question was not editable. However, after switching the branch to “main”
I can indeed edit and commit it.

yes, there are some exceptions where the default set is not completely
applied. Mostly where the older localization is still correct and
(somehow) up to date. And when there is nobody who could help with
translation like for "ja" and "ko".

It seems that the best organization to the pages is https://

www.openoffice.org /ABC/ rather than what some translations have done,

ie

the FR has links such as https:// www.openoffice.org/Participer<
http://www.openoffice.org/Participer>

Like said before please use and apply only the default set you can find
in the "xx" folder. All others are old.

I have done my initial investigation using the site Website Links Count

coming from their respective pages.

The source is in the "xx" default set.

I will just need the link to the source, but I assume I can just

inspect

the en-US page and copy-paste to create the translations...

This will actually be quite a simple task to complete. Thank God.

To start with I can do the 'MAIN PAGE' and the 'DOWNLOADS PAGE'

OK, maybe it was not clear enough what the default set is. Please let me
explain:

../xx/index.html
../xx/brand.md
../xx/topnav.md
../xx/download/*
../xx/extensions/*
../xx/java/*
../xx/participate/*
../xx/product/*
../xx/social/*
../xx/support/*
../xx/why*/

Everything else is very like not up to date. Therefore translating it
doesn't make sense. ;-)

I hope it's now more clear. If not just give me a mail.

Hi all,

on the dev@ mailing list we have discussed to change a wording on the
following webpage:

https://www.openoffice.org/product/index.html#why-apache-openoffice

When you have localized this webpage into your language, then please
change the wording also in your language.

The affected paragraph is:

"
Apache OpenOffice is easy to use:

- The software looks and feels familiar and is instantly usable by
anyone who has used a competitive product
- It's easy to change to Apache OpenOffice - the software reads all
major competitors' files
- Few language barriers - if it's not yet available in your language,
the chances are it will be soon
- Apache OpenOffice is supported by a global community of friendly
volunteers, happy to provide assistance to newcomers and advanced
users alike

"

The following wording is affected:

old - "reads all major competitors' files"
new - "reads most file types of major competitors"

Thanks for your attention.

When you need some help, don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Translations for AOO 4.2.0-Dev2

2020-05-19 Thread Aivaras Stepukonis

Hi Matthias,

I went through the following steps:

1. Installed a clean copy of 4.1.7 LT containing the legacy dictionaries;

2. Upgraded to 4.1.8 LT containing the new dictionaries.

As expected, the end result was the legacy and new dictionary extensions
sitting side-by-side on the same installation.

Let's address this in the Release Notes:

A new edition of the Lithuanian Spellcheck and Hyphenation Dictionaries
(Spelling dictionary for Lithuanian language 1.0.45
<https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/lithuanian-spellcheck-and-hyphenation-dictionaries-current>
(Hunspell 1.3.2+ compatible) by Vytautas Magnus University) has been
added to the Lithuanian version of AOO 4.1.8. As a result, users who
have upgraded to AOO 4.1.8 from older Lithuanian versions will need to
uninstall manually the legacy Lithuanian dictionary (Lithuanian spelling
dictionary 1.3 by Albertas Agejevas and contributors) via Tools >
Extension Manager…

Once 4.1.8 is out, I'll include the same note in the version
announcement on the LT webpage.

No ETA at the moment. There are still some blockers to be solved...

The reason I'm asking is I'm likely to use this upgrade as an
opportunity to switch to new LT spellcheck and hyphenation
dictionaries which have been in the works by a third party for
some
time now.

To achieve this, the LT version would have to be un-bundled

and re-bundled with the new ones which I would publish as a

I need some time to collect the dictionaries from the third party

The reason I'm asking is I'm likely to use this upgrade as an

Would that make the dictionaries incompatible with 4.1.x? If
not, we
could make the switch already with 4.1.8.

Re: Translations for AOO 4.2.0-Dev2

2020-05-15 Thread Aivaras Stepukonis

Hi Matthias,

Thanks for publishing the LT dictionaries! I can run a test to see what
happens when  a 4.1.7 installation with the legacy dictionaries is
updated to a 4.1.8 built with the new dictionaries. Is the current built
of AOO LT 4.1.8 already bundled with the new dictionaries? If so, where
can I access it?

Hi Aivaras,

I have now published the LT dictionary:

Thinking about it, someone updating an older version of AOO to the (not
yet released) 4.1.8 might end up with two dictionaries installed? If so,
we should mention that in the Release notes.

