Re: KR> In-flight Fire

2017-01-30 Thread bjoenunley via KRnet
I don't worry a lot about fire, never have.  I do wear a fire retardant long
sleeve shirt most of the time in the winter to keep me warm, but it probably
won't do much good if it got real hot.  A fire extinguisher and a parachute is
probably the best option for in flight fire response but a parachute wouldn't
fit in my cockpit.  I do know of one guy who used a parachute to save his life,
not to fire though. He told me the story himself.
P.S. I got a gopro camera today.  All you with videos made me want one.
Be safe.

2016-07-24 Thread bjoenunley

Dear Gentlemen(and ladies?),
Should I put the tee on the inside by the peddles or on the front of the
firewall?
Firewall= two holes in the firewall, less mess if a leak occurs. ?Extra hole in
my plane.
Inside= one hole.?
Cleavland brakes, 2 master cylinders. Reservoir will be located in the engine
compartment mounted to the firewall near the oil dipstick. ( I may cut an
access door in the top cowling to check fluids.). ?Two brake fluid supply lines
converge into one at a tee. ?The single brake reservoir line runs to the
reservoir. ?

KR> Who's working on stuff

2016-07-24 Thread bjoenunley

I am attempting to build a fiberglass spinner. ??It is harder than it appears
or I'm not as talented as others. ?I first used the original aluminum spinner
as a female mold. ?I waxed the inside, cut pieces of cloth, epoxied and then
instead of vacuum bagging I filled a bag with water, placed it inside of the
spinner to squeeze the layers of cloth together. ?When it was done, most worked
perfectly with a smooth finish but I had a week spot and flaws. ?So I then used
that part as a positive mold like Mark Langford I used duct tape as a mold
release and cut the cloth to fit from a patern I made out of paper. ?The result
is not very pretty. ?
Now that I'm practiced I will try the female mold again after I find a better
way to organize the cloth pieces.
I Wish I was at Oshkosh this year. ?

Subject: Re: KR> Removable Front Deck

A removable front deck is a necessity, in my mind, and it's so easy to
do during initial construction, there's no reason not to do it (unless
the half a pound of flox and hinges is prohibitively heavy...and it
ain't!).?? I show one way to do it at http://www.n56ml.com/kmlfd.html
and I did the same for the aft deck at http://www.n56ml.com/kad.html.
Risky?? Both have been tested for 1130 hours, and at 245mph top speed,
if that'll work for you.? Oh, and with a 245 pound Corvair engine
hanging off the firewall.

Imagine trying to access your brake cylinders.? First step is to climb
into the KR and lay down across the seat.? Impossible?? Yes, so you'll
have to lay across the seat with your butt up on the longeron and feet
dangling over the wing, while you finagle your shoulder through the 6"
slot formed between the panel and main spar.? But your shoulder is all
that fits...your body prevents you from reaching any further.? Now reach
way out with your hand, and you STILL can't reach the pedals or the
cylinders, much less get TWO arms in there to remove any bolts.? So
whatever you do, have to be one handed, which doesn't work, since you
can't reach anything anyway.

Next step, remove the instrument panel!? You did make all of your
electrical connections "connectorized", right?? No?? Then start
disconnecting the battery and all of your switches!?

Oh, panel won't come out because of throttle, mixture, carb heat
connections?? Disconnect those from the engine and pull them loose so
the panel will come out.?

You can quickly see that a removable front deck is simply a necessity,
not a convenience.? And after all that invasive surgery to your vital
controls and electrical connections, you may have compromised flight
safety in the process, just to access a brake cylinder.

One of my POS brake cylinders leaks down after holding my foot on the
brake for more than about five seconds, and then I have no brakes on the
left side.? I'd love to fix it so my brakes don't go away while landing,
but I simply can't get there!? And bleeding brakes is not uncommon
(leaks so happen), so unless you have a remote reservoir on the
firewall, how do you refill them?

With a removable front deck (or at least a large access panel),
modifying or troubleshooting the instrument panel is a breeze.? If you
can't get these critical items, you're going to let things slide and
further compromise flight safety.?

Just my 2 cents worth, based on experience with a KR2 that was built to
the plans...no removable deck, and a fuel tank between the panel and the
firewall (bad idea!).? I could go on, trust me, but I'm short on time,
since I really need to get out to the airport and tear my instrument
panel out to replace an IEFIS system that is simply not up to the job.

However, I also read an article about how important gap seals are for

Anyone have an EA81 lying around they are looking to sell?

Another project.

Would love to have a Corvair, but plane is set up for Sub already.

Prefer one already converted for aircraft.

Please contact me off net.

Thank you,

Clayton

I have a Nexus 10 tablet running Avare. The ADS-B app is 2.99 and the
other
cable and antenna are less than $20 on Amazon.com. Other than the cost
of
the tablet (already had),? I have moving maps with ADS-B for under
$25.

A red letter day in history occurred today. Rolled the KR2S outside, filled her
up with non ethanol fuel, checked fuel flow, pump throttle one time, turned the
key and the Continental O-200 came to life. Sweeet. Ran her for about 30
minutes, I still haven't stop grinning. I took a video on my phone but it will
not email to my laptop. Say's it's to large.

I am new to the list and still in the dream stage of building a KR2 since I
just sold my Cherokee. I would like to propose KHQZ Mesquite Texas. If there is
enough interest I will volunteer to see what it will take.
Just a suggestion to the group. Blue skies to all

What is RR?
How comfortable is the sling with 2 people?
Where did you get the memory foam?

Joe,
I use the RR canvas sling seat and a 2 inch memory foam cushion that conforms
to my butt as it warms up .
At 5 foot 10 , I have an inch or so to the canopy with this set up.

KR> Canopy/Seat

2015-10-04 Thread bjoenunley

I pulled out my beatifully apolstered seat with its plush thick comfortable
cusion. ?I put a plywood board down as the seat and I have plenty of head and
leg room. ?
I welcome you in joining me as I say goodbye to my beautiful cusion and hello
to something more functional.
In my minimax I use one of those memory foam pillows to sit on.?
?What do you use?

Good evening,

I've been able to finish my seats, and I am very pleased with the
results. However (you know how it is when someone says "however") I sat in
the airplane (and, yes, I'll admit to making airplane noises too) and I
lowered the canopy-the result was needing to cock my head to the right in
order to close it completely.
