[lace] Bundling Bobbins
Good Morning All, I've been following the thread about something needed to bundle bobbins. What I use is some left over squares from an unfinished quilt. The squares are about 5 inches square. I took 4 of the squares and sewed them together down one side in a sort of book format. This gives me three pages where I can place the bobbins which need to put aside. It also lets me keep them in order for when I have to use them again. Depending on the type of bobbins being used, I have had up to 10 pairs in each page for a total of 30 pairs neatly placed out of the way. I use a divider pin placed on the open side of the book to hold the bobbins in so they don't fall out when being moved. I have had up to three of these little books on my pillow at the same time, place on top of each other and had not problems. I'm guessing that several pieces of felt from the craft store would also work. Helene Ulrich Surfside Beach, South Carolina USA - Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! RE: [lace] Re: Bundling bobbins
This has been an interesting thread. I'm puzzled, though. Why would you want to spend so much for what a rubber band would do? And why would you want to bundle your bobbins in a bunch like that anyway -- wouldn't they get very mixed up and result in a lot of wasted time sorting them? I'm just curious. I love the Flemish laces that use a lot of bobbins. If I'm traveling, I use crochet strips or the flat wooden tongue depressor type bobbin holders; if I'm working, I stack the bobbins up in groups on handkerchiefs, napkins, paper towels, what ever is handy. Both methods work, and the bobbins stay organized. And certainly a lot cheaper than this new method we're discussing. So ... what am I missing here? Well, the bands **are** a very pretty color, maybe htat is it? Re: [lace] Card Exchange
Dear Miriam, I hope it was my late card that you have received. I'm so sorry that I may have spoiled you joining another exchange. I did mail them out late due to family emergencies and travels, even though I finished them in the summer. Yours also just arrived on January 5th. It is quite lovely! I can't tat very well and truly appreciate the work you have done. I'm trying to set up a system to show the cards off better next year by placing them all in an altered book. Last year, I also missed receiving a card from a partner. It's still worth it to me to take a chance to keep the beauty of lace circulating. I offered to make two cards but only received one in return and that one arrived this week. Way into the new year. Those things happen and it happened to me for the second time and I doubt that I'll join another exchange. Miriam in Cold Arad, Israel - Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Re: [lace] Bundling Bobbins
Dear Lacemakers, This fabric book appears to be a good solution - but... I'd suggest against felt, because your fine lace threads can pick up fuzz that can get worked into your lace. [lace] RE: ideas for 2008 Card exchange
Clay said making lace should never be something that creates stress in our lives!! Very true So I suggest that next year, we change the deadline. If our cards go out by the middle of November, we'll not only beat the Postal rush (hopefully), but also have one thing out of the way - early! Sounds doable, we just need to remember to start the ball rolling a fortnight earlier too. If a website of the lace is posted, that unveiling could be delayed so that the unveiling is in the height of the season - making it festive and fun. No problems, if you want me to do this years too - I will upload the pages finished on ... say 20th Dec? Rather than the haphazard way it was this year between 15 Dec and 5 Jan?
