I was going to measure it for you this weekend, but it turns out both are
covered at http://www.n56ml.com/kcontrol.html ...1/4" OD for the internal
one, and .75" for the other. At the time I built my dual stick setup, I
thought .75" seemed "about right" to me on the one from the stick torque
tube to the bellcrank, but now that I know how little force you can
actually generate on the stick without ripping the wings off, I'd say 5/8"
is fine. I probably should have calculated it and realized that it would be
some crazy number like 900 pounds of force, but at the time I had much
bigger fish to fry than to get wrapped around that axle, and I'm still in
that boat.

I don't think that last sentence qualifies as a mixed metaphor, but there
are three of them twisted in there...

It's their placement when loaded for flight that is of primary
concern. Put them too far to the rear and it will be more difficult
to rotate of takeoff. One lightweight aircraft that we all know
won't even set with the nose wheel on the ground without the pilot on
board. If loading and unloading is a problem a retractable tail
stand might be in order. The B-24 puts out a pogo stick when parked.

Can someone tell me the size tube they installed inside the dual stick controls
? Also the elevator control tube from dual controls going back under the rear
spar to belcrank behind rear spar?.. 5/8"/0.049 wall,4130 tube looks
like the right size but not sure. Thanks

KR> KR Forum

2014-07-04 Thread smwood
Mark,
For the KR Forum you could address the cg concerns for different engines and
extending the engine mounts. Some of the additional things going in the
tail not in the plans could be trim tab motors, elevator counter balance
stuff, wider elevators, antennas and associated wiring, auto pilot servos
and hardware associated with removable turtle decks. For tri-gear I am very
much aware that the main wheels are not set far enough to the rear to
consistently keep the tail from dumping when trying to mount or dismount.
Don't know if these issues are addressed in the KR-2S supplement plans.
Today I would not build a two-place KR with a 34-inch wide cockpit: that is
absurd. Yep, been there, done that.

KR> LANDING GEAR LEGS

2014-07-04 Thread ol' weirdo
Has anyone made landing gear legs from the fiberglass rear springs that
Pontiac used on vans a while ago?

KR> KR Gathering 2014 Update!

2014-07-04 Thread Steve G.
Ok, it seems that copy and paste is not working. I have had offers of
fixing the submit button on the page to send me the info. I found that the
page was made in Front Page or Pagemaker. I may have an old copy somewhere
so will try that first. If not I will be soliciting the help from those who
offered. Thank you for stepping up! :)

I have received some registration emails and will add you to the list.
Other than those who specifically listed their preferences, I didn't get
specifics from anyone. I will be in touch with a few of you today.

Thanks for your patience while I muddle through this.

KR> LANDING GEAR LEGS - Pontiac Leaf Springs

2014-07-04 Thread Peter Johnson
Hi Bill.

I took a pair of the springs and tested them for flex. They would have been
a bit soft, but quite doable with some additional wrapping.

I wrote of the efforts some years ago, along with concerns for converting
the springs to gear legs. You'll have to search the archives.

KR> Trim tab cut out.

2014-07-04 Thread Jeff Scott
I don't think it is critically important one way or the other, but I cut mine
square with the spars. It just
seemed easier that way.
