Furthermore, thanks to Joy Nelson, use the following;
You will need direct access to the database to correct this.

Login to mysql (or mariadb) and run the following query:
delete from deletedborrowers where borrowernumber in (52,78);

The above query will take care of those duplicated ids.

Also thanks to Jonathan Druart look at;

Re: [Koha] Regarding install KOHA Live DVD in window 10

2017-03-27 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Hi Lalit Thakur,

Windows 10 is not the recommended way to install Koha. Please see;
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages

Ubuntu 16.04 or Debian Jessie

If you insist please change the BIOS settings in Windows to boot from CD

Depending on which computer you are using to enter bios settings (NOTE: at
your own RISK) reboot your machine and when reboots press F2 or DEL or F10
(this depends on the make of your computer). Enter bios and change the boot
order to boot from CD, save changes and exit.

Reboot your machine with the live DVD in the drive and it will start from
the DVD. I hope its for testing only. Live DVD. Good luck

Thank you

[Koha] Attaching files to catalogue records

2016-09-15 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Greetings Koha Users

I followed a tutorial on Attaching Files to Catalogue Records, accessed
from: http://kohageek.blogspot.com/2015/12/attaching-files-to-

I followed the instructions and very thing worked. Question?

1. How do I prevent the attached file "downloading".

2. Is it possible to tweak something so that a patron can only read the
attached document on-screen and not downloading it.

I have Koha 16.05.01 ON Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I installed using:
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages

Please help me. Or is there another way of achieving this?

Thank you very much everyone.

[Koha] Koha 3.20 on Ubuntu 14.04

2015-08-21 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Greetings,

I have been trying to install Koha 3.20 in Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) 32bit.
I am following install instructions from
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian page.

At the end when I try to go to either IP address and port number (eg
192.168.0.1:8000) I get the following:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0irbad4gxaga8lr/Koha%20Index%20of.JPG?dl=0

I have configured ports.conf as follows;

Listen 8000
Listen 8001

for Staff Client and OPAC respectively. Of course leaving the Listen 80
intact. First time encountering these issue. Tried the same in Debian
Wheezy and Jessie with the same error as above. What am I doing wrong. I
have no problems with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or Debian Squeeze using old stable.

Please help me I am from the "Copy and Paste" Brigade

Thank you all

[Koha] Koha 3.18 on Debian 8 Jessie

2015-05-04 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
I have been testing out the installation of Koha 3.18.06.000 on Debian 8
(Jessie). Minimal Server. I downloaded Debian Jessie from
https://www.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/ (Official CD/DVD images of the stable
release)

Everything went smoothly without any hitch except the following;
Cannot write to `-' (Broken pipe) error message

When adding the APT trusted keys: wget -O-
http://debian.koha-community.org/koha/gpg.asc |
sudo apt-key add -

Solution: I replaced the pipe "|" with ">>"

the key was added and thereafter I went ahead and installed Koha using the
instructions at:

http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian

I am sharing this because I though this could help someone. There could be
a better and "technical" way of achieving the same. Any comment from the
Koha Gurus

2015-01-27 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Yes it is possible to add new item type. This is how you do it; Log in to
you Koha (staff client) Go to Koha Administration. Under Koha
Administration, Basic Parameters, go to Item Types. You will see a button
labeled New Item Type click on it . Then you will see Add Item Type. Type
in the code for your item type e.g. BK for Book/Books and the description
for your item type e.g Books or JL if your tem type is Journal. Then
lastly choose an icon if you need one from the options available seshat,
vokal etc and click on save changes button.

LibLime Koha on the Koha Community! You are alone Jesse. My advice to you
is to install LibLime Koha and test it in something like a virtual
environment after the test drive you can then compare it with anything.
Also ask the people who use LibLime Koha other wise asking about Liblime
Koha on this community may not get you useful "information". Good Luck

Re: [Koha] Koha Extra Records

2014-10-15 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Hello, Mr Olugbenga Adara,

Thanks for your solution. It worked liked a charm. I am now able to import
records from the reservoir into Koha through the cataloguing module. Thank
you so much.

I also tried Bob Birchall solution too but did not know how to log into the
Koha instance, create the instance as Z39.50 server and import the records.
I failed and I think its mainly because of my limited knowledge. I will
continue trying. Thanks a million though

[Koha] Koha Extra Records

2014-10-14 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Greetings Koha Community,

I am at my wits end. I have a marc file with 10 000 records on it. I want
to have this in my Koha installation for searching only. I am currently
cataloguing some books and I want to use this for searching through only,
if I find a marching record for a particular book then I import it in my
collection. When I finish cataloguing I then delete the collection because
I may not need it any more Please how do I go about it.

