Re: [lace] Old question about old tree pattern
hello spiders In case anyone is interested, I have a redrafted version with a less complex route for the trunk, another version has a more squeezed shape. Somewhere I've seen a smaller version with a variation on the fans, but I didn't save the link. Some examples to work with colour: http://www.xs4all.nl/~falkink/groene-hart/plakboek/03_20jaar/index.htm look also on the left under het bos (the wood) Jo I had saved this pattern in a Word file. So if you can open Word documents here it is. I know this was asked in the past, and I've tried the archives, but I'm wondering if anyone has a copy of the free Old Tree pattern by Lenka. - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace] German web site 3
Just got DH to try opening the American version of the site on his laptop - slightly higher spec Sony laptop, but lesser version of Internet Explorer - and it opened without any trouble. I'll have a look at it later when he's finished emailing his women (email friends mainly in the US). [lace] RE: Catalan Lace Day 2008(was RE: lace-digest V2007 #148)
Thanks for your reply Jenny - so I can start hoping again? Maybe it is the Town Council, then, that has had changes in it's system? From what I have been told by those who have been, Camarinas is a very small seaside town - and that is part of the attraction of this fair. Also, last April, I would have been willing to come as a spectator, but there was no accommodation available (or so I was told). But anyway, maybe I will be luckier this time. I would need to know as early as possible (hopefully around November / December) if there is to be the fair because about four of us wish to travel up for it, but will have to book our flights around then to be able to get good prices on tickets. When I tried to book only about three weeks before the fair, around March, I was quoted prices of around 3000 euros! Please do keep me informed if you get to know anything. Who knows, maybe the headmaster of the Gozo school of art misunderstood everything due to the language barrier! Apparently there has been a change in local government of Catalunya (i.e. the equivalent of their local council) and the fair may not be held any more. HI Karen, This is news to me and I live in Catalunya. I have heard nothing about the annual lace day not being held next year but will try to find out. I expect Carolina will know something about it and might respond to the list on the subject. The Catalan Government is just that, a Government and not the local council. Catalunya has an autonomous government, with it's own laws and police force, amongst other things peculiar to Catalunya. Quite a lot different to a Local Council and the powers that a local council has. I might be wrong but as far as I know the Catalan government doesn't organise the event it is organised between the Association of Lacemakers of Catalunya and the Town Council of the town which has agreed to hold the event. It may be that the Catalan Government helps with something towards the cost but I haven't heard that it does this. The town holding the event bears the large part of the cost I believe, with those participants who are not members of the Assoc. of Lacemakers of Catalunya paying a few euros each to attend. Members of the Assoc. do not pay as they have already paid their subs. to the Association for the year and the Assoc., contributes something towards the cost out of it's fund, I believe. If it has been decided not to hold the event then it won't be anything to do with the Catalan Government but more likely that no town has put it's name forward to hold the event next year. It is an expensive event to put on for any town and wherever it is held there needs to be a lot of space to seat everyone as you can imagine. If it not held next year it does not necessarily mean it will never be held again, it could be that a town will agree to hold it in 2009, you never can tell. Fingers crossed something will happen next year.It happened once before that no town had come forward saying it was prepared to hold the event, then a town unexpectedly stepped into the gap and held it at the last minute. What a pity you didn't write to me about wanting to come to the event this past April, we had spare seats on our table and could have squeezed you into one of them. You could have come just as a spectator, as Jane knows it is a sight to see. You could have browsed the suppliers stalls, we usually have about 30, sometimes up to 50, suppliers stands which come from all over Spain and a few from Belgium and France too. I will try to find out if it is to be held next year and if it is what the likely place will be and let you know. Unless Carolina posts something in the meantime. So don't give up hope of attending our lace day just yet. Regards Jenny DeAngelis. [lace] Re: Catalan Lace Day 2008(was RE: lace-digest V2007 #148)
