Be aware the balloon will expand and contract with any change in tank
temperature. Take your measurements when the temperature is the same on 2
consecutive days.

A cheap way to pressure test your fuel tank. $1.00 bag of balloons at the
dollar store. I learned it from a Lancer builder.

Hello KRNet
I recently posted a maple prop available. That prop is gone.
I have another one, though - and is available for anyone who can use it. Free.
This is a Mahogany 52 x 62 with fiberglassed tips and leading edge protection.
At 3 1/2" thick, it weighs just 5 lbs 1 oz and was made for a Continental A-75
with a type 1 hub on my KR2 (rotates clockwise from the cockpit). It was made
to utilize lower RPM than Revmaster series.

I never used it because I swapped out engines - it was just mounted
temporarily. Sorry I can't provide the finish thickness - except to mention it
was made for northwest operation (wet), so presumably it is coated well. I also
can't provide other interesting trivia (glue, crush info, water composition,
etc) because I don't know. It is a Props Inc model and is in pristine
condition. My understanding is bolt sequencing, torquing, re-torquing, and
alignment/tracking is subjective, so please don't ask me that either. Also,
the prop position with regards to crankshaft position (with hand vs electrical
starting) is also subjective. That means you'd have to figure all that out on
your own.

Email me off the list if you're interested - and I can send you a photo of it.

Weldon Jennings

KR> Tail Section Hinge Points

2014-01-06 Thread pk.sm...@bigpond.net.au
Hi Mark, I have seen the 2 options you describe but dislike both. The servo in
the elevator adds a little weight to the control which adversely affects
flutter susceptiblity. This meanst additional counterbalance weight which in
turn adds mass in the tail, something I'd like to avoid . The nyrod into the
tail option has a couple of 'S' bends which adds a little friction to the
control rod. Have you or anyone reading this seen the servo mounted in the
horizontal stab with a shorter nyrod directly in line with the tab?

I remember having the same issue. If I recall correctly I just added an
additional piece of 3/32nd plywood on the center main spar forward side to get
the additional space needed so the outers wing WAFS would slide into the
centers. I did not have to do that at the rear spar.

>>something. rk from Sprint! <<

They must not nest then. It's been a long time since I built mine, and that
area is one of many in the plans that require careful study, and sometimes,
wild extrapolation. Come to think of it, one of the things I'll do differently
next time is butt the main spars up against each other to eliminate the gap
between the spars, and the only way that could happen is if they are both the
same width. A bushing is then used through the 3/8" bolt locations (and
epoxied into the wood), so you only have one 3/8" joint per pair of WAFS,
rather than two, and it's quicker to disassemble, and less of a hole is needed
on top of the wing. I didn't invent this...I read it in one of the old
newsletters.

Does this calculation change if all your fuel is in the wings. I'm imagining

Hey Guys, Do you ever have one of those day's when you wonder why you even
bothered to get out of bed ? Well today has been that way for me. I have been
agonizing over how to make the cowling for weeks so yesterday I finally
committed to a plan of action.I made a big foam block and mounted it on front
of the o-200a , thinking that I would build the nose bowl first and this would
be my starting point. Wrong...It looked like crap ! I am now ready to buy a
nose bowl. I do like the looks of the Holy Cowl on the Lancair and the Cirrus.
Has anybody stretched one of Williams over an o-200 ? Any suggestions ? I
forgot to mention that I have already looked at most of the webb sites on the

Wire gauge selection is a function of current carrying capacity, voltage drop

of current and are not concerned about voltage drop as you are grounding the
primary of an ignition coil to render it inoperable. My selection therefore is
more about physical strength (I don't want the wire failing and falling off).

BE WARNED ... a trailer with an aft COG under brakes is potentially as

KR> Prop size for VW

2009-11-30 Thread pk.sm...@bigpond.net.au
I believe the FAA requires 7" with a critical tyre flat. So if you have a nose
pusher you need to deflate the nose tyre and check the clearance.

It is not the VW, it is the KR and how much clearance you have to the
ground. I have heard that level, you should have 9", but I suppose that
with a nose gear, you could clear it with what makes you comfortable.

Does anyone know what the largest diameter prop a you can swing on a VW
would be?

KR> KR 2 Speed Brake

2009-08-05 Thread pk.sm...@bigpond.net.au
Forgot to mention, mine is a Nose-pusher and has good ground clearance at the
trailing edge.
If you have standard retracts there is minimal clearance here so a belly-board
could be an option. There is a builder in England who built a spoiler system
into the trailing edge of the stub wings with the hinge 1/2 way back along the
flap. The forward half rotates upward, the aft down, allowing maximum plate
area for minimal drop below the wing. If you need his link I have it.

Franco,
I'm retrofitting split flaps into the stub wings attached to the afy spar. The
original stub wings were built without flaps. I believe split flaps afford a
small amount of lift (at lower deployment angles) but produce a good quantity
of drag. See photos in my blog http://kr2spacemodulator.blogspot.com/

KR> Cleaning Brushes and Buying Peel Ply

So here is a question: After laying up fiberglass I have tried to clean my

epoxy/resin.

Hi Kurt, Easiest way I found is to have a bucket of acetone with a lid on it
beside my work bench. I drop the brush in it BEFORE it starts to set and
continue doing other things like laying peel ply on with a squeegie. When I'm
finished I wash the brush around in the acetione and wipe dry with a rag. Next
I rub in a generous quantity of citrus hand cleaner which rips through the
residue. Wash up in water and leave to dry. Comes up like new every time.
