Yes given this has had many duplicates, has a bunch of CC users and
votes.

Feel free to un-CC yourself, this is expected behavior.

Well that's not true, at least most of the time.
Only devs can make such decisions.

Here I am thankful this was still opened, or I wouldn't have worked on
it.

And the fact you receive emails like "A possibly relevant merge request was 
started" means some work is underway to implement the feature.

It wasn't clear.
I was suggesting it could be built-in (as suggested x-trash), like having a 
checkbox "[x] also hide application/x-trash files when hiding files".

A built-in mime-type has the advantage of being easier to implement and less 
complexity exposed to the user.
Since the mimetype extension association is editable by users, power users will 
be able to leverage it, although less easily than if it was in the config UI 
directly.
