[lace] Charlie Brown Christmas tree

2016-09-11 Thread hottleco
Hello All! It was an interesting week--with cataract surgery & a near heart
attack over Digital Archives, you might think I would be resting & eating
bonbons. No--I've been making one-eyed lace! I had promised myself (& Allie
M) that I would practice my limited Idrija skills except life intervened last
winter. So I seized the day, dug out my bolster & tried a little tree pattern
that Allie suggested. It is now finished & posted to Flickr in spite of its
many flaws. By the time I realized that I had made an error on the first loop,
I was on the next row of tape so decided to improvise rather than unlace. That
just compounded the mistake so by the time I came to the last loop, the
multiplicity of errors skewed the lace. It is also very difficult to make
sewings with impaired depth perception! Long story short, by the time I was
done, I was laughing & thinking of Charlie Brown. Good grief! Sincerely,
Susan Hottle USA

After not making bobbin lace for over 15 years [due to osteo-arthritis]
and 4 house moves later, I've started sorting through my 500+ lace
bobbins that I collected over the years from various places - both home
and overseas, with a view to giving other lacemakers the chance to enjoy
them.

I've begun listing them on eBid.co.uk, but it's going to be a long job !

Please email me for a direct link as I don't think I can post it here.

Could someone also forward my post to Lace as I'm not on that list.

Many thanks,

Ann McClean

[lace] Bobbin book

2016-09-11 Thread Alex Stillwell
Hi Brian

Congratulations. I know how you feel, my books take at least 6 years each to
write and yours has been a lifetimes work. Thank you for making it available
to everyone, I will be one of the first to download and I will be printing it
out in full colour.

While I sell books when there are sufficient sales to make it worth while, I
think books that are out of print because no one will publish them should be
made available free. The Arizona free library is a wonderful resource.
Knowledge is wonderful and should be made available not be kept secret when it
no longer generates an income.

Blow the dust, let,s make lace

Alex
