[Bug 1450085] Re: kio_sftp can't connect to hosts after OpenSSH 6 has cached their ECDSA key
I was able to build updated deb packages of libssh 0.6.5 but the problem still persists for me. I thought it would have fixed the issue as 0.6.4's changelog mentions a few ECDSA changes. Just to make sure I ssh-keygen -R HOST_WITH_ECDSA, accessed the host via SFTP in Dolphin which worked, ssh-keygen -R HOST_WITH_ECDSA again, access the host via ssh (which pulled in the ECDSA key), and then accessed via Dolphin's SFTP again which failed. Any host of mine that does not use ECDSA works fine so it does seem limited to ECDSA host keys. [Bug 1378789] Re: [SRU] Set the default IO scheduler to CFQ in Kubuntu Trusty
Thank you for making this change, finally. I'd just like to point out that Baloo is far from the only thing that uses ionice. mlocate even uses it by default when it's available. I also use it extensively in backup scripts and other long-running background operations. I even use it for Dropbox (which does a lot of I/O on startup). Frankly, I consider it a bug that deadline doesn't support ionice. Desktop systems commonly have background I/O operations running nowadays, and ionice is crucial for preventing such operations from harming interactive responsiveness. It's my understanding that deadline was only intended for servers and SSDs in the first place, so perhaps its use in other Ubuntu variants on HDDs should be revisited Or we could use BFQ on desktops and kiss all these problems goodbye...if only the kernel team would build it... (I've tried applying the patches to a current Ubuntu kernel, but it's a real mess since they aren't kept in sync. If the kernel team would build it with the kernel--not necessarily set it as default, just build it--then people could use it, experiment with it, and gather data about it. [Bug 1035755] Re: [firefox] Extension causes context/drop down menus to disappear
I'm on Raring, and I had this bug many months ago, but I turned off the global menu extension and was able to keep using Firefox. Recently Firefox began having the same bug again, and I couldn't figure out why. I even removed firefox-globalmenu, but it kept happening. Then I noticed that there is no longer an extension listed for it in Firefox, and then I noticed that firefox-globalmenu suddenly became a transitional package--i.e. it's built into the Firefox package, and there's no way to disable it anymore. So that leaves me with two choices: a. Restart Firefox many times per day. b. Turn off global menu for all applications. Neither of these are good choices. Thankfully, the libdbusmenu-qt2 package for Saucy works in Raring and seems to solve this bug. Now I'm left with two questions: 1. When is the Raring package going to be upgraded? It's essential that it is upgraded: this is a major regression that popped up without warning in the middle of Raring's lifecycle. 2. Why was the globalmenu package merged into the main Firefox package? Why is there no way to disable the global menu for Firefox? This resulted in Firefox's context menus suddenly failing to work at all, with no apparent explanation. On top of that, I had explicitly disabled the global menu for Firefox, but this merge caused it to return without my consent and without any way to disable it! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to libdbusmenu-qt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035755 Title: [firefox] Extension causes context/drop down menus to disappear To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libdbusmenu-qt/+bug/1035755/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1198754] [NEW] Please pull rev ec8e405c to fix memory leak in 4.10.x
Public bug reported: As mentioned in https://plus.google.com/10740696571114069/posts/6MjEPApTmgN, the patch at https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/kde- workspace/repository/revisions/ec8e405ca447ba5bc5a9f6a2a12e2fa90412a0d4 fixes a nasty, obscure memory leak. According to the commit message, it can result in memory leaking at a rate of 4 KB/sec! Seigo says it won't make it into 4.10, but suggests distros pick up the patch (which is a very simple patch--only one line of it actually fixes the leak, and the rest is cosmetic). [Bug 1000506] [NEW] Crashes when I run Zim
