Looks like a good one. Parts for the Limbach will cost a fortune but
hopefully the buyer won't need any. With 300 hours on it, registered,
looks nice in the picture. Even at asking price you can't build one for
three times that plus saves a lot of work - good deal for somebody.

KR> KR for sale (retractable gear)

2015-04-07 Thread Parley T Byington
List-Post: krnet@list.krnet.org
Date: Apr.7,2015
Subject: original or-2 retractable landing gear modifications

Mike;

I am the owner of N54PB here in Henderson Nevada. I too had problems with the
original design of the retractable landing gear as per the plans supplied by
Rand Robinson. The following information is furnished as to how I solved the
problems;

Dec. 7, 1991 the first flight of N54PB from the Eldorado dry Lake south west of
Boulder City Nevada. First flight went fairly well, a little pip, and early
take off while doing high speed taxi test due to an unforeseen hole someone had
dug in the dry lake in my path. Landing on the dry lake was uneventful.
Second flight same day, landed at Boulder City airport runway 090 due to high
gusty winds, had to go around four times but finally was able to touch down on
the fourth try but thats when the trouble started. When the right gear touched
the runway the whole assembly i.e.. gear leg, wheel, and brake lines came off.
This caused the left gear to twist off and come up through the left stub wing,
in the process of running the prop and doing lots of damage to the belly of the
aircraft. Cause was later found to be to small of gear attach bolts as per the
plans, they were AN3 bolts (3/16 diameter) these bolts are way to small for the
loads. A friend of mine, Ken Mintz, owner builder of N86KM (Vari-Eze and an A
and P) sent in a notification of defect to the FAA identifying the defect, this
was after we verified that the plans were in error. I installed a thicker
spring bar, went from 3/4 to 1? spring bar and AN5 bolts to attach the landing
gear legs to the spring bar. This modification solved the initial landing gear
failure.
Apr.8,1998 flew out over the Amorgossa Valley, North West of Las Vegas, and
back to Boulder City Nevada. Started practicing touch and go landings, wind
completely calm. I was attempting to find the perfect three point landing
speed by slowing down 5 mph per round until I found it. The last approach I
was slightly slow and the tail wheel touched down first resulting in a very
slight bounce of the mains, I added a little power and finished the landing as
a wheel landing, tail up. upon rolling out and as I applied the brakes prior
to crossing runway 27, the gear suddenly retracted into the wheel wells. The
engine was still running with a greatly reduced prop length, the aircraft
rolled to a stop on the wheels (retracted) and the air intake of the engine
cowling. Cause, the Rand Robinson gear lock design allowed the locks to pop up
even with double down lock springs and when the brakes were applied the locks
slipped off the little aluminum box on top of the spring bar. Solution to this
problem was to redesign the gear locks to ensure no more problems like this
occur again. The new gear lock consists of a steal arch attached to the main
spar, using the center hinge mounting bolts, and the other end is attached to
the floor. The arch has a half inch hole at the top and the bottom of the
arch, this hole is for a half inch steal pin that goes through the hole to hold
the gear down in the down position and hold it up when retracted. The pin is
attached to the spring bar and is spring loaded to push the pin through the
holes when lined up in which ever position the pilot is moving the gear to.
The pin assembly mounted to the spring bar arches as the gear is moved and
aligns with the steal arch and its corresponding half inch holes.
These two modifications were done to my KR-2 and everything else is pretty much
exactly to the original plans, however I have made my bird into a single place
bird due to keeping the gross weight down below 1150 lbs, me 200 lbs, 20 + 20
gal fuel, 1835 turbo charged VW.

Hope this information is helpful, if you need more info or drawings, contact me
off site at my address below.

Thanks

My first KR had the retractable gear and held up fine to some really bad
landings when I was learning to fly it, so I know it's possible to
construct the retractable gear in such a way that it won't collapse. The
builder of my first KR, Harold Sigenfield (Siggy) was a retired Convair
engineer and whatever he did to strengthen the gear must have worked. I
do know he used a heavier spring bar than the plans called for.

There must be some good information in the early KR newsletters about how
to strengthen the retractable gear design. That's such a shame after all
the work involved in building to have a gear collapse while taxiing with
resultant prop and engine damage.

The KR in flight with gear retracted just "looks" right. I've never
quite gotten used to the looks of fixed-gear KR's, even though I now have
one. My retractable gear had covers attached or built into the gear legs
which covered the wheels when retracted, reducing drag, and which acted
as speed brakes when extended. That was a beautiful KR - N37751. The
fellow I sold it to ran it off the end of the runway at Rialto doing
"high speed taxi texts" even though I had advised very strongly against
it. Going through KR accident reports I've seen several, at least one
fatal, resulting from doing high speed taxi tests. Anyway, enough on
that subject. Please go through the KR newsletters and maybe even KRNET
forums regarding retractable gear mods. I'm sure there's plenty of
information on the subject since it was a common problem. It can be
done right so good luck doing some research.

