Re: [lace] Storms in UK and Europe!

We in my part of Wales got off very lightly considering what was expected.
The storm's path remained on the English side of the Severn Estuary (aka
Bristol Channel) and we were deluged (nothing new there!) rather than blown to
bits. According to our local news the main problem was flooded roads and I
imagine some trees may have come down simply because we had a prolonged period
of high winds on Saturday and during daylight hours on Sunday and the ground
was already sodden.

Southern England suffered the most and no doubt people from that area will
tell of their experiences. Even there the event was less serious than the
hurricane of 1987.

Dear spiders!

I am so concerned about all of my friends in the UK and Europe who are
experiencing the storms! These are so similar to the storms we had last year,
and they were devastating!

So, please keep us posted as you get past the worst of the storms, and as you
learn of others who were not so fortunate, let our list know.

We're in North Kent but we got away lightly this time with no structural damage
and no power cuts, just a bit of debris around the garden. The worst for us
was about 8-9am.

It's machine made, but not Barmen machine which has threads moving almost
exactly as they might in torchon BL. It looks much more like Leavers machine,
and "bobbin fining" Leavers lace to be exact - Pat Earnshaw 'Lace Machines and
Machine Laces" pages 142, 143. It is the way the 'cloth' stitch is formed
which identifies this.

I have just looked on the web to find something similar and came up with this
gem from the V&A.
http://www.dressandtextilespecialists.org.uk/Lace%20Booklet.pdf
scroll down to page 26 and you'll see thread diagrams as to how the funny cloth
stitch is made.

I to do not know if I can make to CA. next year but I hoping to make to15. But
I do like the idea of just meeting in an area for a get together. Does it have
to be at lunch. Why not a cocktail hour in the evening.

I am making a piece of lace and have been using a box of pins labeled
"Unplated Brass Pins, 29 mm x .86, 100 grams." I would dearly love to get
another box or maybe even several boxes of these as I am now scavenging them
from the beginning of the piece which I think will have a deleterious effect.
Does anyone know of a US supplier?