Public bug reported: Almost every time I run Zim (https://launchpad.net/zim), Plasma crashes. This did not happen before I upgraded from Oneiric to Precise. Now it happens constantly. This is very frustrating. Sometimes Plasma freezes for a few minutes before it crashes, and other times it crashes right away. After Plasma restarts, it works fine, even though I continue using Zim, including hiding and restoring the Zim window. Sometimes the Zim tray icon doesn't appear in the tray, instead leaving an empty space for the icon. Other times it works fine. I don't know if this behavior is related. None of this was a problem with Oneiric. I installed 341 MB of Plasma debug symbols from plasma-workspace-dbg, but it still says The generated crash information is probably not useful. It says there are no symbols for /usr/bin/plasma-desktop nor /usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_menubar.so. The Install debug symbols button doesn't find any packages to install. Apparently there are no debug symbols for these files in the archive. (How there could be none for /usr/bin/plasma-desktop bewilders me.) The backtrace of the crashed thread is: Thread 1 (Thread 0xb76f1a40 (LWP 19777)): [KCrash Handler] #7 0x47d50324 in QVariant::userType (this=0xf) at kernel/qvariant.cpp:1784 #8 0xb5366eb0 in ?? So far, since upgrading to Precise, I am experiencing this and two other regular crashes, one of which freezes X completely, requiring me to kill it and all child processes. Right now, I wish I hadn't upgraded, but how could I have known about these bugs if I hadn't? Would anyone else report them? Would a new user even continue using Kubuntu if he experienced such crashes? [Bug 855793] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 beta 1: Error upgrading using muon
Kubuntu will remain a joke as long as it continues to push out software that is broken by default. Muon may be great software, but it should not be the default as long as it's broken! How can we evangelize Kubuntu when it can't even update itself in a fresh install? This is the FOURTEENTH release of Kubuntu, and UPDATING is broken by default. This is just disgraceful. Someone needs to have the AUTHORITY to step in and say, This software is not ready for release, and either delay the Kubuntu release or keep the broken software out of the release. KPackageKit may not have been great, but it WORKED. This is one of the pitfalls of having inflexible time-based releases. Debian wouldn't push out a release if something as basic as updating was broken. I don't care if Kubuntu 11.10 became 11.11 or 11.12 or 12.01-- it shouldn't be pushed out the door until it's WORKING! It would even be better to skip a release than to push out one that's broken by default! What's the problem? Why doesn't someone prevent the release from going out until it's ready? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-workspace in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855793 Title: Kubuntu 11.10 beta 1: Error upgrading using muon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/855793/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 639933] Re: 10.04 - 10.10beta: could not install the upgrades - Couldn't configure pre-depend x11-common for x11-xkb-utils, probably a dependency cycle.
This should be a critical bug. Debian would call it an RC bug and not release until it's fixed, but Kubuntu has ignored it for 9 months and is about to release? :( I know Kubuntu is understaffed compared to Ubuntu (a shame that the paid employees are all paid to work on Ubuntu)--all I ask is that the final version NOT BE RELEASED until it's fixed. Kubuntu has been pushing out gold releases that are broken out-of-the-box (including broken-after- upgrade) for some time now, and it needs to stop! If that means missing a release date, so be it! It's unacceptable to publish an official upgrade that is known to break systems! How anyone could say, Go ahead and release it, even though it will break systems, is unfathomable to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/639933 Title: 10.04 - 10.10beta: could not install the upgrades - Couldn't configure pre-depend x11-common for x11-xkb-utils, probably a dependency cycle. [Bug 413704] Re: Icon for wireless is very poor
There is a confusing situation in Natty: there are two packages that provide similar functionality and have identical version strings but are slightly different: network-manager-kde and plasma-widget- networkmanagement. It seems like network-manager-kde is deprecated and doesn't integrate with Plasma as well. It also has the confusing, tiny emblem in the lower-right corner of the icon. I think network-manager-kde should be replaced with a transitional package that moves people to plasma-widget-networkmanagement. The potential problem there is that, after installing that package, it may not be selected by default in the System Tray settings, so it might not be visible in the tray by default, and it's not obvious how to enable it, especially if a user doesn't know his way around Plasma. The result then could be that the user can't figure out how to use wifi, or thinks the only way is through System Settings. Maybe the Plasma System Tray could be patched to enable the networkmanagement widget by default if it hasn't been explicitly disabled. Whatever is done, I think this conflict or transition will become a bigger, more confusing issue in the future for average users if it's not handled gracefully. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to plasma-widget-networkmanagement in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413704 Title: Icon for wireless is very poor -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 696693] [NEW] Doesn't select current user when asking for password
