No mouse and/or wifi with latest kernel

Bug description:
After upgrading to linux-image-4.8.0-37-generic, bootup suddenly takes
much longer than with previous kernels (minutes vs 14 seconds or so),
usually the mouse (built in trackpad) doesn't do anything and cursor
pointer isn't there, and wifi doesn't work either. On one occasion,
both of those worked and everything worked correctly. One other
instance had just the mouse/cursor, but no wifi. All other times,
neither of the two were present.

Booting up the previous kernel (4.8.0-34.36) makes everything work
  properly.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1661782] Re: No mouse and/or wifi with latest kernel

2017-02-05 Thread Phil Boutros
Not sure why they weren't detected anymore, but adding the module for
the wifi controller and sound card to /etc/modules seems to have solved
the problem for now.

Title:
No mouse and/or wifi with latest kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading to linux-image-4.8.0-37-generic, bootup suddenly takes
much longer than with previous kernels (minutes vs 14 seconds or so),
usually the mouse (built in trackpad) doesn't do anything and cursor
pointer isn't there, and wifi doesn't work either. On one occasion,
both of those worked and everything worked correctly. One other
instance had just the mouse/cursor, but no wifi. All other times,
neither of the two were present.

Booting up the previous kernel (4.8.0-34.36) makes everything work
  properly.
