[lace] miniature lace
Hi I have done quite a bit of miniature lace and find silk thread perfect to use as you can divide it to the size you want. Although the Bart and Francis silk is a good size. Pipers silk also have a fine silk which can be used. You also need very fine pins - and a finer pricker. I attended a workshop with Ros Snowdon and this started me on the miniature lace. [lace] searching for pattern
Dear spiders I do hope one you can help me. I am searching for a lace pattern of a hand holding a piece of lace. I seem to remember the whole thing was lace but I cannot remember where I saw it and I would like to do the pattern if I can find it. Does anyone know of this design? RE: [lace] Horsehair lace
Hi Sue I have made lace with horsehair with Denise Watts. We had to cover our pillow with cling film as the lace is made wet. It was very springy to make but did not look too bad. Denise has made many pieces using horsehair. She made a lovely headband with horsehair and straw. Hi Sue At Last I can answer a question! I have a book called Kantklos allerlei by Leny Kolbe-van Rijn ISBN 90 6255 406 7 and there is a pattern of an Alsatian dog head. I am sure I have seen other dog patterns I just have to go through my bookshelves. RE: [lace]Bat pattern
Hi everyone, Ann Dyer designed a bat pattern for the members of the Lace Executive Committee when I was a member and I have the pattern but I do not have Ann's email Address to check if I can pass the design on. Maybe check through the Lace Guild. Sue Martin Farnborough, Hants, UK where it is cold and icy and I fell off my front door step and flattened my Daffodil bulbs which were just coming up - Drat!! [lace] Leif Christensen
I have been asked for the details of Leif Christensen e-mail is [EMAIL PROTECTED] They are a retired couple and lovely to talk to and very helpful. They supply the silk in 500 meters at a time on film reels which are really very easy to use. The unboiled silk is 3 ply and the boiled (for gimp) is 6 ply. It comes in black, white and some pastel shades. Sue M Farnborough, Hants. [lace]re: what am I doing?
Clay asked what were we up to? Well I do not post often but do try to keep up with the postings. At the moment I am making a rose motif in Chantilly lace in a thread which is a pale blue/grey colour and is unboiled 3 ply silk 250 thickness (very, very fine). I got the thread from Leif Christensen in Denmark after consulting with you wonderful people and I am having a wonderful if somewhat challenging time. The instructions in the book are not in english and I have been told I should have used the gimp double (this is 6 ply boiled silk 120 thickness) but as I have already done quite a bit I think I will finish as it is and make a better effort next time. I must try and get on a class with Lia Baumeister. Re: [lace] informal survey
Hi there I am currently trying to finish three half gloves for a wedding on 10th July. I have finished two and am working furiously on the third. The gloves have a hand made ring which is joined to a piece of lace which comes over the back of the hand and joins to a lace wrist band. This is my first real try at designing and has been quite a challenge but the Bride is pleased with my efforts so far - which is a relief! Re: [lace] Lace at the Globe
Hi jean One of my lace teachers, Chris Prentis, has been making the lace for the Globe theatre for about a year now. She has made many yards of metallic lace to edge pantaloons etc. I do not think she has made any hanky edgings. It has been very exciting for us to see the lace as Chris designs it and we get to view the samples. I do know that a lot of research goes into the costumes and they do try to find the correct materials etc to get the right feel to the production. [lace] [Lace] Chantilly
I thought I would let you know that having read all the helpful comments about getting thread for Chantilly I contacted Bodil and Leif Christensen and they have been very helpful. Did you know that there is a range of beautiful colours in this thread - beautiful pastel blues, purple, green, red, pink and yellow as well as the white, cream and black and grey. I would like to thank you all for your help. I am also contacting Pipers silk to see their fine silk range as I also do miniature lace (one twelfth scale) so fine silk is very useful.
