KR> Fuel injection
> Carburetors do work just fine, and I wouldn't think you're going to get much better fuel economy than the 42 mpg at 160 mph that I'm getting now... I'm getting 38 mpg with an Ellison and a GP2180 at 150-155. These numbers are slowly improving as I continue my quest for that "perfect prop" and do some aerodynamic cleanup long overdue. Mine is a single place unlike Mark's so it's apples and oranges but just thought I'd mention it. Mike KSEE Groupon Official Site 1 ridiculously huge coupon a day. KR> County Tax Question
This thread is getting the taxes confused. Mr. Baca was referring to an annual 1% County Tax that the County of Los Angeles levies on aircraft, boats, & other "luxury" or utility vehicles. Since this is a recurring fee it is a good investment to get the valuation down to a realistic level. The lower the better. If you can show that the value is less than 5K they won't bother you anymore if you're lucky. Some are and some aren't. What Mr. Cooper is talking about is a sales tax or, here in California, also called a Use Tax which is due upon purchase or upon bringing the plane, boat or other vehicle into California. This was 8.75% when I bought my KR in Nebraska and was billed using FAA registration records. I think most states have something similiar. KR> kr-2 nosegear wanted
by any chance is there anyone out there that might have had a kr-2 trike and converted back to t.d., if so id be interested in the nosegear thanks brad
KR> Re: Nose Gear Pictures
I have the Diehl nose gear. Wheel fairing is home-built. Engine mount, from Great Plains Aircraft Supply, ties in with the struts from the nose wheel mount. Engine is a 2180 VW with a Diehl adapter case and 12 o'clock starter mount also from GPASC. https://s3.amazonaws.com/expercraft/sidwood/40886159746196c8b11e86.jpg https://s3.amazonaws.com/expercraft/sidwood/71947984246196c8b1ca61.jpg https://s3.amazonaws.com/expercraft/sidwood/50206507746196c8b1f557.jpg E-mail me if you want some construction details. OK. Cant let sleeping dogs lie. Tonight I go out to Shadetree Airport to make arrangements to finish up my tail wheel training. I already have 7 hours in a 140, so it shouldn't take that much longer. They have a WagAero Sport trainer out there and have offered to help me finish up. Nice Grass strip too! After that I will have all I need to get serious about my KR (famous last words) -- Glenn Martin, KR2 N1333A, Biloxi, MS

Well they also rebuild thier motors after every race, so the point? Not trying to be smart, but it's not a valid compare. Even production planes and new AC motors have gone the EFI route. This is not new tech anymore, with other systems coming online it will be outdated in 10-20 yrs and people will say, oh I remember the day we used Gas to fly our planes and we had injectors. KR> KR forum, OSH NOTAM available online
NetHeads, The KR forum will be at the usual 1PM on Monday in the "GAMA" Pavillion 2 in the "Forums Plaza". See the inset in the top left corner of the map at http://www.eaaapps.org/images/K09.jpg . For those planning on flying into OSH, it makes a lot of sense to order the free "NOTAM" (how to successfully fly into and out of OSH during Airventure). It's a half-size book that's easy to manage in the cockpit, and they'll deliver it to your door for free. Visit https://secure.eaa.org/airventure/notam_request.html and fill in your address to order. Too easy! Also, don't forget to get a departure briefing on your way out. Departure Briefing All pilots departing on Runway 18/36 before the daily air show should have a departure briefing, available on ATIS (128.75), in the EAA AirVenture NOTAM, or in the Departure Briefing shack located east of the control tower starting at 7 a.m., at the tent in South Aircraft Parking (Row 113), or from the roving briefer circulation through the South aircraft parking in a vehicle with a Departure Briefing sign. Ray Sedman sells such a kit for Corvairs, (see http://www.american-pi.com/corvair/corvhome.html ), and I'm sure others do as well. I was originally going to use CIS injection from a Mercedes or BMW on mine, but size, weight, and the number of components was daunting compared to a simple carb installation. Carburetors do work just fine, and I wouldn't think you're going to get much better fuel economy than the 42 mpg at 160 mph that I'm getting now... Mark Langford ML at N56ML.com website www.n56ml.com
KR> Aircraft Tax Question
Jack, I got my letter a couple of months ago. They wanted a copy of the bill of sale where I purchased the kit. I tried to explain that the airplane was not finished. They wanted me to pay the tax on the value of the plane finished. I made up a figure somewhere close to the amount that I had spent on parts and materials, which came to around $8K dollars and figured the tax and sent it to them with a copy of the bill of sale. They got me on my Lancair last year. Thank goodness you only have to pay it once. I should be flying the KR2 shortly. I have a few little things to finish and call the FAA. I have a friend at the FAA who is an inspector when you get ready. He says he enjoys checking out the experimentals. Some of the local RV boys use a DAR which is ok but, he charges $400.00 . The FAA does it for free. We pay their salaries so we might as well use them. From: "kr2coo...@comcast.net"To: KRnet Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 9:39 AM Subject: Re: KR> Aircraft Tax Question I recently got a letter and tax form from the state of Tennessee wanting me to pay sales tax on my KR. It ask if I bought it in state or out of state and if out of state what sales tax I paid. It also ask if it was a Kit and where I got the kit. I wrote them a letter with some pictures explaining that this was a plans built airplane not a kit and that I bought all parts from suppliers and paid appropriate tax on each individual part that I bought. They must have bought it because I haven't heard anything more from them but then again it is a bureaucracy so it may take a year or so to make a decision. Jack Cooper Chuckey TN. - Original Message - From: laser...@juno.com To: kr...@mylist.net Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 12:35:52 AM Subject: KR> Aircraft Tax Question In my negotiations with the County Tax people just south of you I took pictures of my airplane in a disassembled state and included some early articles from Kitplanes and other magazines which contained the info that the plane has a VW engine and can be built for $3000 in materials - you can find all of that online. Include the Popular Mechanix cover story with a picture of Ken Rand and his original KR-1. Put a nice package of this info together for them - educate them. They only know RV's and factory builts when it comes to planes so you have to inform them of just how inexpensive and special the KR is - made out of styrofoam and plywood. This is a better route than asking owners what they think their airplanes are worth. We all think our planes are worth at least $25K. Mike Groupon Official Site 1 ridiculously huge coupon a day. KR> Fuel injection for the Corvair?
I not going to go through what is possible as far as Electronic Fuel Injection is concerned today. That could start a long thread, so I will just ask this question. has anyone added EFI to a Corvair engine yet that anyone on the KRnet knows about and are they flying it? It seems to me with the popularity of the Corvair engine now, this is likely to have been done, or someone could be working on it. (If someone would have said it CAN?T be done, then we know someone would quietly be doing it anyhow.)
