RE: [kicad-users] Specifying footprints using the EESchema Footprint field

2009-06-30 Thread Bob Shaffer
Robert,

Since it works for you, I tried it again and this time the $noname was
replaced by the footprint name in the netlist. Maybe I did something wrong
the first time I tried it.

In your experience, the .CMP file generated by CVPCB was not needed by
PCBNEW?

Thanks,

Bob

I can tell you that it is possible to enter the footprint in this field
and completely bypass CVPCB because that's what I do. I don't know why
it's not working for you though, as I didn't have to do anything special.

Regards,

RE: [kicad-users] Busses between sheets

2009-06-26 Thread Bob Shaffer
Greg,

Great suggestion! I added the net labels to the problem busses in my real
design and all looks good!

Maybe it’s the net names that are the real “connections”

Now I’ll have to move on to the layout.

I sure appreciate you taking the time to help.

Thanks,

I was stumped for a while. Then when I added a net label to the bus (like you
would a wire) everything worked out just fine.. I'm not sure if that is the
correct answer, but it cleaned up the errors and the net list showed everything
connected correctly.

HI all

I am hoping I can impose on you again. I am still having difficulty getting a
bus to propagate properly from one sheet to another. It is behaving as though
the hierarchical connection doesn’t exit.

ERC indicates that the buss connection isn’t there and if I generate a netlist,
there are no connections!

Would someone be willing to take a quick look at the attached project an see if
you can again spot the error I am making?

In this test case, I am only concerned with the buss. I realize there are other
issues that need to be addressed to get a clean ERC.

My initial guesses would be:

1. You used a local label instead of a global label or net name.

2. Somehow numbers were not the last characters in the individual nets or the
bus was not the prefix of the net names.

3. Buses in KiCAD are not like computer busses. Only nets with the same prefix
followed by numbers are allowed in the bus. A0, A1, A2 in bus A[0..2] is a
valid bus but WR, RD, CLK in bus Control is not valid.

(I did all of the above starting out)

It's difficult to analyze without seeing what you have done. If you email me
