Gorgeous works! I'm so tempted, although I can't make myself spend USD 95 for
a pair of earrings. THanks for the URL.

The amulet bag I fell in love with all those years ago was lacier than this
artist's work.

[lace] pillow question

2012-10-09 Thread Jean Nathan
As far as I understand, the Honiton Lace Shop in the High Street closed
several years ago, even though the web pages are still up. It changed from
being purely a shop to include a restaurant in 2003 with visits to the lace
shop by appointment only. The mail order side of the business continued. It
then closed and another business opened up at another location in Honiton
(some mention of 'The Barn' as the address), but is more of an antique
business than a lace shop.

Jonathan Page, the owner, explained on Arachne what was happening in 2003.
If anyone knows what the current situation is (probably someone who has
visited Honiton recently), can they please tell us what the position is.

[lace] lace display in PA

2012-10-09 Thread hottleco
Hello All! I completely forgot to post this earlier. :-( My friend Chris is
the featured artist at the Deer Creek Winery in Grove City, PA during the month
of Oct. The winery is located at 216A South Broad in Old Towne (Grove City).
The opening event was last week & she made a lovely pattern--St. Catherine--to
be worked in torchon or 'sGravenmoer. Lots of folks visit Grove City Outlets
at this time of year (shop 'til you drop!) & the town itself is only 5 miles
east of the outlets & I-79. So if you're in the area, please support your
local lacemaker! Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA USA

Re: [lace] webshots

2012-10-09 Thread Sue Babbs

Thank you Clay for being wiling to do this. That is very generous of you

In my opinion, SMILE sounds like a sensible thing to try out for the time
being. By the time Clay reaches senility (if she ever does, and, whatever
she says, she is one of the most capable people I know) I'm sure someone
else will be prepared to take it on - or there will be some better/
different options out there anyway.

As there's a free trial period, it sounds as if there's no loss in trying it
out, and seeing if all our separate folders upload.

If we need to move to a new site, it would probably be best if those of us
who have uploaded photos, uploaded them to a new site, rather than going to
the effort of downloading and moving them. I know some of mine have been up
there for years, and don't need to be there any more, as far as I'm
concerned. Maybe I should go to the effort of uploading more recent work,
as I realise now that I haven't put any of that on for ages

RE: [lace] macrame

2012-10-09 Thread Diane Z
Re " I'd also like to draw your attention to "Le Macrame" by Th. de Dillmont.
THe book is from 1922 and is on the Professor's site.

Robin, could you give me the actual website to find this book? I've spent 1/2
hour trying to find it on the Arizona site -- to no avail. At some point I did
find the google search area, but also it was quite indirect to find this book.

I took the macramé class at the Greek OIDFA and still have the last piece to
complete -- so I thought this book would help.

Of course if someone else could direct me to a book, I would be very grateful
since I'm really trying to finish projects!

I don't have that
URL at my figertips either. The book does have two "sculptural" flowers
but the rest are borders or insertions - just incredibly gorgeous things!!
It's in French but the diagrams look pretty good for non-French readers
like me. The variety is amazing and the combinations seem endless.

There are some great new booklets on macrame (mostly in Italian), with gorgeous
lacy edgings and sometimes medallions. I've been looking into this since the
mid-90s, when I saw an amulet bag in macrame, made with (probably 8 or 12)
pearl cotton.

Then there's the book that will soon (I hope!) be published by Marji Suhm on
Greek fingerlace. It's a Greek version of macrame-type lace.

Re: [lace] webshots

2012-10-09 Thread Clay Blackwell
I'm still willing to do this. I'm depending on lots of savvy people out there
to look at this critically and determine whether it will work. Fortunately, we
can have a free trial period to see how it does, but if we don't like it, we
will probably lose all of those pictures (downloading does seem to be an
option, but it would be time consuming.)

Another issue to be taken into account is whether the account can be
transferred at a later date... If, for some reason (senility comes to mind -
and sometimes I think I'm there already!) I can no longer maintain it.

Re: [lace] Clock panic over

2012-10-09 Thread Sue
My best advice to anyone doing this is find and buy the suitable clock
first, make sure it is right for the job and then source the pattern.
My initial intention was to buy one like the image on the front of Alex
Stillwells geometric lace and work a piece of bucks point lace but I
couldn't get the info from the supplier so it never happened so when I saw
this other one I was pleased and grabbed at the opportunity without
realising there was no glass underneath the plastic.
It proved difficult to find a big enough circular pattern of lace but I did
eventually find one pattern which is only one or two sessions of lacemaking
and then some sewings in to complete it. I am getting quite excited now,
and looking forward to taking all the cover cloths off it and seeing it
all together.
Susie, there is a lamp shade pattern in the Modern Lace designs of Veronica
Sorenson.

Hello to One and All!

I'm so looking forward to seeing this piece. On my
list of many things to do...I was contemplating making a lace clock for my
studio. In addition to a lace lamp shade for my bedroom.
Hugs,

Susie Rose

Another update on the clock
face and frame saga. The offending piece is going back to the seller and
we
purchased another clock today which looks idea for the job. Glass front,
deep
enough to take lace and hands inside and nice and elegant overal. Will
take

photos when it is all complete. The lace is coming on well and should be
finished by the end of this week i think.
