it seems that in this file there are several mistakes/typos.

It would be appropriate review it and reload, before translating it.

Currently I'm inserting a comment (in my local file) for each typo I

I can reproduce. Searching for Empty in this string

returns a lot of references, but only blank fields, even if similarity

But if you clone the translation (or I guess accept it), then the
suggestion is transferred to the translation field.

Would you open a bug on Weblate github?

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Weblate upgraded to 4.15.2

During FOSDEM I got a chance to talk to the weblate developers and now
have an explanation for that - from Weblate POV that is not a single
action, but you accept the translation, and then edit it. Weblate adds
the string to the list of strings that needs to be updated in git and
puts that into the update queue, but since the same string gets
modified, the change needs to be flushed out to disk (git commit)
immediately so that state isn't just discarded, so the waiting time is
due to the time needed for the git commit (waiting until nothing else
writes to git, acquire the lock, do the actual git commit). (In our
setup we have it set to squash changes when pushing to the
repositories, so the individual commits won't show up in our
repository as individual changes)

So long for the explanation - but there also is an easy fix to improve
that situation: Instead of waiting until you submit your edited string
(and weblate realizing that the string already has a pending change),
the commit can be triggered as soon as you hit the accept and edit
button. So during the time it takes you to edit the string and hit
save, the commit is already done, and you probably won't notice the
difference between regular updates and the accept-and-edit suggestion
case. So should be fixed in one of the next releases.

Hi Christian

thank you very much for the (long) explanation! :)

Hi Sophie

I can confirm there are problems in logging in Weblate.

I cannot log in and I see only Languages > German. I also see "Anonimous" as
profile.

Hi Sophi

As far as I remember, we are experiencing this problem since, at least, the
last 3 sessions
of translation. I received another feedback form the developer.

Here it is:
"You can also ask them for upgrade, it might address some issues as well ;-).
There were
several performance improvements to labels or variants in case you happen to
use these."

Hi Sophie

thanks for this report. For us, all issues are worthy of interest.

However, I opened a new issue for a slowness experimented by our team during
the
suggestion's editing, which caused delay in our workflow:

https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/issues/7300[1]

but one of the administrators replied to us to check the server's log in order
to verify the
issue. So, I ask to you to check if this is an issue of TDF Installation or a
program's bug.

[libreoffice-l10n] Weblate slowness when (editing and) saving a suggestion

2022-01-23 Thread Valter Mura
Hi All

during the review of the suggestions left by our collaborators, we noticed
that if we click the "Accept" button, the interface responds quickly and go to
the next suggestion; if we click the "Accept and edit" button (pen-like icon),
add the suggested string to the target field and then click the Save button,
after having, *or not*, modified it, the response time for the Save command is
very slow.

Could you please check? This is a big problem while working online, the time
is short. :)

Hi Sophie

the link inserted isn't correct, it leads to an empty page because a slash (/)
is missing between Localizzazione and Guida_di_stile_del_progetto

So, the correct URL should be:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/IT/Localizzazione/
Guida_di_stile_del_progetto

Could you please check?

Hi, AFAIK, my suggestion is to work offline with a cat tool, downloading all
the packets and creating a TM, in order to use it for suggestion for the new
strings.
This is what I'd do.

Hi Sophie

the only workaround I found is to "work" the suggestions in Master, in order
to spread them to 7.0, but IMHO this should not be the correct procedure.

It should work in this way. But unfortunately, as we are working "online", the
suggestions were not copied/moved to 7.0, so we have to re-check all strings
with suggestions "by hand".

Does anybody know a procedure to copy them automatically?

Hi

I can confirm that Ctrl+comma and Ctrl+Shift+comma works for Calc in Italian

BTW, checks done and the shortcuts doesn't work for Italian. We use the key ','

Of course %MOD1 is for Alt, isn't it?

Hi,

Italian keyboard layout contains only a "comma" key which can be switched to
semicolon

Isn't a panel the full sidebar including all tabs with decks / views / ...?

I mean Panel as a "part of a Window". The word Deck is correct, but, in
Italian, we cannot use Deck with the same meaning we generally use
(nautical/aerial filed). The correct translation is "plancia" /
"console", but inside the program the translation sounds no good.

Of course, the intention is correct, because we have a "Deck with
commands", it's not a simple panel (text area, list, etc).

That's whay in Italian we translated "Sidebar Deck" > "Barra laterale",
which we know it is not the exact meaning but it is clear to understand
to *all* users.

Thoughts from localisers?

I think "view" would create more problems than it solves, as it is way
more

abstract word than "deck" and besides that, already used in several other
places, esp. in Impress.