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kpackagekit I'm sorry if this is the wrong package--but it happens so much in KPackageKit that it's a huge hassle. Whenever I install packages in KPackageKit, when it prompts for the password, it pops up a box with a drop-down user list that initially says Select User, and I have to choose the user I'm logged in as before I can type in my password. Re: [Bug 395666] Re: plasma_applet_battery widget doesn't show Remaining Time when on battery
Harald, thanks for your reply. I don't understand why you say that the algorithm is not accurate. I can run yacpi or powertop and get estimations that are accurate enough to be very useful. I can boot into Windows and get useful estimations from the tray icon. I can run KDE 3.5 and get useful estimations from guidance-power-manager. When it says there's 2 hours remaining, there are 2 hours remaining. When it says there's 5 minutes remaining, there's 5 minutes remaining. I can test and prove that. If certain KDE developers have hardware that fails to provide accurate estimations, that is no reason to remove the feature from the KDE software. That is reason to complain to the laptop manufacturer, or get a new laptop. Who is to say that the estimates are bad but the user himself? On Wed, May 12, 2010 at 15:14, Harald Sitter apachelog...@ubuntu.com wrote: As explained in the appropriate KDE SVN commit, the calculation of remaining time is in most cases nothing to go by, in fact it is mostly so far off that it is better to not indicate the remaining time at all. So removing it for the time being (that is until someone actually implements an algorithm that manages to take most of the important variables into account) is not only sound and sane, it is the only appropriate solution. Quite frankly, the only other option would be to remove the applet completely. Say you are a car manufacturer and speedometer is actually never showing the correct speed, do you really think that deploying a product with broken key functionality like that is a good idea? This basically applies here too. Just that the presented functionality is no where as important to the correct operation of a computer than the speedometer is to the operation of a car. So instead of removing the whole applet, KDE just removed the broken part of the functionality. It might indeed be useful to have a display of how much time is remaining, but then it must be close to reality, otherwise people might just as well misuse the computer as they would misuse a car with broken speedometer. If your battery applets says that you have 2 hours left but indeed battery is going down after half an hour, then clearly something is wrong. And that problem is not easy to solve. See, the remaining time is a rather complex thing to claim a value on. It is a prediction of the future, unlike the current value of battery energy, that is an as-is value and leaving interpretation to you. Of course you might just as well say, that you still can do this and that because your battery is still half full, and then end up dead after half an hour, but that is a problem with your interpretation. So, unless you come up with a way to predict the remaining time with a close-to reality turn out, I do not see this feature return, then again I am not working on this in KDE. That said, the reason we are not undoing this is because undoing or patching as harmless as those words might sound involve (almost) exponentially growing developer time spent in maintenance and management. Something we can not and will not invest for a feature that is in reality broken anyway. So if you want to see this again, then you must go convince the one who removed it to begin with. Both KDE and Kubuntu acknowledge the fact that some people want this functionality and that is exactly why you still can activate it using the config file. Kubuntu however is in no position to argue about KDE's decision here. -- plasma_applet_battery widget doesn't show Remaining Time when on battery https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395666 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- plasma_applet_battery widget doesn't show Remaining Time when on battery https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395666 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-workspace in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Let me see here: When I right-click the icon in the tray, instead of getting a list of wireless networks that are available, I get eth0: no carrier in big bold letters, and wlan0 below that, and New connection below that. If I click on New connection I still don't see a list of wireless networks, only eth0 and wlan0, terms which are completely