when it stops to work I have to unplug the device and plug it in again. However there are still kernel messages. Maybe s it is useful if we can know what means the hid-generic status codes (-71) or a more detailed message explaining why can't reset the device or because it needs reset the device. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1255522] Re: [Acer Aspire 5943G] Slow copy transfer rates by bad USB 2.0 detection in external usb storage devices
Christopher, as far I can tell, I see this slow copy transfer rates since Raring at least, but I didn't know then why was the cause for that. Now it seems the bad detection of USB 2.0. But this could be failing since 2007 if you read the comments of bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/177235 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255522 Title: [Acer Aspire 5943G] Slow copy transfer rates by bad USB 2.0 detection in external usb storage devices Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Confirmed issue with slow transfer rates (<1.5 MB/s) for 3 different external USB 2.0 hardisk (toshiba 1 TB, SAMSUNG 512 GB, Hitachi 1 TB) with 3.12.0-4-generic from trusty. It is mainly a bad detection as USB 1.0 instead of USB 2.0 in dmesg (check_highspeed is indeed bogus). Copy 20 GB takes days, instead of hours for this issue. I commonly use mesa, but for some develoments I need some features in fglrx. But I switch back for test the kernel mainline with: sudo apt-get purge xorg-driver-fglrx fglrx-* sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core So, rebooting with v3.13-rc1-trusty the issue is still present. ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-v3.13-rc1-trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255522 Title: [Acer Aspire 5943G] Slow copy transfer rates by bad USB 2.0 detection in external usb storage devices Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Confirmed issue with slow transfer rates (<1.5 MB/s) for 3 different external USB 2.0 hardisk (toshiba 1 TB, SAMSUNG 512 GB, Hitachi 1 TB) with 3.12.0-4-generic from trusty. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1255522] [NEW] Slow copy transfer rates by bad USB 2.0 detection in external usb storage devices
Public bug reported: By recommendation of Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), I fill this bug in reference to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/177235 Extracted issue from comments of #177235: """Confirmed issue with slow transfer rates (<1.5 MB/s) for 3 different external USB 2.0 hardisk (toshiba 1 TB, SAMSUNG 512 GB, Hitachi 1 TB) with 3.12.0-4-generic from trusty. It is mainly a bad detection as USB 1.0 instead of USB 2.0 in dmesg (check_highspeed is indeed bogus). I try to test with kernel mainline v3.13-rc1-trusty but I cannot because I am affected by the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1254424 in fglrx. Copy 20 GB takes days, instead of hours for this issue. Thats unacceptable for backups in a company or the medium user with multimedia files. Please Ubuntu or Linux Team, contact with upstream, assign devs and raise with more priority with this bug. Perfomance is a must in GNU/Linux.""" This report was filled using "ubuntu-bug linux" command. The issue is mainly to copy or move files to a USB external storage device from the laptop or desktop. There are plenty similar reports about this issue, but I filled this for recommentation and because the devs can obtain some debug information about the devices. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1028137] Re: hid-generic 0003:046D:C315.001E: can't reset device, status -71
Testing with Linux 3.11.0-1-generic (really v3.11-rc5-saucy) I get a massive failure of hardware support. USB keyboard and USB mouse keyboard are not detected. No ethernet wireless or cable devices detected. I even have to launch "onboard" application (assistive keyboard on screen) for try to fill this bug. I test too with 3.8.0-13 generic that it doesn't have this massive failure harware support, and I still get the same errors in dmesg. I attach the dmesg for 3.11 that I think that contains traces for fix the problems. For example this BIOS bug message: [0.467862] ACPI FADT declares the system doesn't support PCIe ASPM, so disable it [0.467865] ACPI: bus type PCI registered [0.467868] acpiphp: ACPI Hot Plug PCI Controller Driver version: 0.5 [0.467951] PCI: MMCONFIG for domain [bus 00-ff] at [mem 0xe000-0xefff] (base 0xe000) [0.467954] PCI: MMCONFIG at [mem 0xe000-0xefff] reserved in E820 [0.467956] PCI: Using MMCONFIG for extended config space [0.467958] PCI: Using configuration type 1 for base access [0.469390] bio: create slab at 0 [0.469616] ACPI: Added _OSI(Module Device) [0.469619] ACPI: Added _OSI(Processor Device) [0.469621] ACPI: Added _OSI(3.0 _SCP Extensions) [0.469624] ACPI: Added _OSI(Processor Aggregator Device) [0.473466] ACPI: EC: Look up EC in DSDT [0.477336] ACPI: Executed 1 blocks of module-level executable AML code [0.499958] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored [0.500577] ACPI: SSDT bbe91a98 002E8 (v01 PmRef Cpu0Ist 3000 INTL 20051117) [0.501530] ACPI: Dynamic OEM Table Load: [0.501533] ACPI: SSDT (null) 002E8 (v01 PmRef Cpu0Ist 3000 INTL 20051117) [0.501742] ACPI: SSDT bbe90018 00891 (v01 PmRef Cpu0Cst 3001 INTL 20051117) [0.502659] ACPI: Dynamic OEM Table Load: [0.502662] ACPI: SSDT (null) 00891 (v01 PmRef Cpu0Cst 3001 INTL 20051117) [0.522855] ACPI: SSDT bbe91718 00303 (v01 PmRefApIst 3000 INTL 20051117) [0.523891] ACPI: Dynamic OEM Table Load: [0.523894] ACPI: SSDT (null) 00303 (v01 PmRefApIst 3000 INTL 20051117) [0.532856] ACPI: SSDT bbe8fd98 00119 (v01 PmRefApCst 3000 INTL 20051117) [0.533826] ACPI: Dynamic OEM Table Load: [0.533829] ACPI: SSDT (null) 00119 (v01 PmRefApCst 3000 INTL 20051117) [0.560849] ACPI: Interpreter enabled [0.560869] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, While evaluating Sleep State [\_S1_] (20130517/hwxface-571) [0.560876] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, While evaluating Sleep State [\_S2_] (20130517/hwxface-571) [0.560901] ACPI: (supports S0 S3 S4 S5) [0.560903] ACPI: Using IOAPIC for interrupt routing [0.560945] PCI: Using host bridge windows from ACPI; if necessary, use "pci=nocrs" and report a bug ** Attachment added: "dmesg-3.11.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1028137/+attachment/3779438/+files/dmesg-3.11.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1028137 Title: hid-generic 0003:046D:C315.001E: can't reset device, status -71 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I don't know if it is the right package for report but anyways.
