Re: [lace] Bobbins with detachable heads
Right, as promised I rummaged through my boxes and found the bobbin with the detachable head that I have and then spent another 20 minutes trying to find the spool of thread that came with it. I've done some shots of it and uploaded them to my website where I'm logging all my bobbins. It's on the unknown makers' page and you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find it. http://thelacebee.weebly.com/unknown-makers.html Because the shots came out rather well I've managed to enlarge the details more than they are on the spool and did a quick search for the maker. There is a very small reference to it in google books and I've put the reference to this as a link on the page. I bought the bobbin from De Denne in Kenton, North West London - long gone from the place it was as the bridge it was on over the railway has even gone and been moved about 20 metres away. Does anyone know what happened to the shop? There was a wonderful needlecraft shop in Pinner that also went about the same time - c. 1993. Kind Regards Liz Baker thelace...@btinternet.com My chronicle of my bobbins can be found at my website: http://thelacebee.weebly.com/ --- On Sun, 20/2/11, The Lace Bee thelace...@btinternet.com wrote: From: The Lace Bee thelace...@btinternet.com Subject: Re: [lace] Bobbins with detachable heads To: lace@arachne.com, Brian Lemin brid...@bigpond.com Date: Sunday, 20 February, 2011, 23:03 I'll have a rummage, at the weekend, and see if I can't find the spool and the bobbin. [lace] re: Orenburg lace advice needed (re-send)
I sent two messages on Friday but they haven't appeared in the lace digests. I thought I'd better send the gist of them again. Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2011 21:38:46 + Dear Bev, Thank you for this, and the photo as well. While the latter is better than the photo I have, it is still not really good enough to show me the construction of the stitches. However, the text is exactly what I was searching for. Just working from left to right is different to my way of thinking, and the result is very much better than anything I've achieved so far. However, it seems to leave a ridge at the back - and of course, using the back of the slipped stitch gives a ridge at the front. Yet the work is supposed to be reversible. Sue said she used the whole loop, so at the moment I'm trying out short sections of every combination I can think of along the slipped stitch edge. Then I will decide which one I like best! Thanks again, Jane Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2011 21:44:04 + Dear Sue, Your pick-up puts mine in the shade, but hopefully you only have to do yours once :-) . Bev has given me the instructions from one of the Orenburg books, yours sound slightly different, so I'm trying them all, working short sections along the the slipped stitch edge to see what looks the best. Thank you very much for your help, and good luck with your shawl. Jane Sun, 27 Feb 2011 I'll also add a thank you to Susan Reishus. Jeri Ames also pointed me to the Piecework corrections and I'm relieved to say that the errata is in the section I've not yet reached. A delight yet to come! I now have 6 variations on picking up the slipped stitch edge and keep turning it over and over trying to decide which looks 'best' and most like the slightly blurred photo in the magazine. Thank you for all the help and comments and I hope this message reaches arachne, Jane - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace-chat] N.Z. Great News
Thank you Erika, for the news, we can't imagine what you and N.Z. have all been through, and to read your message this morning, has really brightened my day. I don't come on Lace 'line' very often, but when I heard of the earth quake, it was the first place I turned, to see if any news from Lace makers in N.Z. and how they were coping. There were various messages asking exactly my fears of you and others, and someone also said which I thought summed up Lace people everywhere, what a great extended family we are, the moment of crisis, or the need of help of any kind, we are there for one another around the world, some family, some wonderful people. Kindest regards, Pauline in Somerset (UK) where the sun is breaking through, and snowdrops, lilac and purple crocus are in bloom, and my forsythia is turning more golden daily as the flowers burst open, and new green buds just waiting to unfurl. Birds are feeding and nest building, so Spring is almost here. Making me feel so much better as I have been quite ill for a couple of weeks, and my DH is away:( To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat y...@address.here.
