can't recognize StonePeak card, and doesn't load wifi driver.
So 12.04 can't support StonePeak. I will test StonePeak only on ubuntu 14.04.

Quote from Emmanuel: OSVs can safely have both firmware files installed
regardless of the kernel version. Kernel 3.10 won’t load 22.15.8.0 but
22.1.7.0
only. Kernel 3.13 will try to load 22.15.8.0 and if it is not there, it will
try to load 22.1.7.0. So nothing bad will happen if OSVs have both firmware
installed. Just a bit of a waste - but nothing worse than that.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1309415] Re: Ubuntu server 14.04 can't boot up after UEFI installation on Avoton-B0

2014-04-21 Thread XiongZhang
This is an issue afterwards UEFI installation. It is strange that you can see
radeon firmware but I can't see any radeon firmware on my system.
I am using the ISO from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server and under UEFI
(not legacy) installation, there is no radeon firmware in /lib/firmware.

2014-04-22 Thread XiongZhang
Using the image your provided, I do legacy installation and UEFI installation
on my system. Then I found many firmwares were missed after uefi installation.
You can compare the /lib/firmware between uefi installed system and legacy
installed system.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1309415] Re: Ubuntu server 14.04 can't boot up after UEFI installation on Avoton-B0

2014-04-24 Thread XiongZhang
First I enable proposed repository, then I am dist-upgrade my system
which install linux-firmware package. Next my system can boot up
normally. linux-meta-3.13.0.24.30 can solve my issue.

But how can I get a ISO installation image which contain this package ?
Without it, I think system still can't boot up default after uefi
installation.

Status in Dell Sputnik:

  Confirmed

Bug description:
(This is a public bug report for LP1402828.)

This system has a dual-mode audio with an HDA and an I2S interface.
Which shows up depends on the reported _OSI from the last cold boot.
Since the kernels in Ubuntu 14.10/15.04 (15.04 uses 3.18 currently)
report an _OSI of Windows 2013, I2S mode is used for audio.

A workaround is to pass acpi_os=!Windows 2013 as a kernel parameter,
but this is non-optimal since the mode of the touchpad is affected. It
also results in an alternate, less used and tested path in the
  firmware to be used.

See the attached dmesg log for details on where the failure happens.
  Notably,

  $ dmesg -t | egrep (audio|snd|INT3438)
dmar: ACPI device INT3438:00 under DMAR at fed91000 as 00:13.0

haswell-pcm-audio haswell-pcm-audio: error: ADSP boot timeout
broadwell-audio broadwell-audio: ASoC: CPU DAI System Pin not registered

There's also a failure to load the codec firmware after a

Bug description:
  Issue:

triggered by some wild function call or data access, the screen would be

Generally, an SMEP/SMAP violation should cause the involved process

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1518816] [NEW] xhci: Workaround to get Intel xHCI reset working more reliably

2015-11-22 Thread XiongZhang
Public bug reported:

 SRU Justification:
On all of Intel's shipping xHCI platforms, including both servers and clients,
the controller can cause the shutdown process to hang.
This is because existing Intel xHCI controllers require a delay of 1 mS,after
setting the CMD_RESET bit in command register, before accessing any HC
registers. This allows the HC to complete the reset operation and be ready for
HC register access.

Fix:
Patch in 4.4-rc2
commit a5964396190d0c40dd549c23848c282fffa5d1f2
Author: Rajmohan Mani
Date: Wed Nov 18 10:48:20 2015 +0200

xhci: Workaround to get Intel xHCI reset working more reliably

Regression Potential: Just add a 1ms delay for xhci_reset, so
regressions are very unlikely.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1398274] Re: [Feature] TPM2.0 kernel support

2016-03-08 Thread XiongZhang
Sorry, I have to add more commits for TPM 2.0 trusted keys.
In v4.5 kernel:
6674ff1 tpm_ibmvtpm: properly handle interrupted packet receptions
b8ba1e7 tpm_tis: Tighten IRQ auto-probing
e3837e7 tpm_tis: Refactor the interrupt setup
7ab4032 tpm_tis: Get rid of the duplicate IRQ probing code
2511204 tpm: rework tpm_get_timeouts()
036bb38 tpm_tis: Ensure interrupts are disabled when the driver starts
727f28b tpm_tis: Use devm_free_irq not free_irq
f728643 tpm_tis: further simplify calculation of ordinal duration

There are also some bug fixes patches queued in maintainer's tree for v4.6.
Once 4.6-rc1 is released, we will give the commits.
If 16.04 couldn't wait for 4.6-rc1, 16.04 should pick this fixes at least
which will be in 4.5.1 stable.

1)Fill and return the new SuperSpeedPlus USB Device capability descriptor as
part of the BOS (Binary device Object Store) descritptor. The speed info needed
to fill this descriptor can be parsed from extended capability, supported
protocol PSI lists. (see xhci 1.1 section 7.2)
2)Return the new EXT_PORT_STATUS when usb core requests a get_port_status()
with new option. Can be read from xhci PORTSC register speed field, and map it
to the PSI in the extended capability.Optionally check it from slot output
context?
  3) Check if usb core stored SSP (SuperSpeedPlus) isoc endpointcompanion
data with the endpoint and use it to calculate max packets and bandwidth.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1591804] Re: [Feature] Purley: Memory Protection Keys

2016-09-21 Thread XiongZhang
We should defer it to 17.04 as new interface is queued in linux-next as
part of v4.9

** Description changed:

Memory Protection Keys for Userspace (PKU aka PKEYs) is a Skylake-SP server
feature that provides a mechanism for enforcing page-based protections, but
without requiring modification of the page tables when an application changes
protection domains. It works by dedicating 4 previously ignored bits in each
page table entry to a "protection key", giving 16 possible keys.
There is also a new user-accessible register (PKRU) with two separate bits
(Access Disable and Write Disable) for each key.Being a CPU register, PKRU is
inherently thread-local,potentially giving each thread a different set of
protectionsfrom every other thread.
There are two new instructions (RDPKRU/WRPKRU) for reading and writing to the
new register. The feature is only available in 64-bit mode, even though there
is theoretically space in the PAE PTEs. These permissions are enforced on data
access only and have no effect on instruction fetches.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1460900] Re: [Feature]Code/Data Prioritization (CDP) Enablment

2016-10-19 Thread XiongZhang
** Description changed:

Code Data prioritization (CDP) is projected to be released before the
MBE(memory b/w enforcement) as part of bdx
This would be an extension of the CAT feature and the h/w would provide cache
allocation for code and data seperately once the feature is enabled. This is
added from customer requests who have very large code footprints and need to
seperately prioritize data and code.

  Schedule:
- upstream: 4.9 kernel
+ upstream: 4.10 kernel
  xen: 4.7

** Changed in: xen (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Fix Released

  [Feature] Purley: Memory Protection Keys

Status in intel:
  New
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1643087] Re: Yakkety failures on Xeon Phi (Dell Poweredge C6320p)

The microcode on DELL KNL-D machine is 0x01a0, while our SDV is

Another strange thing in cpuinfo is cpu frequency is 998.962MHz, why is
it not 1.3GHz ?
