[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1413446] Re: Audio broken on 2015 XPS 13 (9343) in I2S mode in Ubuntu 14.10/15.04

This system has a dual-mode audio with an HDA and an I2S interface. Which shows up depends on the reported _OSI from the last cold boot. Since the kernels in Ubuntu 14.10/15.04 (15.04 uses 3.18 currently) report an _OSI of Windows 2013, I2S mode is used for audio. A workaround is to pass acpi_os=!Windows 2013 as a kernel parameter, but this is non-optimal since the mode of the touchpad is affected. It also results in an alternate, less used and tested path in the firmware to be used. See the attached dmesg log for details on where the failure happens. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1591804] Re: [Feature] Purley: Memory Protection Keys
We should defer it to 17.04 as new interface is queued in linux-next as part of v4.9 ** Description changed: Memory Protection Keys for Userspace (PKU aka PKEYs) is a Skylake-SP server feature that provides a mechanism for enforcing page-based protections, but without requiring modification of the page tables when an application changes protection domains. It works by dedicating 4 previously ignored bits in each page table entry to a "protection key", giving 16 possible keys. There is also a new user-accessible register (PKRU) with two separate bits (Access Disable and Write Disable) for each key.Being a CPU register, PKRU is inherently thread-local,potentially giving each thread a different set of protectionsfrom every other thread. There are two new instructions (RDPKRU/WRPKRU) for reading and writing to the new register. The feature is only available in 64-bit mode, even though there is theoretically space in the PAE PTEs. These permissions are enforced on data access only and have no effect on instruction fetches. Posted Interrupts for the processor are part of the APIC-V and was introduced in IVT. The idea is that the interrupt can be placed in a data structure for the guest and the guest can, under the right conditions, receive the interrupt without VM exiting.