Wrong e-mail address on extensions website

2020-05-13 Thread Aivaras Stepukonis

Hi,

Adding content on the extensions website presents the contributor with
the following notice:

This extension is currently not published. Please contact the system
administrator at nore...@extensions.openoffice.org to have it
published, including a link to this page.

The "noreply" in the e-mail address looked fishy to me to begin with but
I went on shooting an e-mail to the administrator regardless.

I day or so later, the e-mail bounced back as undelivered. My initial
suspicion seems to have been correct: the e-mail address in the notice
has to be changed.

Re: Website – Download – Git hash

2020-02-21 Thread Aivaras Stepukonis

Marcus,

Thanks for the explanation!

Ideally, "hash" should be translated as it is what it is: a common
English noun in what is otherwise a page in another language. In fact,
"hash" is already used /and/ translated on the same page in the ensuing
two lines ("Signatures and hashes […]"). A visitor who knows what "hash"
means will find instances of it both translated and untranslated on the
same page and will tend to interpret the situation as linguistic
inconsistency and negligence.

Overall, if we cling to the principle of AOO and its website being
subject to localization, technical solutions should ensure the principle
is upheld.

Having said that, it is ultimately a matter of just how much resources
we have and how we allocate them. It's a finite and contingent world.
Marcus, your presence, expertise, and input, very much appreciated!

you can find it here:
.../ooo-site/trunk/content/download/release_matrix.js

As we have changed from SVN to Git recently I've put it there.
Otherwise I need to query which release should be displayed and decide
with a JS logic if "SVN" or "Git" has to be written in tothe light
green box.

I hope it's OK for you to keep this is in English. IMHO the word
"hash" is not too special so that a translation isn't really needed.

BTW:
In German it would be "Prüfsumme" which is much longer and IMHO it
sounds a bit bulky. ;-)

Re: Pootle – Fix critical errors – Accelerators – Please, add Accelerator

2020-02-16 Thread Aivaras Stepukonis
Agreed. In fact, the question is whether we need accelerator keys at all
in the text of a pre-build translation if they get inserted
automatically at a later stage anyway.

The text would be much cleaner without the tilde (breaking words,
impeding spell-checking, and making search more difficult).

building of the program from its source code. That it is actually not
a problem is further attested by the fact that the LT installation
does contain all the accelerators. My question is this: should I do
anything about the critical errors in Pootle or should I just ignore
them?

I think this is a bug in new Pootle. I mean that missing accelerators
shouldn't be marked as critical errors.

From what I've seen Polish translation doesn't contain accelerator in
many cases yet GUI is showing an underline.

So I would rather have the accelerator shown only as a warning in
Pootle. IMHO in most cases adding accelerators is a waste of time (as
I would have to review all translations to add a unique accel and
accels in anything but main menu doesn't really make sense -- there is
just no way you can remember them).

Cheers,

Pootle – Fix critical errors – Accelerators – Please, add Accelerator

2020-02-16 Thread Aivaras Stepukonis
The LT translation does not contain the accelerator mark-up (~). As a
result, Pootle throws 3 250 errors. I was told years ago it's not a
problem since accelerators are automatically inserted during the
building of the program from its source code. That it is actually not a
problem is further attested by the fact that the LT installation does
contain all the accelerators. My question is this: should I do anything
about the critical errors in Pootle or should I just ignore them?

Aivaras

Testing 4.2 LT build

2018-12-08 Thread Aivaras Stepukonis

Hello,

Here are some of my finding during the test of the LT build:

Some phrases under AOO > Show > Toolbars are taken from an older
translation (4.1) and not the current one (4.2).

Case in point:

In the test build of AOO 4.2 LT under AOO > Show > Toolbars, you will
find the phrase "formos žvalgymo" which is outdated. To confirm this, in
Pootle > LT > UI, search for the exact phrase "formos žvalgymo". You
should find no instance thereof. Now search for the exact phrase "Formos
žvalgymas" which is the up-to-date translation for the given string. You
should find one instance. (This is just one example, there more.)

Conclusion: at least in the LT case, the current translation is not
fully reflected in the test build.

I'm only through AOO Writer so far. I'll check the remaining
applications in the upcoming days.

PS: I also noticed that some updated translations do not have the same
number of strings. I quickly juxtaposed DE, LT, PT, EN-GB. LT and PT do
have the same number of strings that is slightly different from either
DE or EN-GB.

For the moment it is very important to check that the new effort led

I put first builds as RPMS for en-US, de and it at

I'm working on the Lithuanian translation offline and keep updating
Pootle every couple of days. I'll try to squeeze in as much work as I
can until the end of August. What happens next? Do I have to open an
issue in Bugzilla? If so, when? September 1st?

