[lace] lace card in Germany
Hello Kathy, dear arachneans, as Kathy can guess, I had a very bright day today. In my postbox there was a padded letter which contained your beautiful bobbin lace card and a very nice letter. I enjoy both and it really made my day. The Montessori school, which my two youngest children attend, there was we call an advent market day, which means that one can buy small items the children have made and biscuits they have baked. I took the opportunity to demonstrate bobbin lace making and invited kids and adults to have a go themselves. After the christmas break I will offer a bobbin lace class for the pupils there. So I was really geared into the event by that very pretty card, which I will treasure. BTW mail was really fast. It took only 5 days to get from Oregon, USA to Germany! Thank you very much, Kathy! Greetings from Germany, Martina NB:Kathy, would you please send a pm to my address. I can't find your e-mail address. mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] or mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Both are valid and arrive at my PC. - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Other people have already commented on the Princess part of this question. I saw nothing in the pictures that would say 'princess lace' to me. The figures are bobbin lace, and typical of Cantu inserts. The 3-D parts are very interesting and not so typical. The inserts in the linen section are needlelace. The edge is bobbin lace. The whole thing is beautiful. I would love to just have it close enough to study. I know how long it took me to do four inches square of Cantu. There must have been an army of lacemakers working on this cloth. It must be worth at least $1000. I'll have to watch what it sells for, and just dream. It's way beyond my lace budget. Happy lacing, Alice in Oregon -- very cold and sunny today. It may be of interest to others; certainly to me. Go to the Presidential Library Site in Iowa: http://hoover.archives.gov/ You'll see many options to explore, including all the galleries. Go to gift shop. They have books, but the one I am familiar with about the sacks is not on the list today -- you'll have to write the shop. This Presidential Library presented a full exhibit of the WWI flour sacks about a year ago, and there was a booklet to accompany the exhibit. At the time, it was possible to view the entire exhibit on-line. Maybe you still can, and will be able to print the pictures. I have written extensively about the flour sacks and also about the War Laces in this collection, and all information came from the Library. We (lacemakers) would like to know where your War Laces are housed, and about opportunities to view them. Please tell the museum staff you were referred by a member of Arachne (lacemakers), and identify the desperate "We". They will appreciate having the information about your collection. Re: [lace] Lace Shops in Hamburg
Anne and all, I had the opportunity to go to Germany last year. I had asked in advance about lace and found that there isn't the lace of an American's dreams there. What I did find was that there still exists there old fashion department stores that have craft and sewing departments. What I brought back were fabrics! The Fabrics you can find there are just fantastic, hankies with bonded edges for lace attachment and small table cloths and runners for cross stitch made to go with the books from Rico Design, These are difficult to impossible to find here and are so expensive if you do. Even the books from Rico are cheap there. There is also lots and lots of machine made lace that is of a quality and beauty we do not see. Table runners, Christmas star center pieces, curtains, and much much more. I found stores that sold nothing but this kind of lace. I had one over loaded suit case coming home! And most important, DON'T FORGET THE CHOCOLATE! Re: [lace] Lace Shops in Hamburg
Hello Anne, I am sorry but there is no shop for lacers in HH. All lacers here get their stuff by snail-mail from one of the dealers like Gebriele oder Heikina de Ruyiter or others. And still the laces aren't on display in our museums and at the moment the room with the "Lacemaker" by Liebermann in the Kunsthalle isn't to see because of renovation. Sorry. Does your husband have the chance to come to Ramstein? About 90 km from there is a lady with a lace-things-shop. [lace] War lace - Flour sacks
This is a desperate plea. :-) We're obsessed with finding the flour sacks which were given during World War I as a thank you to president Hoover. As you may (or may not) know, Belgian women used to embroider the flour sacks sent by the Americans as gratitude. They also made lace, now referred to as War Lace. We already have some War Lace items in our collection, but we'd like to find some Flour sacks for our private collection to make it more complete. If we can't find the sacks, maybe someone knows how to get ahold of pictures? I realize getting ahold of the floursacks is practically impossible, so I'd be ecstatic if I could find pictures of these sacks. I already found some on the Hoover/Stanford website (http://hoover.archives.gov/ exhibits/collections/flour%20sacks/page1.html) but I'd like to have bigger pictures. [lace] Lace Guild email problems fixed
The email problems at The Lace Guild have now all been fixed. British Telecom restored the broadband yesterday, and I managed to reestablish email forwarding from specific .org addresses last night. Any email to the latter which was sent within about the last four days should now have been received (it would have been queuing); any sent before then should have bounced back to the sender. Check if you are unsure, but make it clear that you are making a duplicate enquiry/order etc. All should be OK now for the entries to the Advent Calendar competition (when it's mounted at the end of the month) which are actually e-mailed from the website.
