KR> KRSuper2
Hello David, My first airplane was a KR2. Like most of us the reason was because it was a pretty little airplane for very little money. It was twitchy but I managed to fly and enjoy it for a while until I felt that I want something with more utility and better stability. That was 20 years ago. In reality, the KR2 is a fairly complex aircraft to build. It takes most builders 2000 hours to finish. It is not inexpensive any more. You'll spend over $20,000 and more likely $25,000 to $30,000 for a nice one with decent panel Its flying qualities may have improved with the stretched version of the KR2S but it still lacks in comfort and utility. I am not telling you all that After telling you all that I would to discourage you from building, but if you are going to spend the time, efforts and money why not build a newer airplane design. We at Aeromax aviation had designed an aircraft based on years of aircraft building experience and were able to combine all the good qualities of several aircraft designs into one that would make for the best all around airplane. A Safe and stable airplane that is extremely comfortable (44" cabin), with high utility, longer range and excellent performance. You can build it either as a LSA or a fast airplane. Our design utilizes various materials and methods for manufacturing the airframe parts so that we can offer you an airplane kit that would take less than 600 hours to build. We have also designed and developed the best Integral Front Bearing (patent pending) for improving the Corvair engines reliability. Our integral rear mount alternator and starter makes for the best and most efficient engine you can find. I invite you to visit our web page: www.aeromaxaviation.com and look at our products: Aircraft / Corvair based engines / parts for the do it yourself / Fire wall forward kits. The KRsuper2 A great improvement over the KR2. The fuselage is made as a moldless composite. No longer the intricate wood buildup but still needs quite a bit of time to shape and finish. Our Aeromax fuselage is made in a mold. The aircraft was designed by myself based on my previous aircraft design the Super Pulsar 100. The molds were made on a 5 axis cNc router. The wing of the super 2 is comprised of a 15 ft. center section and two outboard wings. I does present an issue when you want to trailer the airplane. YOu'll have to detach the centeer wing as well for transport. It uses a composite / carbon (expensive) Spar. We have decided to design a wing utilizing the well proven wood spar 7 ft. center section for ease of transport. and two outboard wings of 9.5 ft each for a total of 26 ft span. The airfoil is the same AS5416 tapering down to 12% at the tip. the aeromax was designed to offer you the kit advantages at a Plans built aircraft cost. Whatever you'll decide to build remember that we are here to help you in your project. Feel free to contact us with whatever question you might have. Bill Clapp -Engines inquiries. I wrote again, though, last week. I still haven't heard from him. Does anyone actually have one of these planes flying? Has anyone done any structural analysis of it? We may be very helpfull to you in completing your Super2S as our aircraft was developed with the improvements in as the Jeff Scott's Super 2S. We however, took it several steps forward with very obvious and huge benifits to the builder. Please look at our web page: www.aeromaxaviation.com Aeromax aviation was formed for the purpose of offering aviation enthusiasts like yourself, a better option than a KRsuper2S for approx. the same cost as it would cost you to build a high quality KR super2S. The company was founded by Myself and Mr. bill Clapp who is well known around the KR2 builders as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced builder. I myself owned Pulsar Aircraft Corporation between 1999 -2005. Bill and myself took all of our experience and put together an aircraft design that will combine the quality of a Super Pulsar aircraft at a KR2S price range You'll benefit by saving huge amount of time as our airplane takes only 600 hours to build, compared to a couple of thousand hours to build a KRsuper2S. We can supply you with a Composite Fuselage Boat / Turtle deck / front deck / Spars / Wing skins / Ribs / WAFs / Horizontal and many more parts that we are fabricating from our CNC molds. Having completed almost two weeks in California, I was going to fly from LA (BUR) to Palomar (CRQ) near San Diego this morning for my last day, then head towards home Saturday morning. On startup, my engine coughed heavily without starting. Then the smoke started. By the time I climbed out, dug out a phillips, yelled for the lineman to bring a fire extinguisher, removed the 15 quarter-turn fasteners and removed the cowl, paint was already bubbling up on the exterior of the cowl. There were flames coming from the area aft of the co-pilot carburetor. The fire was extinguished immediately after only burning for 2 - 3 minutes. Many wires are charred, electrical connectors are semi-melted, the brake fluid reservoir melted off its mount and who knows what else. I could not detect any structural damage and even the inside of the cowl seems structurally intact. The insurance adjuster will take a look in the next couple days and I'll return in a few weeks with parts and pieces to try and piece Juliette back together enough to fly her home. I'm not superstitious.

