Ubuntu can't boot on nvidia GeForce GT240 with nouveau drivers

Status in Fedora:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

I can't boot Ubuntu 10.10 on my PC with NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 (PCIe 16x).
Instead login screen I see [attachment DSC00391.JPG].
  Ctrl+Alt+Del and SysRq+B don't work.

Why Ubuntu use experimental (nouveau) driver?!? :
  xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - X.Org X server -- Nouveau display driver
(experimental)

  WORKAROUND:
I must install Ubuntu from alternate CD and boot to text mode and uninstall
these packages: nouveau-firmware, xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and install
nvidia-current package.

WORKAROUND: Try boot live cd with nomodeset option. It works for me
  on GeForce GT 240.

All those patches should have made it to 3.16 (and were cc'd to earlier
stable kernels). Does 3.16 work OK for people?

Weston on Nouveau displays black screen on Nouveau due to page flip
  issues

Status in The Linux Kernel:
  Fix Released
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi.

On Ubuntu 13.04, it seems that Weston displays a black screen, and the
screen stays black, due to page flipping issues in the Nouveau driver
  as reported here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75761

It seems that these two patches do apply to 3.13, and fix the pageflip
issues, and it worked on my NV36 card: (One file I had to slightly
  alter myself)

  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied...751f25ebe60f28
  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied...5b438629d6858a

I haven't been able to test on newer Nvidia cards because I don't have
any, but I might be hearing back from others that do have newer caard.

Is it possible that these can be officially backported in Ubuntu
  13.04?

A lot of parts of nouveau are rewritten in various kernel versions. A

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1075050]

2013-10-01 Thread Ilia Mirkin
No (positive) response to re-test request after a month. Closing as
invalid. The driver has been rewritten enough since the original report
that it's very unlikely that the same crash still exists.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1041637]

2013-09-05 Thread Ilia Mirkin
This is pseudo-similar to bug 53566 which I closed earlier. Do these
issues persist, or are they all fixed in recent kernels?

GF114 cards = PFIFO - playlist update failed on boot.

Status in The Linux Kernel:
  Confirmed
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  The bug reported at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53101
appears to be affecting Quantal too.

Using a GTX 560 Ti, I see the same PFIFO - playlist update failed
and Failed to idle channel # messages when using the Nouveau driver.
LightDM fails to start and is restarted over and over.

This appears to be due to this commit:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/nouveau/linux-2.6/commit/?id=1a46098e910b96337f0fe3838223db43b923bad4

Marking as fixed per the last comment. If this is still an issue, feel
free to reopen with fresh logs/etc from a new kernel.

[Dell Studio XPS 1340] Doesn't enter suspend mode

Status in The Linux Kernel:
  Fix Released
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in “linux” source package in Natty:
  Invalid
Status in “linux” source package in Oneiric:
  Invalid
Status in “linux” source package in Precise:

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  - try to enter suspend mode (I used sudo pm-suspend)

  Expected result:
  - The system enters sleep mode and upon pressing the power switch, resumes
successfully

  Actual result:
  - The system fails to enter sleep mode, although it continues to be usable
(desktop is OK, I can keep typing and using the system). It just doesn't enter
sleep mode.

The sequence of drivers preparing to enter sleep mode, and then
resuming immediately afterwards, can be seen in the attached dmesg.

This constitutes a regression, as this system is able to
suspend/resume without issues with the 2.6.35-series kernel as shipped
with Maverick (and was tested with the latest SRU kernel 2 days ago).
