I have been a member of EAA for about 19 years and used to fly at least 10 
young eagles a year when I had my KR. EAA is EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION

I was told by our local EAA powers-that-be that flying Young Eagles in 
experimental aircraft was frowned upon by just about everybody involved, EAA 
at OSH included, although you may not find that in writing anywhere.  And 
being afraid to leave my local treeline, I'm also reluctant to give myself 
the opportunity to kill any teenagers other than my own.  Wrong attitude on 
my part, but that's the reality of the US legal system, or lack thereof

It's not 100% bogus.  if you are flying scouts,BSA guidelines will not allow 
them to fly in experimentals.  As a scoutmaster, a pilot and one day completed 
KR2S builder I have taken many young eagles flying.  just about all of our boys 
have their aviation merit badges and it was clearly told to us by District that 
only certificated planes could be used.
But other young eagles can fly in anything that actually flys.

condition and have passenger liability insurance.  Those are the only

allow Experimental Aircraft.  However, that is not the case.

Just a clarification for those suggesting that KR are not "certified" 
aircraft - KR aircraft ARE "certified" aircraft, just as Pipers, Cessnas, 
etc. are.  KRs are just placed in a different "category" - the 
"Experimental" Category with the purpose of  "Operating Amateur-Built". 
Pipers, Cessnas and the like are certified aircraft placed in the "Standard" 
category.  To generally imply that an experimental aircraft is necessarily 
less safe than a standard category airplane would be irresponsible.

We fly lots of young eagles in experimentals.  The boy scout troops  
specifically have rules against it, so they fly in the certified  
craft.  I've never seen a KR used, but RVs, Glassirs, Lancair, our EAA  
chapter president flys 'em in his Falco.  We have an event this  
weekend at the local airport as well.

My son is eighteen and some of his friends asked for rides, they were under
eighteen (just) and considered minors in Australia. I would not take them
for a flight without permission from their parents.
