My Custom KR2S firewall rearward boat and parts are still for sale for $3,500.00 you can see them at either of these two locations! I have had lots of interest and the Barnstormers ad has been really successful. PROJECT IS LOCATED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA _http://www.bouyea.net/classifieds/j_monday/boat.htm_ (http://www.bouyea.net/classifieds/j_monday/boat.htm) or _www.barnstormers.com_ (http://www.barnstormers.com) sorry, barnstormers website is down at the moment. KR> big boy 3100
A couple quick questions for you... how would you pay for it?? There is another guy from Brazil that is interested in it and he has not got all his paperwork done and was looking at mid January, but he had it set up so I would crate it and deliver it to the Long Beach, CA dock and he would pay for shipping and all I had to do is drop it off. I have local people interested in it as well... but I definitely recognize your name as a long time KRNet guy so I do feel a little more comfortable if I have to ship it out of the country, but I also need it to be a little easier for me too!!! so if you can do the paperwork for customs or whatever... (don't want to call it an airplane engine .. just a car engine for the paper work) Let me know. KR> Diehl Main Gear
My spars are a little taller than stock KR2 Spars. Still has enough wood to be OK for through bolts.but I was thinking that it might be good to put a thin plate of 4130 on the back side (actually front side nose dtragger!) of the spar from the casting to strengthen it up (size of casting). Will still use washers on the backside.as well. Any problems with that?? other than a little added weight? KR> WAF application?
I am confused! I am about to do my WAFs and can someone show me a picture of what they are talking about... someone mentioned about drilling the holes larger in the spars for Spacers as well between the two waf's so there would be less crush on the spars. I've seen that in an old Newsletter, and Steve Trentman with the turbine built his that way. It looked a lot better, at least, and with proper spacers like you mentioned, would reduce parts count and put the joints in double shear rather than single shear. KR> Dual Controls (was seat possition)
Larry I thought the same thing.. then I was reminded that when I fly a production plane (piper warrior and most others), I always have my right hand on the throttle quadrant and my left hand on wheel anyway!!! KR> Helicopter Tape???
One of my partners races cars with fiberglass bodies. They put what they call helicopter tape on all the leading edges. It looks like a clear smooth tape that goes over the paint. KR>First flight for low time pilot (long)
Thanks for the input on your first flight! A couple of questions? You mentioned a 2" x 12" Aileron trim and then you mentioned you needed to enlarge it? is 2" x 12" the final size you feel that works well? Does the 2" x 12" trim (flap) extend past the trailing edge of the aileron, or was it cut of the aileron to make the flap? Also if you have a link to a picture posted somewhere that would be awesome! Thanks for your input! Also it seems to me that if you could have an offset bellcrank (or something like it) perhaps you could increase stick movement with less cable movement close to center, and increase the cable movement as the stick extends further away from the center, like variable power steering. This would still allow you to get the full elevator movement, and reduce the close in sensitivity that everyone seems to have problems with when starting to fly. Has anyone done this??? Thanks, John S. Monday KR2S Laguna Beach, CA

