RE: [lace] Please don't use the lace@dont.panix address!
I would like to second Jeri on this. Sometimes members post to Arachne using software that doesn't send in plain text, and I get messages cut short - usually it is as soon as someone uses an apostrophe, then the rest of the message is missing. The only way I can read the message is to go to the Arachne archives, and if the don't.panix address has been used, then the message is not there. Best wishes for a very happy 2016 to all, full of lacemaking joys. [lace] a raffle & a request for help
Hi all Is anyone interested in taking over a fairly big needlelace project? I started a one-piece collar of autumn leaves (my own design) just as arthritis in my thumbs started to interfere with any needle-based craft activity and am never going to be able to finish it - the cordonnet is laid and a couple of fillings done (not very neatly, due to increasing difficulty in manipulating needle & thread - they may need cutting out & re-doing), and there it is, stuck in a cupboard; if anyone has the needlelace skills, time & inclination to take it on, make it their own and find a use for it, I will pass it on. There are no instructions, and no plan for which fillings to use - just a copy of the outline shaded to give a rough idea of colour placement, a selection of small reels of silk thread (various thicknesses and colours in an autumn leaf palette - red/orange/yellow/green/brown) which may or may not be enough to complete the collar and the started piece. Please email me privately if you are interested - if more than one person wants to take this on I will put the names in a hat & pick one out. I will pay postage to anywhere worldwide. And the raffle - a project I never got round to starting, embroidery rather than lace. It is a kit to make a canvaswork evening bag: complete magazine (New Stitches issue no.17 from 1994) including the instructions for the bag, canvas, padding, press stud, glass beads and tapestry needle. The only things not included are thread and lining fabric - you will need 10 skeins of stranded cotton in a main colour and 7 in a second colour of your choice (at the time I couldn't afford to buy those at the same time as the kit, and for some reason I forgot about it and never bought the thread). If you would like to enter the raffle for this email me privately - I will draw a winner on Sunday 10 Jan. [lace] Please don't use the lace@dont.panix address!
All Members, please note: When you send email to the _lace@dont_ (mailto:lace@dont) panix.com address, it does not go into the Arachne archives! I received 2 of the letters about the Christmas Ornament Exchange, both using panix. These slip ups remind me that my postings are not being read. Have written about this on a regular basis, reminding people to write to _lace@arachne.com_ (mailto:lace@arachne.com)Please focus on having an archive that can be searched years from now - by people not yet alive. Our unique lace history needs to be documented and preserved. It is unfortunate that many do not realize the importance of presenting people in the future with all the things we did to "save" lace. They will surely be delighted to find lace ornaments tucked away in a safe place with some documentation, the same way we are thrilled today, when we unexpectedly find lace treasures from the past. It is a special year as it is the anniversary of Arachne as well. We have received pictures of almost all ornaments and most everyone have received theirs. There is a problem with some which the partners have no control over. All we can do is hope they are finally delivered by the postal service. Please look at Jenny's website. She has done a fantastic job of displaying them. Next year, please consider joining us. This year we had a couple brand new lace makers and several who had never joined before. We just hope you all enjoyed the exchange as much as we have. Have a blessed and prosperous New Year. [lace] New Year Greetings
Happy New Year to everyone. I hope 2016 will be a good one for you. I hope everyone is safe from those terrible floods in England, - and the awful tornados in USA. What a crazy world - it is a sizzler here today - 39 expected for the city of Melbourne, and out here in the eastern suburbs it is usually 1 or 2 degrees hotter than that - so well over the century mark for those non-metric countries like USA etc. I have not heard of any Lacemakers living in the bushfire areas near Melbourne, so I am hoping they are all safe. Thank you all for your friendship, and sharing of knowledge etc. Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz. lizl...@bigpond.com - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Hello All I hope that all our lacy friends in the severe weather areas both in the UK and worldwide are not badly affected by the floods, tornadoes, winds etc. Here's thinking of you all!!! Please write in and let us know that you are safe!! Here in our area of the UK we are getting the wind and the rain, but it's not as severe as in the west side of the UK in Cumbria, Lancashire, West & North Yorkshire... at the moment!! I hope that others can barricade themselves indoors and make lace in the dry!! All the best to all of you for 2016!! Sue in East Yorkshire, watching the tide levels and the nearby flooding! Re: [lace-chat] Lacemakers and Tatters in Severe Weather Areas
And just to cheer you up in the UK - the big storm that hit Texas with rain, snow and tornadoes, just sailed through Canada dumping about 25-30 cm of snow with strong winds on Ottawa and then on to through the eastern part of Canada is on its way to you. We'd had no snow for Christmas and had just a little scattering of snow late on Boxing Day, but we surely made up for it yesterday. Malvary in a snowy, cold (only -9) Ottawa where we have a day of forecasted freezing drizzle, and I'm waiting for the snow-clearing chappie to come and shovel out the end of the drive from where the plough has gone by and dumped a 2 ft high snowbank.