It would be a great help, if you would give me these answer, or anything else,

Maybe it is because airplane have vented tanks and quick drains while cars
have closed fuel systems.? Most gas cans also have tight fitting caps.

Same logic that my homeowners insurance used when they could care less
if my garage attached to my house and next to my bedroom had two cars
and a riding mower with gas and all the gas cans I wanted, but they
refused to insure my hanger separate from the house because it contained
an airplane.? Makes no difference that the cars can be 50 years old with
rusting steel tanks and the plane is inspected regularly to FAA
standards.

So, that begs the question, why is 200 gallons of fuel stored in the
tanks
of an airplane more save than 20 gallons of fuel stored in approved
containers that are completely sealed?

I rented my second one to a guy with a Cessna 210. He told me one day
that
he'd lost 19 gallons of 100LL out of the wing tank and onto the floor of

Subject: My KR

Hi Mark,
I have lately been giving some thought to departing with the KR. I had tried
to submit the lower portion of this E-mail to the KR net, but I'm not sure that
I was successful. I'm not sure that I have been updating myself with the
list. I have not tried to place the plane on Barnstormers or any where else.
I was thinking that I might try getting some input from the net first to see
what it's worth. Here is what I tried to submit. If you like, or if you
can, you can reconnect me. If not, perhaps you can see to it that this gets
posted

Hello to everyone on the net. As I remember Fridays are the for sale days. I
have pondered selling my KR for a few years now. http://www.kr-2.orobbins.com/.
I have not flown Tweety in 6 years. It makes me sad to even think about it. But
It has sat in the back yard for a few years and if I don't find it a good home
soon, time and elements will destroy it. We had a lot of fun and made a lot of
friends in the KR community. There have always been slicker, prettier, faster
KR's out there, but since our first flight in 1985, it was always a blast.

She needs some work to get back in the air. Those who know me probably remember
that my cam gear failed on the way home from the gathering in 05. I never
completed the reassembly of the engine and it still sits on top of my work
bench. The fuselage is outside and the wings are in my work room. I'm sure a
few interesting creatures have taken up living in the fuselage. It's still
fully equipped.

I really can't afford to throw money into the sky on my SS income. This is only
a half hearted effort at selling the KR, perhaps just to test the interest of
others and determine it's value AS IS.

I have collected over 1400 e-mails in the past few years and did a search to
see who was selling what and for how much. Anyone with any interest in a
restorable KR should go to my web site and see the plane. I won't give it away,
so don't ask or insult me with any ridiculous offers.I can be reached at

  Hi all,

I have a KR-2 for sale, it was a flying plane in the test phase, then had
a hard landing and now needs a few minor repairs along with finishing the
engine. it has a tri gear and the engine is a VW 1800 greatplanes conversion
done at the factory. and is brand new because the old engine had a prop
strike and as shot, so a new engine.

I also have an extra upper and lower KR-2 cowling

I don't have pictures posted yet but if there is intrest I will try to
post some somewhere. Or I can try to email pictures ?

the plane is located in California near Sacramento and I'm going to ask
$6,500.00 but I'm open to offers ?.

If anyone is intrested contact me off the net at
"bobbycrea...@yahoo.com<mailto:bobbycrea...@yahoo.com> " and I might be able
to email pictures.

I picked up the plane thinking I could finnish it and fly it, and I really
don't think it will take much to get it flying but I just don't have the
time to work on it or the place to keep it. so I think before it gets
wrecked sitting out I should move it along.

  thanks
  Bobby

KR> KR for sale

2008-10-12 Thread Oscar Zuniga
I just saw John Esch's post about him putting his KR project (and Corvair
engine conversion) up for sale. Take a look at what he's offering... it's a
great price for what you get. Cris, in Rome- too bad you don't live here,
you could buy this project already begun, with many materials included at
good discount prices, like John's project. The engine looks like a good
one, too.

I'll throw in a non-political plug for John here: if I recall correctly, he
may have spent some time either jumping out of military aircraft himself, or
flying others to locations where they could jump out of them, in service to
our country. He will deal honestly and fairly with you. He lives at
Independence Airpark in Oregon, home of a thriving experimental community
with good tech counselors and homebuilders and I'm sure he gets plenty of
people looking over his shoulder as he builds.