meaningless to the average user. If I click wlan0 I finally get a list of wireless networks, but they open in a new window, which wastes more of my time and attention. If I then choose my personal WPA2-secured network and click Connect and Save, Network Manager closes that window and tries to connect, but fails of course, because it never asked me for the passphrase! So if I then (pretending to be a new user) manage to figure out how to open the options for the newly-chosen wifi network, when I click Next enough times and get to the security page of the wizard (argh, wizards were decried years ago as poor usability!), it hasn't even automatically chosen to enable WPA2, or security at all. I have to choose to turn on security, and then make a blind guess at which type to use. In Kubuntu Hardy 8.04, when I right-click the Network Manager tray icon, I get a simple list of available networks. If I click one, it starts connecting to it, and if necessary, asks me for the passphrase, already using the right kind of encryption. It doesn't hit me with ETH0: NO CARRIER in big letters, and it doesn't make me jump through invisible hoops to get connected to a wireless network. It's simple, and it just works, like it should. Is this going to be released as THE Kubuntu 8.10? If so, it's going to be a dismal shooting-in-the-foot for Kubuntu's reputation, and will hurt KDE4's as well. Why has Network Manager regressed and devolved? NM 0.6.7's interface just needed some enhancing and refining, but this one is...unbelievable. ** Affects: knetworkmanager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- KDE Network Manager in Intrepid is a huge step backwards! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278386 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to knetworkmanager in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 23603] Re: Windows misbehave when panel is hidden
It's not incomplete anymore as you have answered the last question. Please update this report more often. Why is this set as wishlist? [Bug 99044] Re: KDM does not work if disk is full and gives no warning about it
This MUST be fixed, SOON. I just spent three hours going around in circles, thinking my video card was damaged somehow, or that the hard disk had corrupted some binaries, because every time I tried to log in to KDE with KDM, it simply restarted X! I booted into Windows, Knoppix, Ubuntu 7.10, and Kubuntu 7.04, before somehow I realized that there was no disk space left after I copied a bunch of files last night. The computer was fine last night, but when I turned it on today, I couldn't log in! And there was still 2GB+ of free space reserved for root, but there was no space left for users, so KDE failed to log in and there was no error message of any kind. I looked through every log there is: kdm, kernel, messages, syslog, dmesg, Xorg*, but none of them gave any clue at all. As time goes by, larger and larger files are more and more common, and users will run out of disk space more often. This has got to be fixed. -- KDM does not work if disk is full and gives no warning about it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99044 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug assignee. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 63287] Re: Login screen menu button doesn't look like a menu button
This problem still exists in Hardy. There is no visual clue that the menu button is a clickable button at all, much less an important menu. I recommend a simple Menu with a downward-facing arrow next to it. [Bug 222041] Re: unmounting a usb stick gives a stupid error
Please fix this bug. It makes Kubuntu appear very unprofessional and unpolished. It also needlessly distracts and annoys the user. [Bug 219768] [NEW] Jabber accounts in Kopete constantly disconnect/reconnect
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kopete I have three Jabber accounts in Kopete, one on a dreamhost.com account and two on Gmail/GTalk. All three are constantly disconnecting and reconnecting; they don't stay connected for more than 30-60 seconds. They continuously disconnect/reconnect in sequence; first Account 1, then Account 2, then Account 3, then starting from Account 1 again. This would seem to indicate that it's a problem with the protocol support in Kopete, not a server problem, since they are spread over two different servers. There must be some kind of timeout error, since it happens after the same amount of time, and in the same order. I also have YIM, MSN, ICQ, and AIM accounts in Kopete, and none of them are having this problem, only the Jabber accounts. kopete: Installed: 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: kopete (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Jabber accounts in Kopete constantly disconnect/reconnect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is subscribed to kopete in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
