard ? (I've tried : 'loadkeys fr' in terminal but this didn't work,
I suspect that the default layout was already on fr but the bluetooth
keyboard doesn't detect it)

Device : mako rc-proposed last revision of 24 dec 2015

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1529077] Status changed to Confirmed

Title:
USB device resets since kernel version 3.13.0-73-generic #116-Ubuntu

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome desktop.

When running "goobox" (a cd-player application) the application hangs
for about 30 seconds before being initialized. During this one core of
the cpu is running at 100% utilization. The following lines appear
  then in the syslog:

  Dec 24 13:14:27 computer4 kernel: [ 1386.238349] usb 3-1: reset high-speed
USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
  Dec 24 13:14:27 computer4 kernel: [ 1386.293951] xhci_hcd :03:00.0: xHCI
xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep 880036272600
  Dec 24 13:14:27 computer4 kernel: [ 1386.293955] xhci_hcd :03:00.0: xHCI
xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep 880036272640

The CD drive is a external USB one connected to a USB 3.0 port:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0e8d:1806 MediaTek Inc. Samsung SE-208AB Slim
  Portable DVD Writer

This behaviour appeared with the kernel version 3.13.0-73-generic
#116-Ubuntu. Running "goobox" on the same system with kernel 3.13.0-71
does not exhibit this behaviour. Using the newest available kernel
  3.13.0-74 the problem persists.

Kernel, goobox and the other software are installed from official
  Ubuntu packages.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2015-12-24 Thread Leander Koornneef
I can also confirm this problem on Asus X555LAB.503, same as Pheppy
(#65). Brightness control does work from system settings and using
xbacklight works as well.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1529077] [NEW] USB device resets since kernel version 3.13.0-73-generic #116-Ubuntu

2015-12-24 Thread Markus Heinz
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome desktop.

When running "goobox" (a cd-player application) the application hangs
for about 30 seconds before being initialized. During this one core of
the cpu is running at 100% utilization. The following lines appear then
in the syslog:

Dec 24 13:14:27 computer4 kernel: [ 1386.238349] usb 3-1: reset high-speed USB
device number 2 using xhci_hcd
Dec 24 13:14:27 computer4 kernel: [ 1386.293951] xhci_hcd :03:00.0: xHCI
xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep 880036272600
Dec 24 13:14:27 computer4 kernel: [ 1386.293955] xhci_hcd :03:00.0: xHCI
xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep 880036272640

The CD drive is a external USB one connected to a USB 3.0 port:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0e8d:1806 MediaTek Inc. Samsung SE-208AB Slim
Portable DVD Writer

This behaviour appeared with the kernel version 3.13.0-73-generic
#116-Ubuntu. Running "goobox" on the same system with kernel 3.13.0-71
does not exhibit this behaviour. Using the newest available kernel
3.13.0-74 the problem persists.

Kernel, goobox and the other software are installed from official Ubuntu
packages.

X locks up periodically for a 2 to ten seconds at a time and this
crash log gets generated. It's significantly more than several times a
day but not quite continuous. If you indeed have this bug, that should
stop the lockups from happening. Irrespective, please file a new bug
report so your hardware may be tracked.

  WORKAROUND: Edit your /etc/default/grub from:
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

  to:
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.semaphores=0"

  run the following and reboot:
  sudo update-grub

The side effects of this is rendering throughput is dropped by 10%
with SNA, or as much as 3x with UXA. OpenGL performance is likely to
be reduced by about 30%. More CPU time is spent waiting for the GPU
with rc6 disabled, so increased power consumption.

phone connect fine. I can connect reliably to my mobile phone hotspot,
which is nearby the laptop. Windows 8.1 connects fine.

  Any ideas?

  https://www.dropbox.com/s/y2c9i87kafvwsq1/IMG_1476.jpg?dl=0

I am able to boot if I add systemd.unit=emergency.target to the kernel
line. I can run "systemctl start networking" for example and it works,
but if I run "systemctl start apport" (or ssh even) - I see this and
  the system freezes:

  https://www.dropbox.com/s/gmpse7bx0c70e4v/IMG_1479.jpg?dl=0

I am not sure how to troubleshoot further. When I reboot and select
Kernel 3.19, there is nothing in /var/log/syslog or journalctl from
  the failed boot :(

  Any suggestions?

  - EDIT: It seems downgrading from the latest PY0044 BIOS version to
PY0043 allows me to boot the system, but it freezes if running
"reboot" - more details in this bug report:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1445664] Re: kernel 3.16 breaks POSIX extended ACLs over NFS

2015-12-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Nelson Elhage, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.13
to 3.16 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited
analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
kernel 3.16 breaks POSIX extended ACLs over NFS