Someone suggested the RC Airplane Canopy for tip lights before. I went to the store and all the canopies they carried were extremely thin and wouldn't be airworthy in the least bit. The canopies I have seen at the hobby stores are extremely soft. If you just touch them you can leave a concave finger indent on them, with really no pressure at all. I know about the heated Pitot but anything else we should be aware of??? Thanks, John S. Monday KR2S Laguna Beach, CA Art, while technically correct, the use of non TSO's equipment for IFR use is very restricted. Now, I am not referring to airspeed, altimeter and so on. This equipment is definitely non TSO'd proper. Ref. FAR 91.205 Required. Ref. FAR 61.57 (c) Required. Ref. FAR 61.3 (e) The first three show IFR qualifications, required equipent and currency requirements. AC 20-138 points towards your answer. (FAA Advisory Circular 20-138) I would also encourgage anyone interested to go to the following website: http://home.hiwaay.net/~sbuc/tvrvbg/_borders/IFR%20equipment.pdf Now the nuts and bolts.(FAA Advisory Circular 20-138) The "box" used for primary navigation in the IFR environment must meet the requirements of TSO'd equipment. While technically not being TSO'd does not exclude you from using the equipment. However, it must meet the requirements of TSO certification. This is not just satisfying the judgement of the pilot but the actual requirements of TSO certification. This would probably only come into play if ramp checked, violated or involved in some type of incident. The simple VOR requirement check at a compass check painted on a ramp would not satisfy the TSO requirement for enroute navigation. Only after the unit had been "self certified" could a required NAV check performed this way be appropiate for use in the system. As for using a NAV for ILS operations, you must certify a one dot deviation equates to the allowable deviation vertically at the outer marker, middle marker and inner marker. For some reason the distance of 10 feet floats around in my coffee induced thinking this early. While doable, I seriously doubt an individual flyer would be able to accomplish the requirements. A GPS must automatically transition sinsitivity between enroute, terminal and approach. In addition, it must possess the ability to self check it's signal reception and automatically identify the pilot of potential signal discrepancies. Once again, this does not apply to instruments not specifically used with the appropriate "ground facilities". So is TSO'd equipment required for IFR operation..No. Is it practical to be able to self certify non TSO'd equipment? That's your call, but I don't have the ability nor do I know anyone with the ability to perform all the checks required to satisfy the requirements. >>If the box was capable of meeting the requirements of the TSO, the manufacturer would sell it as TSO'd so he had access to the type certificated aircraft market. And I have difficulty believing a hobbyist will cobble together a homebuilt GPS that meets all the TSO. << Dana Overall

I was thinking the same thing, but using some sort of permanently tempered glass to shoot through. KR>KR Questions - Stick Control - Prop
Looks like it will be official.. I will be a KR Builder by the end of the weekend, I am purchasing a partially completed kit and will be hauling it home this weekend! A couple of quick questions from a beginning KR builder!- >From the article Mark Langford put up on his website (I think by Neal) - it appears that the stick control is over sensitive - 3/4" in either direction is all that is needed to fly the KR most of the time. It would seem that it would make sense to shorten the hinge length/bellcrank distance so it would not be so sensitive, or have a progressive linkage if you couldn't get full motion out of the ailerons in a reasonable motion length... Also on the corvair aircraft engine, it seems like the RPMs for aircraft are lower and a higher RPM could yield a lot more horsepower. I understand the prop tip speed limitation, but would it make sense to have a shorter diameter prop with more blades? would that allow higher rpm and still obtain the same bite, without exceeding the maximum efficient tip speed??? I see the composite propellers often could have up to six blades - was just thinking about four! John Monday Laguna Beach CA jsmon...@aol.com

I am purchasing a partially complete KR-2S and was thinking when it was finished that I would store it outside, covered on a tie down. The location would be Corona, CA which is in southern california with fairly stable temperatures, and not very much rain. I was going to make a complete cover for it. Tie Downs at Corona AJO can be obtained for $30 per month, and hangers generally run around $300 per month. There has been a glassair out there for several years with no cover and seems to have faired fairly well. Was just looking for input, I am planning on flying it quite often, and may actually dismantle it in winter time and garage it. However it would probably never get below 45 degrees in the winter time, but we do get some short but heavy rain. Thanks, John Monday Laguna Beach, Ca jsmon...@aol.com

KR>Pre-flight check lists for the KR series planes
We need checklists!!! But since I guess we can't attach files to the e-mails... and having someone e-mail to each individual on the list separately, could we just cut and paste the checklist into an e-mail and send it to everyone through the normal kr-net e-mail? Thanks, John Monday jsmon...@aol.com

KR>Performance
John - I am thinking about building a KR-2 and the gross weight listed is 900 lbs... you mentioned 1200 lbs. One of my concerns was the low gross weight listed. What did you do to get the gross weight up to 1200 lbs? Thanks, John S. Monday jsmon...@aol.com
