[lace] Forget me not flower

2015-05-08 Thread sueat
I have been asked to make a forget me not in bobbin lace and so far I
haven’t found one specifically labelled that in either of the two books I
have that I can lay my hands on at the moment. I need to hunt for the other
one and haven’t yet had enough time to do that. I have the idea of the
petal shape even if not actually mentioned as that but the images I have seen
of the flowers themselves seem to show a ten point white star shape in the
centre before the lump thing (not very technical and my memory is not finding
the word I need, so sorry).Has anyone seen the right sort of shapes in any
of the lace books to help my search please.
Thank you for any help in advance.

[lace] re Forget me not flower

2015-05-08 Thread sueat
Thank you for all the picture images of the flower which I had already found
in images, but what I am needing now is to locate a pattern to make a free
standing on to add to my collection, and maybe go inside the glass dome. I
haven't found the missing book yet as I have been soaking in the bath:-)
We were shown an item on the local news recently where a west country
hospice (in the UK) had commissioned the same company to make some forget me
not flowers who created that fabulous display around the tower of london but
no where near the same numbers. A very pretty display over the next month
but I have been asked to make one in Bobbin Lace in memory of a special
lady.
All or almost all the pictures people sent me show what looks like a white
star in the middle and I am not sure if it is artistic license, or a lighter
shade on the lower outside edges of the petals. I dont think I have ever
been close to them as a flower and only in picture form.

[lace] Forget me not pattern.

2015-05-08 Thread Witchy Woman

Check the cdspringett.co.uk website under patterns.  There's a pattern of
forget-me-nots edgings.

[lace] lace: War Laces made in Belgium, WWI

2015-05-08 Thread Karen Thompson
The first group of 37 War Laces in the Smithsonian American History Museum
collection is now available for study on the web. Please give me feedback,
as this is a work in progress, and we have much to learn from you about
these important laces.

Click
on expand to see the relevant information on each lace. Clicking on each
picture will enlarge it. If this link does not work, try searching
collections.si.edu and then search War Laces. A few more will be added to
the website later as they clear some hurdles. The lace collection at the
American History Museum contains approximately 50 War Laces made by Belgian
lace makers during World War I, and donated by American collectors. I am
often asked why they are housed with American History, as they were made in
Belgium. Textiles were very important in developing early America, and are
therefore housed in this museum. Lace is part of textiles, and the donors
are Americans. Also, specifically for the War Laces, Herbert Hoover (later
U.S. President) played a large role in establishing the Commission for
Relief of Belgium during WWI. I have been a volunteer with the lace
collection for the last 16 years.

[lace] Every week an edging or insertion

2015-05-08 Thread Janice Blair
Gom,On the website there is a mention of a pronkrol.  What is the purpose
of a pronkrol?  Is it to keep your sample laces on for show and tell?
This is a pretty torchon edging.
JaniceThese edgings and insertions can be combined in a “pronkrol”.

This week’s edging is published on my site http://bit.ly/1wTaqm5
http://bit.ly/1wTaqm5.
It really is an edging to practice torchon lace with 2 different fans, and
several torch motifs.
Have fun with it this week. Janice Blair

Re: [lace] Every week an edging or insertion

2015-05-08 Thread Adele Shaak
Hi Janice:

It is like a sampler, with the laces attached to a piece of cloth that is
backed with another cloth. The backing cloth is turned to the front of the
piece and stitched to form a protective edge, with the samples running across
the pronkrol, inside the edges. As you thought, it is rolled up. There is a
lovely little YouTube video of someone unrolling a miniature embroidered
pronkrol - here:

Hope this helps.