Hello Everyone, First of all I'd like to congratulate Mark on his initiative. My First airplane ever, was a Trophy winner KR2 called "Miss Lily" built by a talented young pilot, Tod Goudau. I loved it and enjoyed every hour I flew it. After about 150 hours I felt that I am ready for something better and pursued my aviation interests. That was some 20 years ago. So its about time that someone will come with an improved Plans built aircraft and I wish Mark all the best. The more aviation design and development the better we're all are. I would like to take this opportunity and let everyone know that I had completed the design work of two much needed aircraft kits. I'm actually having the production tooling made. My goal was to offer builders a modern and advanced Composite Aircraft Kit that they could finish and fly for the same cost as a Plans built KR2S. Well, Let's say Slightly higher. I will not offer anything for sale until the plane is built and thoroughly test flown though. I've been spending my nights in England refining the concept, and am now working out the aerodynamics. I'm also incorporating what I've learned from the modifications that I and others have made and flown, and will make sure it is LSA compliant so I can fly without a medical in the future if necessary. This may sound funny, but my emphasis with this one will be economy, not speed, especially given LSA top speed limitations. I don't want to go into any more details, because there are some folks on this list who will copy my intent, so please don't ask. KR> Case Head studs
Hi Tom, I understand your confusion. As a rule, only replace worn or damaged head studs. If the studs seat tight in the case leave them in and clean the exposed end. If they do come out of the case (cleanly with no removal of case material). Clean the studs and reinstall it with Loctite. If a some case material came out with the stud You need to replace them with oversized studs available through CLARKS corvair parts. These work quite well. If a lot of case material comes out with the stud (stripped threads) then helicoil or time-serts work well. Of the two I prefer time-serts. Helicoils can be a bit of a pain and have less surface area. If you have any further questions we'll be more tehan happy to help. Feel free to contact me at aeromaxaviation.com. You will have to have all your documents and application ready (you have plenty of time to prepare those) From what I read about the project you have more than 51% of the different tasks (I did not say 51% of the amount of work left) in the project left to be done so you can be candid about buying it at the current stage. KR> Dragonfly Canopy
Hi, You can call Judi at Aircraft Canopies in Los Alamitos, CA. i think she can blow a Dragonfly canopy fro you. Tell her that solly referred you. Solly Mark Langfordwrote: Eric KelsheimerTo: "KRnet" > Can anyone tell me how wide you can go with the fuselage using the Dragonfly Canopy? There has to be a limit as to how far it can be distorted and still work?< The Dragonfly canopy is very flexible. I guess where I'd start with that question would be to find out the width of a Dragonfly airplane, and then add about 4"-6" to that, depending on what you want the canopy to look like. That will get you to at least 8" wider than a KR, which ought to be way more than enough. I have no doubt that you could open it up to 60" wide, but it would look stupid. My personal answer to that question is that it will go plenty wide enough to look good and work fine, and wider than you'd need, unless you and your passenger are huge, in which case, you are building the wrong airplane. Last I heard these were only being made in Australia or somewhere, do maybe you need to look at Pulsar canopies or something similar. There are plenty of canopies out there that'll be as wide as you want. Take an RV for example... Hello mark, I do not argue with facts. Thanks for the input Solly Mark Langford <n5...@hiwaay.net> wrote: Solly Melyon wrote: > I had tried several wood propos on a Super Pulsar 100 with an IO240 up > front. the Sensenich was the best bang for the money. Did you try a Sterba? Sterba sells props for around $400 (I believe it is) for the KR, and they work well. Sensenich sells their KR prop for about $750 or so. They are similar in performance, from my experience. My 54x54 Sensenich is more of a climb prop, so I can turn it up to about 3650 rpm at low altitude WOT, but get about the same speed out of it as my Sterba at 3300 rpm under similar conditions, but slightly less climb performance. That's a classic "climb vs cruise" prop compromise, so at this point I can only surmise that a Sterba prop is a better deal for my purposes (given the price), and I do like the idea of going the same speed but turning 350 rpm less. I would think that lower rpm would be better on the engine, and if I get the same speed out of it, I'd call it good. I have to throw in that a guy at Sensenich once told me that "a Sterba prop is hard to beat". By the way, the one thing I'd change about the recent Sport Aviation article is the comment about the Sterba vs the Sensenich performance. I don't know where that came from, but I'm pretty sure I ever said that my Sensenich was 13 mph faster than my Sterba. Even if you picked up those two data points from two different places, there would have to be a lot of different factors involved to keep them from being very similar in performance. I didn't write or influence that article in any way, and never got a shot at proofreading it...or it wouldn't have said that in the end...