Agree, "view" is too generic and perhaps applies more to the content,
not the application.

Another problem with "deck"; in many languages it originally has origins
in boats/ships/sailing (close to "cover" and "flooring"), and has
*horizontal* properties - usually not upright.
But that is of course question for each translator to evaluate, English
may have other finesses...

Could be an issue of my system and LibreOffice version? Or are they
hard-coded?

My LibreOffice version is 6.3.4.2, Build ID: 1:6.3.4-0ubuntu0.18.04.1~lo2

Sharing forces is very important. Also Weblate seems to be a very good

But I wonder, and this is OT: what about sharing or adding forces to
develop and maintain Pootle? Could Pootle be integrated in the TDF

I'm checking the app and seem to work well. But I need to

2- Where can I download TMX files, separate per single and/or whole project?

3- If I click on the Translation Memory link, I cannot see anything in
the below area. Maybe has it still to be uploaded?

4- Some problems with the localization of the program (Example: "Nearby
strings" is translated in Italian to "Stringhe simili", which is not
correct and is misleading, you can think that it is referring to similar
strings, but actually it is referring to "neighbor" strings inside the
package. Better "Stringhe vicine" or "Stringhe confinanti"). Please
check your localization. I'll try to contact the responsible for the
Italian localization.

[libreoffice-l10n] Pootle - Specifications in strings' comments

2018-12-29 Thread Valter Mura

Hi All,

for some strings I cannot see the type of word used: noun, proper noun,
action/verb, etc, in the comment field. This would help to avoid
misunderstandings.

Example:

'Draw' can be translated in Italian (this is my action area) in
different ways - a verb (Disegnare); a proper noun (Draw)

'Group': a noun (Gruppo) or a verb (Raggruppare)?

It should be useful if these indications were inserted in the comment
field (action, noun, proper noun)

the UI and the Help:

Just as little example:

In Help/Shared/00.po, comment rAJCr, I find the string: "Choose
Modify - Distribution ($[officename] Draw)."

But if I search in the UI (Draw) I find: (menu) Shape > Distribution
(and not menu Modify)

Am I wrong? Could you pls check and let us know? I suppose this is
not the only occurrence.

If needed, I could open a bug.

Ciao

Hi Adolfo, All,

Thanks for the infos.

But I have a little doubt: During our work on the 6.1 version we realize
we made an error/typo, etc, if we correct it, does the correction
populate also the Master side?

I suppose it will not, so shouldn't it better to "create" the Master
after finishing the 6.1 work, and then take this as basis?

[libreoffice-l10n] Typo in Pootle LibreOffice 6.1 Help - scalc/01.po ?

- in context - func_minifs.xhp\n par_id15342189586295\n help.text

it reads "pen":

Calculates the minimum of values of the range C2:C6 that correspond to
all cells of the A2:A6 range starting with "pen" and to all cells of the
B2:B6 range except its minimum. Returns 180.

- and in context - func_minifs.xhp\n par_id30574750215839\n help.text

it reads again "book":

If E2 = "book", the function returns 180, because the reference to the

Can we safely change "pen" > "book"?

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Fixing new spell out numbering styles in LibreOffice 6.1

2018-05-06 Thread Valter Mura

Il 03/05/2018 18:57, Németh László ha scritto:

Hi,

LibreOffice 6.1 will support “spell out” numbering styles of OOXML (One,
Two...; First, Second..., 1st, 2nd...),
as you can see in the following screen cast (only English, French and
German examples):

  https://youtu.be/c0j4Sjie8t4

Hi Laszlo, All

My questions to the native language speakers:

1. Are these numbers correct in your language?

You can check here, too: https://numbertext.github.io/
index.html#testimonials

For Italian, from 1 to 10 there is a '$1' before the name of the number
which is not correct.
Also, we need to check all variants, I noticed some missed letter
(double l) in some ordinals

Are the ordinals generated automatically?

2. Do we need to change the default format etc. according to the normal
usage of your country/language variant?

For Italian, the default format is ok.

For example, in the recent implementation, British English and American
English differ with the “and”

101 -> “One hundred and one”: en-AU, en-GB, en-IE, en-NZ
101 -> “One hundred one”: en-US etc.

3. Is it enough to support only a single gender in Spanish etc. languages
to cover common outline and page number usage in publishing?

Book/Part/Chapter/Section/Page/Paragraph One, or simply One (normal usage
in English outline numbering)
First Book/Part/Chapter/Section/Page/Paragraph (less common in English, but
default numbering styles cover this, too)

For Italian, if we consider a simple sorting, we can use only one gender
(male), but if we refer to all types, we need the two ones, male and female:

Book = Libro, male
Part = Parte, female
Chapter = Capitolo, male
Section = Sezione, female
Page = Pagina, female
Paragraph = Paragrafo, male

(Note: This is the standard and present translation. There was a
discussion in our list concerning a different translation for the types
above, not important here.)

