Re: [lace] Advent Calendar competition results

2007-01-03 Thread Antje González
Hello all Arachneans,

What a marvellous surprise to be one of the winners! I am really excited
about it!I Thank you very much Jean and David not only for the price, but
also for the kindness in making the Advent Calendar for all lacers every
year. I really enjoy taking part in in, although I realize that last year's
calendars have been much more difficult than this one's! This year's
calendar has been really interesting, because looking for the good answer,
we have been able to see all the stamps from everywhere. Although the first
Spanish stamp was not a stamp specially about lace, for us Spaniards it is a
very known stamp. In fact I used to collect stamps when I was young, and I
have part of this collection about the regional dresses of all our
provinces. I had an advantage in this case!

So thank you very much again, and to all Arachneans: have a very happy new
year, lacing and learning more and more!

Greetings from Antje, in Guadalajara, Spain

PD. I have finally managed to put most of my web site into English. So, if
you want to have a look at it, and know a small part of what is made in
Spain... the web site's name is written above.

[lace] Advent Calendar competition results

2007-01-03 Thread Jean Nathan
I add my thanks to Jean and David for the Advent Calendar. I managed to get
them all right with a lot less hair tearing than last year, when I couldn't
get the answer to one of them. This year, the first one (Spain) was the one
which caused me a problem. But I thought the part of the letter S visible on
the left edge looked very much like the S in pesetas on Spanish stamps.
Googling Spanish costume stamps confirmed it.

It's always great fun. Thanks.

The answers to The Lace Guild Advent Calendar Competition have now
been mounted on the website. Seems we made it quite difficult this
time, and although over 40 entries were received only a few were
completely correct.

Congratulations to the winners:

Christine Johnson (from Australia), Linda Lee (from the USA) and
Ilske Thomsen (from Germany)

and to all who took part. Hope it was fun.

Jean and David

PS
Could Linda Lee please contact us. Mail to the email address she
supplied on the web form bounces.

Well, the staff at the Hollies are back after the Christmas and New
Year break, so Maggie forwarded the advent calendar entries to us -
110 in all (beating the 77 entries of last year). We've just put them
into an electronic hat and picked out the three winners, who are:

Carla Guzzi (from Switzerland), Heather Muth (from Canada)
and Bridget Marrow (from Britain).

Congratulations to them, and commiserations to the other entrants
from all over the world. The answers and the credits for the designs
are now on the web site.

Our thanks to all those who sent good wishes, and wishes to everyone
for a Happy New Year.

Congratulations to them, and commiserations to the other entrants

PS
For those who asked about the heart on the 8th December - it's part
of a handkerchief corner in "Honiton Lace Patterns" by Elsie Luxton
(Batsford). We obviously couldn't tell you earlier as it was a
competition clue!
