Paul, when you say you are doing the final prep to fiberglass the top of your
rt. wing... You do mean top and leading edge and bottom of the leading edge
back to the rear of the lower exposed main spar all in one go I presume?

Can I ask how you are laying up on the wing. 45 degrees, one layer of cloth all
the way around the leading edge to the back of the underside main spar? You are
not intending to just go to the middle of the main spar and then a separate
piece around the leading edge as the old book says I hope. I'm sure your are
not, but from what I read, alarm bells rang and I just thought I would ask and
check.

KR> Landing gear

2016-12-11 Thread S B
Owen,

I used a cut-in-four Corvette leaf spring for my tailwheel spring, it seems to
be well adapted for that use. However, I consider it is not thick and large
enough for a KR-2S main gear leg.
By the way, the Corvette leaf spring is fiberglass and not carbon fiber.

Regards,

Stefan Balatchev
Ottawa, ON, Canada

I would be tempted to look at the carbon fiber leaf springs from a junked very
low milage Corvette or NOS. The Corvette carbon springs are light, high
modulus, and remarkably cheap. I think they can be machined down to provide a
lighter spring rate if thats desired.

After looking at pictures of other KR2 control sticks I have another idea. ?I
could also shorten the control stick. ?I added a control grip head with
switches for the radio and belly board actuator, etc. ?The control grip makes
the stick much taller which is most likely the cause of my problem. ?(It's not
often that I want to make things smaller.)

?My final prep consistent of fillings voids and checking the spars for high

?BID layers from the fwd spar around the leading edge to three inches below the
L/E cordline and one layer from the fwd spar to the T/E. ?I didn't like the how

Before you start modifying I'd have someone
measure the aileron travel to see how close to
full travel you have before your leg stops the
stick. Unless you do an aileron roll you'll
seldom ever use full left or right stick while in
flight. Even an aggressive turn will require maybe have stick throw.

2016-12-11 Thread Rudi Venter
Hi Everyone.

Yesterday was a great day for me, my KR pride and joy, ZS-VYZ is now back
at the flying field after a lengthy refurbish. I still need to do a bit of
work on the brakes, need to replace the hydraulic tubes, and she needs a
new oil cooler but she will be flying again soon restored to her former
glory.

She can be seen in the links below:

She now joins my other KR2, ZU-CGR on the "status: flying" side of the
fleet.

Fly safe,

Yes, adjusting the cables would take care of the stick clearance on the left
side of the cockpit. ?With dual control sticks I believe that adjusting the
cables will just move the problem to the right seat. ?I've removed the left
control stick and intend to bend it or weld and elbow to it to shift it to the
right. I can bend it tonight and have it ready for tomorrow, weather permitting
I can try again.

Dear Ya'll,
Beautiful day for taxi testing. ?All the stories of new planes flying. ?I was
mentally prepared to lift of the ground and fly down the runway landing safely
on the ground and then do it again. ?I lifted off the ground and landed again
just fine but I feel that my left leg keeps me from getting full stick travel. ?
Modification ideas?
I don't have turn buckles to adjust so I would need to make new cables, a
possibility.
I could take my left side stick out and bend it to the right. ?Most likely. ?
Did anyone else have the same problem??

KR> Landing gear

2016-12-11 Thread svd

Hi Bill,

With the hesitation that (in my sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet experience)
any deviation from the well trodden path leads to excessive completion delays
and unpredictable results, this is after all ?experimental? aviation.

The project I took on already had gear, but if I was at that stage I would be
tempted to look at the carbon fiber leaf springs from a junked very low milage
Corvette or NOS. The Corvette carbon springs are light, high modulus, and
remarkably cheap. I think they can be machined down to provide a lighter spring
rate if thats desired.

On the other hand, the new Sonex gear is Titanium and they certainly know about
these carbon springs, so there may very well be a good reason they wouldn?t
work well.

Both Robert Pesak and Mike Sylvester have recently finished up and been
flying their KR2S's, but they didn't make it to the KR Gathering. The
three of us got together today down at Mike's airport, which is
practically part of the Talladega Speedway in Alabama. We talked a
while, joked a bit, froze our buns off, and then flew some. A picture of
each (and a link to each of their planes) is located at the top of the
KRnet webpage at http://www.krnet.org/. These are two very fine KRs,
and will be in serious contention for the awards at the 2017 Gathering
at Lee's Summit, Missouri in September. Also see enclosed photo with
Robert on the left, Mike in the middle, and Rusty (local Bearhawk/Rebel