Note: there is a plan to use similar spell out formats in currency and date
formats of Writer, typical in contracts and invoices in several
languages. These formats are only supported in Calc yet by the NUMBERTEXT
Calc extension (or also in Writer macros via the new
com.sun.star.linguistic2.NumberText
service).

Hi,

are you working on Pootle? I cannot see neither LO 6.0 nor LO Master...

1) "Lock file is corrupted"
"The lock file is corrupted and probably empty. Opening the document
read-only and closing it again removes the corrupted lock file."

Is this about the "locked file" or about "the lock of a file"? Is the lock
corrupt (probably not "corrupted"?) or is the locked file corrupt? From the
sentence it seems the lock is corrupt and not the file itself.

2) "Spacing to Contents" has been changed to "Padding" in UI and help. Is
there any special reason for this? Is this meant as "Cell Padding" (as in
Microsoft products)?

Thanks, m.

Hi all,

I invite all of you to have a read to that message from Caolan, it's a
discussion, so please share your concerns, your solutions, your views :)

https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice/2017-May/077818.html

For those who translates out of Pootle, msgctxt is to be removed, if you
need them, just tell me how you use it.

Hi Sophie, *,

I read Caolán's mail, and while removing clutter is good, I'm really
worried by this proposed (impending?) removal of msgctxt. Namely, does
removing it mean that e.g. "Left", "Edit", "Number", "Print", "None" etc.
could no longer be translated differently (depending on the string's
precise context) within same module? How "big" would a module be in the
proposed new system anyway? Would all strings in same
toolbar/panel/dialog/menu/etc. be one module, or all strings in same
component, like the whole of Writer?

Hi All

I agree with this point, 'msgtxt' often gives to us useful hints to
translators, especially to those people that translate offline.
Of course, if LibreOffice developers doesn't use it, it should be
unuseful for us.

What I hope for it is the following, look at the example taken by KDE:

#. +> trunk5
#: plugins/generic/skg_advice/skgadviceboardwidget.cpp:40
#, kde-format
msgctxt "Dashboard widget title"
msgid "Advices"
msgstr "Suggerimenti"

#. +> trunk5
#: plugins/generic/skg_advice/skgadviceboardwidget.cpp:57
#, kde-format
msgctxt "Noun, a user action"
msgid "Activate all advice"
msgstr "Attiva tutti i suggerimenti"

This is very useful for us :)

If answer to my first question is yes, then it would affect the more
inflected languages quite badly - and very, very badly if the answer to my
second question is anything that encompasses more than one single toolbar,
or one single panel, or dialog, or menu. The exact maximum size of one
module will vary by language.

Also, would removing msgctxt really only affect those of us who translate
offline? Doesn't Pootle distinguish strings based on that as well?

In any case, as has been said time and time again: especially for short
strings (one or two words), each and every appearance of the string HAS TO
BE independently translatable, no matter if the string is same in English -
consider these for example:
"Number" - is it noun or verb?
"None" - which gender, number, case, etc. does it have?
"Open/Save/Print" - is it dialog title or the button?

These are just a few most basic examples off the top of my head. There are
many, many more such strings out there in the Estonian translation alone -
and Estonian doesn't even have the grammatical gender distinction that e.g.
the Slavic languages have. Ask translators of e.g. Slovenian, Bulgarian,
Polish or Russian how many times they have had to fight in various
projects for splitting strings that are identical in English, but need e.g.
different gender forms in translation.

Anyway, since you asked especially for offline usecases, here's mine: when
updating the translation after several thousands of words go fuzzy after
each major release, I use msgctxt to quickly identify the (basic) context
of the string - is it dialog title, label, menuitem with/without context,
etc. - and match it to suitable TM suggestion. If the location of the
string remains unclear from msgctxt, or if it's a new feature, I go find
the actual location based on Key-ID. If I'd have to find every last one of
the fuzzies via Key-ID, translating LibreOffice would take a lot more time
and effort, and cause way lot more frustration.

Best regards,
Mihkel
Estonian team

[libreoffice-l10n] Probable typo in Writer Help Master, Pootle

2017-01-08 Thread Valter Mura

Hi All

Comment. RusE9
File: protection.xhp
Context: protection.xhp\n par_id18112016345678\n help.text

Now it reads:

If the protection *has no a password*, uncheck the Protect
under

the Write protection.

Better: has no password / has not a password / is without password
