Dear Sally,

I am a lace maker in Sedro Woolley, WA. I have a Chinese friend who is
willing to help with this. I would show her the techniques and she would
try to find the correct Chinese word. Would you like to have us try our

I have one from OIDFA, 2009, Bulletin 2, pg20 21. The picture is the size
discribed but the pattern is smaller. If you can not find your magazine I

Dear Spiders,
About a year ago I took a class and started the Binche Peacock piece. It is
about 12 cm (4.5) tall and 6 cm (2.25) wide, with rounded upper and
lower
ends.Well, life got in the way and I have misplaced the working diagram
(in my
house move last summer).Does anyone know where the pattern came from
(possibly
an OIDFA publication) or do you have the diagram itself.I thought it was
with
the pillow/pricking but it isn't there now. I am desperate to finish it
asap.
My goal for this year is to finish as many pieces as possible and get my
lace

materials more organized. Much of my lace things are still in the packing
boxes.

  Dear Delores,

We do not see in your memo from where you are writing. That might help in

Please remember, this is an *International* list. What is available in Europe

Dear lacers,
While we were out shopping for last minute props and costumes for the HS
musical this past weekend, we were at a flea market and I always hastely
glance for any lace paraphenalia. I managed to rescue this cluny lace
insertion. It measures 52 inches long and 3 and 3/4th inches wide. I
believe it is handmade because the leaf tallies are pointed on both
ends(unlike barmen machine lace as referenced to me from a previous post)
and you can see where the starter pins were and the lacemaker had tied the
thread ends together in knots on the other end. It desparately needs a
good
washing! If you know of the pattern or think it might be some other type
of

lace, please let me know. Below are some closeups of the lace:

Re: [lace] Thread Identification

2009-01-19 Thread Delores Miller

Thank you Brenda,

There is no label. The 'cone' is a plastic cyclinder and is not smooth. It
is about 5 inches in diameter and the thread is ecru. It was purchased from
a discount yarn shop in the sixties. I have used it to make samples of
edgings when I first started lace making in the nineties. It has a
stiffness to it that makes me think it is linen. It is still very stong and
I would like to use it for a table cloth edging and was curious. I will try
washing a piece first.

Hi everyone

Over the last month there has been a marked increase in the downloads of
the tutorials and PDF files on my website but very little has come to me
as feedback. Are they useful or have they just been looked at/downloaded
and discarded? I guess I am asking for feedback - good or bad on how the
files are being used. Has anyone done any of the free patterns? Can I see
a photo? Has my rambling been of help?

For those of you interested in adding beads to your torchon lace - I have
taken some photos as I added beads to my lace, included a few notes and
photo of the tool I use all included in the PDF on my site at

Once again, feedback on its usefulness (or lack there of) would be
appreciated.

I had good intentions of making a scarf from lace weight yarn. I picked
out
this soft fuzzy yarn to lace with. But instead I turned it into a cover
for

a pouch and gave it to a friend. I added beads on the tail ends instead of
working them in. Makes for good dangles. I then applied it to some
complimentary wool fabric. Here are some pics she took of the
pouch/purse

I made her:

http://bp3.blogger.com/_gmukDyOE-lQ/RucWZqtsiyI/AMs/4WZEHHPwMdk/s160
0-h/DSCF0187b.JPG

http://bp3.blogger.com/_gmukDyOE-lQ/RucVxqtsixI/AMk/lBniUiXubRU/s160
0-h/DSCF0188b.JPG

I made my own large roller pillow out of a hard tube that used to have
fabric rolled on it. I work in a band uniform manufacturing company that
throws out these 6 foot empty cardboard tubes(one of these days I will
make
a 6 foot roller pillow!! HAH). So I make use of them and have used them
for

the inside part of small and large roller pillows. I then wrap layers of
wool fabric and then finally a dense insulation foam. Then the two cloth
covers. Works like a charm! The bobbins I used for making this scarf
turned into purse/pouch were the big bobbins you get in the kit from
Hell.
I sure could use more of those if I was to make a wider scarf. If you
have

any you want to get rid of, I have a good home for them ;)

Someday I will actually make some scarves for gifts. Intentions are good,
but is one of those round tuits!

Subject: [lace] hands on demor for girls

I've been asked to teach a sample lesson to a group of
7 elementary school girls who are learning various
textile arts. I have two sessions of two hours to
use.

I plan to have a pillow for each one, and most of the
bobbins wound. At this moment, I'm thinking about
using the Springett snake pattern. I think it can be
done in the time available.

Each girl will have to wind one or two pairs of
bobbins to understand the process, but we won't have
time for them to wind all of them. The patterns will
be on the pillows. We'll only deal with the cloth
stitch and the single twist.

I have commandeered my lace friend to assist, so there
will be two of use to guide the 7 girls and their
leader. (I'll have her make one, also.)

My question is: Does anyone know of a better pattern
than the Snake for a quickie sampler project? I
haven't had time to search through my books since I
agreed to do these lessons next month.

If these girls really enjoy bobbin lace, I'll give
them more instruction later. They have been doing
spinning, weaving and knitting this year. A nationally
known native Indian basket maker is scheduled to give
them some basket weaving lessons. (We are very near
an Indian Reservation with many skilled people.)

They plan to do embroidery and crochet later. The
leader wants them to explore a wide range of textile
arts. I wanted bobbin lace to be included, so became
involved.