Hi Karen, You wrote- Apparently there has been a change in local government of Catalunya (i.e. the equivalent of their local council) and the fair may not be held any more. Sorry but we are speaking of two different events. That event held at Camarinas is a different thing to that held in Catalunya Camarinas is not in the Region of Catalunya where the coast is the Costa Brava. Camarinas is in the region of Galicia on the Costa de Morte. Jane Atkinson visited the Catalan lace day last April and it is that event which I was writing about. Sorry if I confused you but I was under the impression, from the above part of your message, that you were told it was the Catalan Government that said it was not holding the event in the future and it would seem that someone was confusing Camarinas with the Catalunya Perhaps it is the Camarinas Town Council that can't afford to keep putting on the event there, they are expensive things to run. I will keep you posted about the Catalan event for next year as and when I know more. Meantime here is a set of web pages about the lace of Camarinas, the pages can be translated to English via the button at the bottom of the pages. The main page for the Town Council is here http://www.camarinas.net/ on this page you will see a link Encaje click there and it will take you to a page about the lace of this region. Go back to the main page and click on the link Mostra Do Encaixe and it will take you forward to a page of various links, one of is for the 2007 lace day and following you links as you go you can see fotos of different aspects of the event. You can use the link at the bottom of the pages to turn the text to English, as is normal with translation programmes, some of the English is not so correctly translated but you can get the general idea of what is meant. It is a very nice site of the whole area. I too would like to go there one year to the lace event and to stay a few days as a tourist. [lace] website update
Hello one and all Just a brief note to let you know that I have updated my website http://www.brandis.com.au/craft/lace/index.html to include my Stage One Proficiencies for the Australian Lace Guild and June efforts. I have just read the stage two proficiencies and I think it is going to take me a bit of hard work to get it done in the next 9 months so am rethinking it. :-) The garter is finished and I am in the process of pricking a matching hanky edge - will see how I go as to if I get it done in time for the wedding in four weeks. I intend to add more info to the proficiencies page in the hope that someone can learn from my 'variations' (can't say mistakes now can I?) as well as the origin of the prickings in case you want to have a go too. [lace] FW: Paris Lace
Hello lacers, I want to thank all of you for your come back on the Binche, Flanders and Valenciennes lace questions that I had inquired about. Now, I would like to know a bit about Paris lace and how does it compare to Flanders and Binche lace? Does anyone have a site where I can see what it looks like? As always, Thanks! Re: [lace] Re: Catalan Lace Day 2008(was RE: lace-digest V2007 #148)
Hello all spiders, As far as I know there is not any problem with the Annual Lace event in Catalunya. Usually during the general annual meeting of The Catalonian Lacemakers Assn.,which take place in January, it is settled the place where the Lace Day will take place. The decission is taken among the different villages which are interested in hosting and offer their help to organise the Lace Day. I do not think that CamariƱas has given up their Week of Laces, whereas I am going to ask and I shall inform you as soon as I hear anything. Regards. Re: [lace] Do you know this site ?
In a message dated 01/07/2007 16:58:15 GMT Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: http://www.museocaprai.it Many thanks, Tiziana. I don't know if I was doing something wrong but when I went to look at items (it's the Milanese lace I was especially interested in), the description of the item was in Italian, even though I'd asked for English and the main headings were English. Perhaps the details of the site aren't translated. Unfortunately the lace I was interested in was not photographed clearly enough to be able to enlarge it to see details. I'll explore a bit more as there seems to be a lot of lace in there. [lace-chat] lace weights
I agree they're curtain weights[. I keep a very cheap, lightweight fleece jacket (a free gift from a mail order company, so you can imagine the quality) in the boot of my car in case I get the weather wrong and feel chilly and have nothing else with me. It's not much good for anything other than emergencies. It's so light weight that I couldn't feel that I was wearing it so I put a few curtain weights in the hem. I saw the listing, but didn't look at the description. I'd though it was probably the light weights used in machine knitting when knitting lace and hung on the lower edge ofthe knitting.
