I think the Sonex plane that went down with the CEO in it was using the
Aerovee Turbo. Might want to wait for the NTSB report on it.

KR> Gathering 2016

2015-07-02 Thread Rob Schmitt
I loved the visit to Jeff's place last year on the way to Chino, but I
concur that it would not be a very good KR Gathering site. My VW really
struggled in the high altitude.

Now that's funny. One way in, one way out runway. No flybys. Land on 27,
depart on 9. DA that time of year is usually around 10,000' or higher.
Restricted area 200' south of the runway. No hangar space available. And
best of all, a real dearth of restaurants and facilities. Somehow I'm not
seeing this place as a KR Mecca. :o)

KR> Gathering 2016

2015-07-02 Thread Chris Prata
I live in Rhode Island. We have several small state airports, but a local one
is a small private rural field (08R) in the rural south of the state, where we
have nice events such as EAA fly-ins etc's (I was the local EAA Chapter
president for one term). There is little available hangar space but plenty of
tie down. The geography in general is beautiful and a beautiful place to fly,
all the way up to and past Cape Cod, lots of small airports. We also have great
beaches, and for a state that is 37x40 miles, 400 miles of coast line. A lot of
history as well. Not to mention Newport. Accommodations range from several
hotel choices to numerous B&B opportunities, to camping even right on the field
at the tree line. Clean bathroom available at all times, diners etc a few miles
away. Visitors would need some transportation though.
So, I thought I'd throw it out there.
But I also wonder if the center of the country wouldnt be best?

KR> KR Forum at Airventure

2015-07-02 Thread Mark Langford
This year's KR Builders and Pilots Forum at Oshkosh Monday morning July
20th, 8:30 at Forum Stage 3. See enclosed image for the location (at
the red balloon), within yards of previous presentations. GPS
coordinates are supposedly 43?59'04.8"N 88?33'43.5"W, and it is in the
main forum area near Homebuilt Camping and Warbirds. I have to admit
that it's hard to figure out what's where in an image of the airport in
"normal" times when OSH isn't going on.

We'll try to concentrate on desirable modifications that can be made
during KR construction. I'll try to come prepared this year! As usual,
after the Forum we'll adjourn to visit several KRs nearby on the field
(usually either near Homebuilt Headquarters or maybe in Homebuilt Camping).

KR> Gathering 2016

2015-07-02 Thread danrh at windstream.net
And, I should add to this, that I was one of those at MVN in 2013 who strongly
supported having the Gathering at Chino. I also supported having the Gathering
at McMinnville. I think it is great to move it around and see different parts
of the country. That is/was, what the KR family always did in the past.. That
said, I still think that we have not found more perfect facilities than at MVN
and should not rule it out, given that there is someone who wants to host it
there.

I would like to see one at Jeff Scott's place one of these years.

The Gathering at Chino was fantastic and I am sure this one in 2015 will be
just as good and am really looking forward to it.

Thanks to all those who host these events.

People who fly their KR get 5 votes, or maybe more. 10 would not be
unreasonable.

Attendees get 3 votes.

All netters not attending, get 1 vote.

New England would be great, but where is that? I am sure it is on the other

Also, for those of you who want to submit your requests for a location, you
need to be specific and be willing to HOST, and that is a lot of work. You
also must have your proposal presented at the Gathering. If you cannot be
there, you can have a representative do it for you.

Dan,

That's a good start. It might have to be tweaked here or there but
at least you've given it some thought.

I'll try to follow up in the next day or two with a longer post
listing things to consider if you want to host a KR Gathering.