And just to show that my skin is as thick as anybody's, throw me off the
list if you want- I'm 3/4 Mexican and 1/4 Scots-Irish. That means I like
tequila most of the time but don't make me mad or I'm liable to get a little
upset and offer you a glass of scotch ;o) We've had a few people log onto
the KRNet and stay about as long as it takes to read a half-dozen posts,
when they get bent out of shape and go somewhere else. It's their loss.
I've learned more about aircraft and construction, and met more really great
people, here on the KRNet than I can begin to list. It's good, clean,
educational, challenging, interesting, fun. And as the French would say,
vive le difference!

This is one beautiful KR, or at least it was five or six years ago when I
saw it last. There are some pictures of it that I took in 1996 at
http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/klesterp.html . It is set up as a one
place plane because Les is a big guy. The EJ-22 is a newer engine than the
Soob in the photos. Les also makes a lot of KR spare parts, but I'm not sure
he'd be willing or able to do that now...

Am I getting advanced in Alzheimer's or do I correctly recall that Les

The last I heard, Les Palmer did not have internet nor even a computer. I
guess he became disenchanted with his computer so he canceled his internet
service. Also I think his aircraft although very well built is not an S,
it's just a standard KR-2 with a try-gear.

Actually, Les Palmer's KR is stretched 24" just like mine and his
wings were slightly longer, similar to the pre-molded skins, I
think. His gear legs where made from Grumman Yankee legs
cut down a bit with 6:00X6 mains. It is standard KR2 width but
set up as a single place. It was on the heavy side, 835 empty as
I recall and that was before the engine upgrade. It sounded awesome
with the smaller Sube engine but the performance ( takeoff and
climb ) was less than spactular, hence the bigger engine. I recall
Les trailering it to Columbia, Tennessee one year and had it flown
to Perry, Oklahoma once or twice by a pilot named Smith. Les
was building reduction drives for a while as well as props.

Sorry to hear about his health problems. If someone on the net
has a chance to talk to Les, pass along our concern and
best wishes for a speedy recovery.

RV,
Please give my regards to Les. I visited with him one
morning in May, 2001, after we had a little KR
get-together in Canton called "KRs Over Texas"
sponsored by Larry Howells. Since Les had just
installed his EJ-22 and was unable to bring it, he
invited me over to his hanger.
You can see some of the photos I took at:
http://photos.yahoo.com/alamokr2
click on the "Aviation" album, the first 8 are Les'
plane.
The original paint on Les' plane was done by Dennis
Pointer, who also built one of the most beautiful KRs
ever flown. Dennis, unfortunately, spent about 10
months recovering from a bad accident which destroyed
his plane ("wind-shear" - went inverted on landing and
took out the VASI) and, last I heard, was not planning
on doing the re-paint on Les' plane after Les had to
re-do the cowl for the new engine.
Les has a LOT of great innovations on his plane and I
had fun visiting with him and looking over his plane.
He never seemed too concerned about the weight of his
KR and, though it is a two-place with a center stick,
he planned to fly it sitting in the center, straddling
the stick, left foot on the left-side left rudder
pedal, right foot on the right-side right rudder
pedal. Not a practice I'm willing to try (too easy to
get confused in a difficult situation) but possible
due to the small size of a KR.
I'm sorry to hear he is having these health problems
and I hope he's back up and running before long.

Friends:
I have spoken to Les numerous times over the phone, and hearing the news
called him this morning with our best wishes for his early recovery. He
tells me that he has been lucky and only is minimally effected by the
stroke, on his left side. He will sell the airplane and it may need a bit
of work but sits a very pretty bird, he would let go for 15K.
He wanted me to tell everyone that he expects to make another 70 years
though so not to worry.
Best regards

KR> KR for sale bad link

2008-10-12 Thread Sharon and Darryl DuRossette
The email program with the link truncated (wrapped around to the next line)
part of the address.
HOW TO FIX in Internet explorer:
click on the link in the email - you will get an error message on ebay.
go back to the email and highlight the next line after the link (left click and
hold as you drag the cursor over the line ). Only that next line should be
highlighted.
hit "ctrl" and the "c" keys together - or - you can click on edit at the top
then copy
go back to ebay error page and place your cursor on the end of the URL Address
and hit the "ctrl" and "v" keys together or edit at the top and paste.

If that seems too difficult, you can always write down the second line in the
email and manually type it in the address to the URL address.

Finally, open ebay, go to search and enter
2475624695

That should get you there

BlankLet me try this again.

This has been a hard decision, but I am going to sell my KR2.

N122B is a to the plans built with a Diehl Tri-gear, Revmaster 2100D engine,
Serba 52/52 prop, Terra Radio and VOR, Built-in Garmin Handheld GPS, single
Gullwing canopy, Diehl's Wing Skins, 18.5 gal. removable Header Tank.

