[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1785480] Re: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP)
Been running a few days on latest 4.18.0-041800rc8 and so far no crashes, so a tentative "fixed" might be appropriate now. Of course this message may be just the curse needed to replicate the issue! (I'll update if so) I'm still none the wiser as to what might have been fixed or what caused the issue in the first place -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785480 Title: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: [#1] SMP) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Stack trace from last freeze: ~$ cat /var/log/kern.log|grep "5 15:1" Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.878703] general protection fault: [#1] SMP Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.878740] Modules linked in: pci_stub vboxpci(OE) vboxnetadp(OE) vboxnetflt(OE) vboxdrv(OE) snd_usb_audio snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec_generic snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_usbmidi_lib snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hda_core snd_hwdep snd_pcm joydev snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event snd_rawmidi kvm_amd kvm snd_seq irqbypass snd_seq_device snd_timer snd input_leds k10temp serio_raw edac_mce_amd edac_core i2c_piix4 soundcore shpchp 8250_fintek mac_hid parport_pc ppdev lp parport autofs4 hid_generic hid_logitech_hidpp pata_acpi hid_logitech_dj usbhid hid uas usb_storage amdkfd amd_iommu_v2 radeon i2c_algo_bit ttm drm_kms_helper syscopyarea sysfillrect sysimgblt fb_sys_fops r8169 firewire_ohci drm firewire_core mii pata_atiixp crc_itu_t ahci libahci wmi fjes Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.879121] CPU: 2 PID: 14839 Comm: MemoryInfra Tainted: G OE 4.4.0-131-generic #157-Ubuntu Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.879163] Hardware name: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Done. Latest linux-headers have dependency on libssl1.1 https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/amd64/libssl1.1/download whichis not available in 16.04 but no problem installing that manually. Now will wait and see if issue returns, may take a few days. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785480 Title: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: [#1] SMP) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Stack trace from last freeze: ~$ cat /var/log/kern.log|grep "5 15:1" Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.878703] general protection fault: [#1] SMP Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.878740] Modules linked in: pci_stub vboxpci(OE) vboxnetadp(OE) vboxnetflt(OE) vboxdrv(OE) snd_usb_audio snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec_generic snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_usbmidi_lib snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hda_core snd_hwdep snd_pcm joydev snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event snd_rawmidi kvm_amd kvm snd_seq irqbypass snd_seq_device snd_timer snd input_leds k10temp serio_raw edac_mce_amd edac_core i2c_piix4 soundcore shpchp 8250_fintek mac_hid parport_pc ppdev lp parport autofs4 hid_generic hid_logitech_hidpp pata_acpi hid_logitech_dj usbhid hid uas usb_storage amdkfd amd_iommu_v2 radeon i2c_algo_bit ttm drm_kms_helper syscopyarea sysfillrect sysimgblt fb_sys_fops r8169 firewire_ohci drm firewire_core mii pata_atiixp crc_itu_t ahci libahci wmi fjes Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.879121] CPU: 2 PID: 14839 Comm: MemoryInfra Tainted: G OE 4.4.0-131-generic #157-Ubuntu Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.879163] Hardware name: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1785480] Re: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP)
Impossible to tie it down to upgrade or specific action or app at this point, been happening unpredictably over last month or so, it could be related to recent requirement to use Skype/VCC for workI'll try installing the latest upstream mainline and see how it goes and let you know. May take while as I can't reliably reproduce the issue, usually seems to happen during computer idle time mid work session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785480 Title: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: [#1] SMP) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Stack trace from last freeze: ~$ cat /var/log/kern.log|grep "5 15:1" Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.878703] general protection fault: [#1] SMP Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.878740] Modules linked in: pci_stub vboxpci(OE) vboxnetadp(OE) vboxnetflt(OE) vboxdrv(OE) snd_usb_audio snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec_generic snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_usbmidi_lib snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hda_core snd_hwdep snd_pcm joydev snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event snd_rawmidi kvm_amd kvm snd_seq irqbypass snd_seq_device snd_timer snd input_leds k10temp serio_raw edac_mce_amd edac_core i2c_piix4 soundcore shpchp 8250_fintek mac_hid parport_pc ppdev lp parport autofs4 hid_generic hid_logitech_hidpp pata_acpi hid_logitech_dj usbhid hid uas usb_storage amdkfd amd_iommu_v2 radeon i2c_algo_bit ttm drm_kms_helper syscopyarea sysfillrect sysimgblt fb_sys_fops r8169 firewire_ohci drm firewire_core mii pata_atiixp crc_itu_t ahci libahci wmi fjes Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.879121] CPU: 2 PID: 14839 Comm: MemoryInfra Tainted: G OE 4.4.0-131-generic #157-Ubuntu Aug 5 15:15:45 GA-MA785GMT-UD2H kernel: [54412.879163] Hardware name: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1785480] Re: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP)
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.18 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.