I am using Koha 3.16.04 on Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS and I installed Koha
according to http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.x, using package
install

Kind Regards

Just uninstall easykoha and start afresh. The ubuntu password you create
during installation of ubuntu. thats the one you should use to log into
easykoha. koha123 etc you use to log into koha itself. As chris has already
pointed out you are alone!

[Koha] Koha Upgrade

2014-06-05 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
I would like to upgrade Koha from version 3.14.05.000 to the current stable
version

What issues do I have to look out for; when it asks me which configuration
to keep (mysql)
When I fail to access my Koha instance what command do I have to execute
for my instance to be up and running.

I say so because when I tried to upgrade my Koha installation the system
asked me about which configuration to keep or over right because it was a
requirement in the new version of mysql, afterwards I could not log into
Koha. Please help.

[Koha] Strange email

I have just received some strange or rather inappropriate message from

How did this Carrie get on the mailing list in the first place?

Re: [Koha] Duplicating a running environment

2013-10-05 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
One option you may try is to install Webmin on both machines. Then on the
machine that you want to duplicate log into Webmin and Backup Database.
Select all Tables. Then backup. Please note where the resultant .sql file
is saved (I usually use the Desktop). Copy this .sql file on a flash drive.
On the second machine where you want to duplicate your Koha installation,
log into Webmin and this time choose Execute SQL. Choose Run SQL From File.
Choose the file on flash drive (or any media you used to save file) and
EXECUTE (please note; choose the appropriate character set) Depending on
the size of the file this may take some time. If all goes well you should
have a neat duplicate of your Koha installation with all patron records,
circulation etc. I have used this method several times and it works like a
charm all the time, not very technical I am afraid but works for me.

Re: [Koha] Live DVD (Was: Master-password (katikoan) and Live-DVD

2013-05-22 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Like I said before, after learning about Koha and linux using the Live DVD
first Mizstik's *Koha Live* CD then Vimal Kumar's. After doing several
installations and gaining enough confidence and experience I am able to
install Koha in most linux distros. I remember the embarrassment of asking
for a Live DVD at KohaCon12 during the Hackfest! All this is behind me now.
At my institution, Charles Lwanga College of Education in Southern Zambia
we now have Koha 3.12 in Debian Wheezy which I installed with no problems
at all except for tinymce2 that Koha grumbled about but was able to install
from http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/tinymce2 and then
ftp.uk.debian.org/debian<http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/pool/main/t/tinymce2/tinymce2_2.1.3-1_all.deb>
afterwards
installed the tinymce2 deb package using GDebi package installer.

Well, to be honest I really benefited from Live DVD. I am a librarian who
had no prior experience about linux. The live DVD assisted me a lot to
learn about Koha itself and the internal plumbing of linux. I am a self
taught koha and linux user. I remember at KohaCon12 in Edinburgh, Scotland
asking MJ and Chris Cormack about the possibility of a Koha Lived at the
conference. No, was the asnswer. Thanks to Mr Olugbenga Adara of Nigeria
and to my own persistence I taught my self. So it was the Live DVD, the
Koha mailing list and my own willingness to learn.

So if you ask me today, I am able to install Koha on a server with GUI or
not, configure them properly for LAN or internet access and do training. I
introduced Koha in all the teacher training colleges under the Ministry of
Education, including the three new universities Nkrumah, Mukuba, NISTCOL
and at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA),

I wouldn't strike the Live DVD off. Its a very nice tool to begin with, so
please dont shoot it down!

Re: [Koha] Install koha-common 3.10 on Debian wheezy

2013-05-13 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
Greetings,

I successfully managed to install koha 3.10.5 in Wheezy. What I did is
add /etc/apt/sources.list.d/koha.list file: deb
http://debian.koha-community.org/koha squeeze main and then manually
install tinymce2 from
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/all/tinymce2/download and click on
 ftp.uk.debian.org/debian to download tinymce2, right-click on
tinymce2 and use the installer to install it. Then apt-get update then
apt-get install koha-common.

worked like a charm!

library and not in Koha, creation of MARC records (cataloging module).
That's the problem of being both librarian and IT coordinator.

[Koha] Data Migration

2012-06-22 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
I intend to migrate data from Koha 3.02.05.000 to Koha 3.8. The data
is on machine running Ubuntu 10.10 (Koha3.2) and data will be
migrated to machine running Debian Squeeze (Koha 3.8). I am requesting
the Koha community to point me in the right direction on how to
accomplish this mammoth task. A step by step instruction will be
highly appreciated

Sitali C.S.