N122B has always been hangered and is currently at the San Marcos Airport in
San Marcos, TX.
You ca see several pictures of N122B on the internet by searching for "bobby
muse's kr" as well as going to Mark Langford's web site below:

http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/kbobbym.html

N122B has not flown for the last three(3) years. N122B is a now a non-flying
KR2 and is being sold for parts. I do not want the liability of selling a
flying airplane. N122B will be removed from her sides and the buyer can haul
away.

Price is $17,500 as is.

Please direct inquires to bm...@ev1.net

Thank You, Bobby Muse

I just looked at the pictures of your KR-2 on Mark's web site and must
say you have built one of the nicest ones I have seen. You should have no
trouble selling it at the price you are asking. Where do you live in the

going to want to know is. Where does he live and does he have a trailer to
bring it home on?

2008-10-12 Thread Colin
William,
It is for sale and therefore out in the open to be evaluated; that is what
people do in order to buy it.
I don't want to sound antagonistic, but if it is such a chariot, why are you
selling it?

The original retracts are known for problems, are a bad design to try to
retract them on climbout, while maintaining aircraft control, and any paint job
that is $300 is an Earl Schibe/Maco special, that will be thin, heavy, low
quality paint that will not last. Several KR netters have reported prices for
their prep work prior to painting where they have invested more than that, and
they furnished their own labor! If I am not mistaken Larry Flesner reported
spending nearly that much on super fill and primer alone. I am sure that you
are very proud of your airplane, and you have put into it alot of hard work.
But aircraft, specifically homebuilts are not like used cars, that start at a
base price because everything appears to work. Several netters including
myself have bought new 0 time airframes complete for what you are asking for an
older airplane that does not have some of the later refinements and
improvements. I am sure that at some point there will be someone who agrees
with your assessment of its value. Dan Heath stated what he thought an
appropriate value of it was and I merely agreed with him, and stated why. I
did not intend on offending you, nor insulting you. But your reaction does
leave something to be desired to sway my opinion in your direction. However,
as always this is my opinion, and I stand corrected by anyone who performs an
inspection in person and finds me to be wrong...

Hi - I am new to this net, so bear with me please! I am looking for a
suitable plane to build, and the KR2 of KR2S seems to fit the bill for me
so far. Do the current plans available have these later refinements and

is it simply that these refinements etc are what individuals have done to
their planes while building them?

Thanks.

 Bill,

You have no need to apologize to these people. Too many of them take
themselves far, far too seriously when nobody else does. I'm sure their
projects are so perfect and totally without flaw that they have earned the
right to sit at the right hand of God himself. Now, for the rest of you
critics sitting out there, let me tell you a little story about myself.

I used to be very much like you, then on August 6, 1989, my whole life
changed. I had been recently baptized a Christian and was pointing my
finger at other Christians and their mistakes. Unless you're a roper, you
will have at least three fingers pointing back at you when you point at
someone else. Being an amateur radio operator living in Cheyenne, Wyoming,
at the time, I got on the emergency weather net due to a major thunderstorm
rolling into Cheyenne at the time. It was very electrical and dropped
nearly 3 inches of rain and small hail in about 20 minutes. To read the
rain gauge, I had to go outside. There were constant flashes of lightening
and an endless roll of thunder. In a moment of pure genius, I thought, "I'd
better disconnect my radio station before it gets hit by lightening." While
holding the coax in my left hand, my right hand was on my very well grounded
Drake TR-4 and my feet on the cement floor of the basement. The next thing
I remembered was waking up some 15 feet from where I'd been standing, numb
and temporally paralyzed, lying on the floor looking up at the ceiling
wondering if I were dead or alive. After a few moments, I was able to pick
myself up and realized I really was alive. I stopped taking myself
seriously and living solely for myself at that point and began living only
for others.

Now, if you're wondering what this has to do with Bill and his KR he sold,
and sold for a price that was reasonable for both him and the buyer, here it
is. Visit your local Ace Hardware store. Buy an Ace all metal kite, a long
fine spool of wire and wait for the next thunderstorm to come rolling
through to fly it. It couldn't hurt. In some of your cases, it could only
help. Don't take yourselves so seriously: Nobody else does.

And I thought this was a forum to answer questions about building KRs and
share information. Personally, I don't have time to sort through
everyone's personal comments. That goes for people on BOTH sides of this
discussion. Unless you have a really crappy e-mail server, you DO have
the option of responding directly to the author of a message. As a favor
to this time strapped newbie builder, I would humbly ask that everyone
please consider if the message they are about to post is really
necessary, or if perhaps it is best directed to a specific individual.
This seems to be a simple courtesy to others.

If he is really getting 170 mph cruise on an 1835, it has to be an excellent
