[lace] Re: Beginner's Lace Class
I have to agree. If you can buy rug padding (the fiberous kind, not the squished bits of foam), it's usually pretty cheap. Not easy to cut up, but worth it. You can cut stips and roll them around a dowel. A single layer of wool blanket makes a very good roller or mini-bolster. If your class is multi-session, the first session can be for everyone to make their own from supplies they buy for you. That'd cut down on the work you have to do to prepare for class. For bobbins, there are some pretty cheap ones--plastic or very basic wood midlands that they can spangle themselves. SOme people have used nails for bobbins, but the wood or plastic are definitely superior. Robin P. [lace] Needle tatting question
Tonight we had a visit from a needle tatter at my lace group. He does beautiful fine needle lace and he was told that you can convert any shuttle pattern into a needle lace pattern but he does not know how to do that for a pattern that uses two shuttles. Can anyone answer that question or point him in the right direction to get the question answered. He knows how to do split rings with his needle tatting and most other techniques but my experience is limited to shuttle tatting. I will forward the answers, if any, to him. [lace] Arachne pin and Commemoratives
I too think JoAnne said she wasn't going to do commemoratives this year, and left it open for anyone else to step in. There are quite a few of us who love to get their yearly commemorative Arachne bobbin (or two). I do hope some bobbin maker will step in and offer to design and make them. For me, it doesn't matter if there are no "extras" like cover cloths and bobbin rolls, etc., but I really would like my 2007 bobbin. And incidentally, if anyone has one of the original year bobbins they would like to part with, could they contact me please? I missed out on that one Noelene in Cooma [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Also, I don't think she was planning to distribute the commemoratives > this year. [lace] Help for Prospective Lacemaker in Tenbury
Hi Everyone While at work today I met someone who lives and works in Tenbury Wells at the "join" of Worcestershire & Shropshire UK. She wants to start making lace. I'm compiling a list of links for her ( UK Lace Guild, suppliers etc.) but does anyone know of a lacemaker who lives nearby a local class or group? Please e-mail me with a contact name or nuimber that I can pass on, or that you think might be ok & I'll check with them before passsing on their details. [lace] Arachne pin looks like..
--- purple lacer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > What does the "Arachne pin" look like? The Arachne pin is a rectangle about 22mm x 24mm that has a red circle filling most of it and the words lace@arachne.com across the bottom. The background is dark blue. On the red circle is a spider web and spider in gold with the spider's body in black. The words and edge outline are also gold. I also remember JoAnn saying that she would not be in charge of commemoratives this year, but I don't think anyone else volunteered. I haven't heard anything about it since. [lace] Re: Arachne pin
What does the "Arachne pin" look like? I have an "@" pin that sometimes is used by people online to identify themselves to each other. I think perhaps it was a group of needlework stitchers that use this pin which was why I got mine. I'm pretty sure I did not get it from JoAnne. Lacy Susan had some cute lace pins at the 2005 IOLI convention. I got a couple from her. I know that she hasn't had any pins in recent years since I've known her. Also, I don't think she was planning to distribute the commemoratives this year. I could be wrong on that account, but that was the impression I got from her at one time. That's coming from your ISP, not from Arachne. I would call your tech support people as soon as possible. Re: [lace] Re: Beginner's Lace Class
Hello Tamara, where can I get those Paula Harten's patterns? Tonight is the 2nd night of my new bobbin lace class. Last week 3 ladies attended: one does the 4th course, one the 2nd and a newbe. The 2 more advanced ladies decided they wanted to start an edging lace to be sewn onto a blouse or traditional German dress (Dirndl). So I am always looking for beginners and easy patterns. Thank you! "Countersigned with both hands" as we used to say in Poland:) I couldn't agree more; on top of all the learning problems they might encounter, lousy equipment is not something they need. For small but interesting teaching patterns (in addition to Bev's pillowless-plait), I highly recommend Paula Harten's series of patterns for teaching children (she's just added two more -- very exciting -- ones to the ones previously published in the IOLI Bulletin). Each is simple, each is quick, and each can be taken home as a finished project. -- Tamara P Duvallhttp://t-n-lace.net/ Lexington, Virginia, USA (Formerly of Warsaw, Poland) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Spiders... I'd be interested in purchasing a pin or a bobbin if they are available!! Anything which promotes lacemaking is a brilliant idea as far as I am concerned!! Busy doing another sample for my folder, gimp in it this time!! Just have to keep trying to remember what I did with the gimp so it doesn't look stupid!! One day it will all come naturally, a bit like swimming, riding a bike or driving!! (But not cookery!!!) [lace] Beginner's Lace class
There's a simple, but versatile pattern called "Flowers, Flames and Fantasy" in the 'Young Lacemakers' section of the UK Lace Guild web site: http://www.laceguild.demon.co.uk/ In addition to a slide show of the design used as a flower, flames, what seem to me to be strewn autumn leaves, an abstract bouquet, earrings and decorating the neckline of a dress or top, there is the pattern, instructions, suggestions for working and the techniques of winding bobbins, basic stitches and how to add beads.