Aivaras

2016-08-17 19:57, Andrea Pescetti rašė:
Answering both: the "when" has not been defined yet, but we'll surely
want to release something by late 2106.

There are two options available now (see dev list): a 4.1.3
maintenance release (this would NOT involve translation changes) and a
full 4.2.0 release (this would involve translation changes).

It is also possible that both of them happen.

If you have pending translations in Pootle, end of August seems a good
deadline if you need one. We are still working on the import process
from Pootle into source code and I'd like to make tests with
meaningful data. Of course, if anybody wants to help with the
technical issues related to the import just feel free to volunteer
here I can give more details!

This spellcheck failure was most likely due to the incorrect language
being specified in the downloaded document - for example one of the
variants of English other than your OpenOffice had selected. If it
happens again, note the language specified in the Status Bar (at
screen bottom). If this does not match your installed language, use
/Tools /Language /For all text to change the document language
variant to that you normally use. This will most probably sort out
the problem without need to reinstall OpenOffice.

The reason is that we are using a very old file, which does not
reflect the current website situation. This is why I asked (in the
same mail, which can be confusing I admit) for the 5 pages that still
(in the text) mention 4.1.1 to be changed, and for any additions to
the 12 pages to be reported.

You can find the file (a normal text file) attached to
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126612
You can attach a new version where "lt" points to the right download
page (while at it, you may want to fix the spelling of "Lithuanian" in
the file, and you might want to fix "pt" too as asked by Pedro).

The correct link would be https://www.openoffice.org/pt/download/
I even added it in the release notes page and it's working fine.

This is probably because the old file was written before we had an
updated "pt" site in place. Sure, this can be fixed, even at the same
time when Aivaras fixes the rest.

If you find it confusing, just ask on the issue
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126612 or here and Kay (and,
if needed, me) will surely be available to help.

Thanks Keith for the explanation.

The fix in question was too much removed in time for me to remember it
and make a deliberate request. I remembered it only when I came across
it in 4.1.2. And when I did it was already too late.

Version 4.1.2 is a bug fix release only and not everything that is fixed
in trunk was back-ported to the branch from which 4.1.2 was built. For
that to have happened it would have to have been requested and then
approved as as release blocker for 4.1.2 and it never was requested,
therefore it never was committed to the branch for 4.1.2.

I would have done so had I run earlier into it. Otherwise, there are too

The issue is: we had two parallel development branches. One is the
trunk, which would lead to OpenOffice 4.2.0. For various reasons,
though, we decided to create a 4.1.2 release; all bugs that were fixed
in 4.1.2 were explicitly approved and merged from trunk, so 4.1.2 is
something like "4.1.1 plus many bugfixes that already existed in trunk
and were approved one by one". So only a small part of the trunk fixes
made it to 4.1.2.

When I sent the calls for proposing blocker issues this one should
have been proposed and included.

Now it's a bit early to think about the future, but this should
clarify your doubts: a 4.2.0 release would automatically pick up all
trunk fixes, a 4.1.x release would not.

It actually happened a lot of time ago, back in November:
http://markmail.org/thread/gp4srcxgwozteskj

At that time, we thought that the next version would be 4.2.0; this
is still the long-term plan, but we are now going to release another
update in the 4.1.x series, i.e., 4.1.2, before it. Of course your new
work won't be lost: just it won't appear in 4.1.2 but in later releases.

No, unless you ask for specific fixes (but I mean 2-3 fixes per
language). To state it better, 4.1.2 is a bugfix release and it has no
new strings, so translations should be untouched; we are anyway going
to allow to port a few specific fixes if some really annoying
translation errors are present in 4.1.1.

No. 4.1.2 is closer but we still have some blockers (we do have a list
of bugfixes already done in trunk, but we still need work on digital
signatures -this will be the first Apache OpenOffice release coming
with a digital signature readily accepted by Windows systems- and on
release management in general, since Juergen asked to be replaced for
at least some of the release management tasks). For 4.2.0 there is
work done on trunk, but it's too early for plans.

I agree, a little more spreading out vertically is beneficial because

Here's a rendering with the increased vertical spacing of the logos

1. No indent of the headlines in the navbar on the right hand side.
2. Less space between last navbar element and the first logo.

I hope thats all.

For #1 I don't care too much. When the majority of us is to change it,
then let's do it.

For #2 I like to see more space between navbar and logo better as both
