[lace] Old postcard

2017-03-25 Thread Patricia Runcie
I have been sent an old postcard of bobbin lace being sold. On the back it
says:

"Bobbin made laces for sale, 1950.

"Spania Dolina, Slovakia, Czechoslovakia"

the photo ia by Frnatisek Kalesny

The picture shows a mass of women with three in the front each holding up a
piece of lace. One is a rectangular mat, one is a rectangular 'frame'
presumably made to edge a piece of linen or cotton material and the third
seems to be a rectangular mat but is definitely much longer than the first
one. All seem to be Torchon. There is lots more lace flat on the
stall/counter but design cannot be distinguished.

Re: [lace-chat] IT email help

2017-02-23 Thread Patricia Runcie
Hi David

I'm a fairly new user of Outlook and on my Pc Cc and Bcc are at the right hand
end of the address line when the 'forward' box is opened.

What I don't know what to do, I've just discovered, is how to trim posts. I
cannot delete your message as I could with Aol. If this turns out to consist
of several messages my apologies and I won't use 'reply' to the list again.

Dear Friends,

After more than 20 years I was recently forced to move from Eudora to
Outlook for my email programme. It's working OK but I can't seem to see how
to forward a BCC (blind carbon copy). I can do the CC all right but this
exposes everyone else's email addresses. Surely there must be a way?
thanks for any suggestions

Is the link broken? I haven't been able to access the ornaments today. Not a
techie here so I have no idea what I have done since I last visited the site!
The link published on Arachne does not work for me. When accessing Jenny's
site directly from Google, there is no category for the ornaments, just 2016
bookmarks. Will an expert please help? Many thanks. Sincerely, Susan Hottle

[lace] Missing mails

2016-12-11 Thread Patricia Runcie
I am another one who no longer receives Jeri's contributions - and i changed
my email in an effort to improve things. Outlook seems to want to put most of
arachne email into spam - which I correct - and even if it doesn't many
messages come with "warnings" which are quite safe to ignore after all these
years. I have also noticed recently that some come through without lace or
lace-chat in the heading.

Re: [lace] ADMIN: Survey Request - please send privately

2016-08-01 Thread Patricia Runcie
I'm not on the digest form but I found it boring to see replies saying 1B, 2C
or any other combination of numbers and letters. It has always been the
convention that replies to a survey are made direct to the person carrying it
out. Having said that, even if I don't participate in the survey I am usually
interested in seeing the result.

Just think about the Christmas card, bookmark exchanges and such like. Those
wishing to participate always respond directly to the organiser. the rest of
the list finds out who participated either through 'thank you' messages or by
looking at the photographs on Jenny's web page.

Helen and others,

I doubt that the data could be used for nefarious purposes. I also
wouldn't describe Anna's response as "animosity". She says she was
annoyed with the individual responses and that's a legitimate comment.
I don't participate in surveys myself, so I had no interest in the
outcome, whether on-list or off-list.

My objection was to the three digests filled with survey answers. If a
handful of people responded on the list and if their responses were a
couple lines long, I would have no objections. What I was seeing,
however, was 25+ lines per response. Our digests are only 10K. It's
not a lot of fun to scroll through pages of previously seen material.

OTOH, maybe I should stop enforcing the "Trim posts" rule. What do
digest subscribers say? Please reply to me privately, if you have any
thoughts one way or the other.

Thanks,

Avital

Hello Scottish lacefriends.

Next week I am going on holidays to Scotland. I would love to see some
lace: lace group, lace exhibition, lace in a museum, a lacemaker interested
in showing what she does... or whatever.

Have you made a trip before and can tell me something? I would appreciate
any information very much!!

Best wishes and have a nice summer!!

Antje González, in a very hot Spain.
