[lace] Christmas Greetings

2015-12-26 Thread Beth Marshall
Season's Greetings to all. I hope those who celebrate Christmas had a
great day yesterday.

My Christmas presents included a copy of Alex Stilwell's book on Floral
Bucks Point - eye candy only for the time being as I won't have time to
master geometric Bucks, let alone Floral, until I retire :-) , but
lovely to look at.

Beth

In a rather soggy Cheshire, NW England - lacemaking weather rather than
Boxing-Day walk, I think :-)

With my preferred Christmas song, I want to wish all Arachneans a Merry
Christmas Season and a Happy New Year, in which health and love may be with
you. I also hope that you continue enjoying lacemaking as much as until
now!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S84RLgnz7Rs

Arachne is the best bobbin lace group I know, with so many people always
ready to answer and solve our lace problems. I have been on Arachne for
over 10 years and I must say that I have learnt a lot. I also try to
collaborate when I have a good answer or the time to do so. Unfortunately
there are many emails a day, and sometimes I have to delete them before
reading because of lack of time. But this does not mean they are not
interesting.

Best wishes from SPAIN (cold temperature, bright sun and Christmas carols
on the background...!)

I hope no arachnes in UK/western Europe have suffered damage in the storms. It
is very WET here, the marshes where Terry walks the dog are under water (rain
not sea) but the only damage we have is a couple of baubles blown off the
outside Christmas tree. Here in Kent most of the problems seem to be in the
Maidstone and Tonbridge areas; we are right at the north of the county.

2013-12-25 Thread Scotlace
Happy Christmas everyone.

I have been given two lace related presents this year - from the same
person. The first, beautiful, hand blown beads from Iceland, I wasn't
expecting. These will make good bottom beads for spangles. The second I did
know
about as I had been asked if it was of interest; Charlotte Kellogg's book
Bobbins of Belgium. Of course, i said 'yes' and already I have found many
of the photographs fascinating. I shall let Christmas be well and truly
over before reading it.

2012-12-24 Thread lacelady
Happy, and Lacy, Greetings to all for the holidays. I hope your New Year is
full of lace and pleasure.

I have a small tree on my table, covered with lace snowflakes. I have to admit
that they are crocheted. My aunt, who is now gone, made them. They have
special memories for me. I try to display them in some way each year, not
always on a tree.

She chose three patterns each year, marked them in the book so she knew when
she used each one so there were no duplicates, and made 50 of each pattern.
She started in January and ended in the summer. Then she had to starch them
all, about 8 at a time. This was the part that she didn't like, and would moan
about it in Sept and Oct, until all 150 were done. She put a set of 3 in her
Christmas cards, and the rest went to a charity sale.

I didn't put out many decorations this year, but the snowflakes had to come out.

Alice in Oregon .. where DH and I will celebrate tonight, and spend tomorrow
with a brother's family.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it and the greetings of the season to
all.

I wish you all you would wish yourself and your families in 2010.

I completed my christmas lace in advance of an expected visited from our
daughter last weekend which was cancelled at the last minute due to bad
weather conditions.
I have also spent some time very recently finishing off bits and pieces of
projects.A lace butterfly as a gift for a friend, the Ufo candleholders
for our daughter, lace exchange and family gifts, so now I need to decide on
my next project.

I had taken up my knitting needles for the first time in 15 years so I could
work and talk while she was around as I never get my lace pillow out when we
have visitors. Now my fingers and my brain have remembered how its done,
grin I am doing well with it but will start checking through my patterns to
choose my next bobbin lace task once I near the end of my cardigan knitting.
I need to concentrate on that first before I can get back into my lace.

Greetings to all.

Hello Everyone
I would just like to wish you all a lovely Christmas and a Happy
Healthy New Year for 2009.

My husband went shopping at Tesco`s at 7am [Its a 24 hour shop] for bread
and some fizzy drink.
He was shocked to see it so busy at that time of day.
There was`nt any other bread than 50/50.[brown and white]
So he asked the chap in charge of the bakery if there was any other bread
being cooked.
No said the man. He went on to say that the shop had very busy the whole
night, with people doing full grocery shops.

Adding to what Jean had said about greed.
I suppose some of the trolley`s piled high could mean that these people are
having a lot of guests over Christmas and New Year.

I do agree the panic buyers are about too.

Daphne We had sunshine this morning. Its dull and wintery looking now.

Yikes! That's definitely an old one.

I found the following in an old cookbook which my Mother used in the
'30s and '40s. It sounds pretty close to the original ingredients, and
at least they have given us measures!

4 pounds lean beef
2 pounds beef suet
Baldwin apples
3 quinces
3 pounds sugar
2 cups molasses
2 quarts cider
3 pounds currants
4 pounds raisins, seeded and cut in
pieces
1/2 pound finely cut citron
1 quart grape juice or cooking brandy
1 tablespoon cinnamon and mace
1 tablespoon powdered clove
2 grated nutmegs
1 teaspoon pepper
Salt to taste

Cover meat and suet with boiling water and cook until tender.
Cool in water in which they are cooked; the suet will rise to top,
forming a cake of fat, which may be easily removed. Chop meat
fine and add it to twice the amount of finely chopped apples. The
apples should be quartered, cored, and pared previous to chopping,
or skins may be left on, which is not an objection if apples are
finely chopped. Add quinces finely chopped, sugar, molasses, cider,
raisins, currants, and citron; also suet, and stock in which meat and
suet were cooked reduced to 1 1/2 cups. Heat gradually, stir occasionally,
and cook slowly 2 hours; then add grape juice or brandy
and spices.

A recipe following this one instructs us to assemble the pie with two
crusts.

[lace] Christmas Greetings

2007-12-22 Thread Brenda Paternoster
I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a healthy,
peaceful and prosperous New Year.

I haven't found the time, or inspiration, to put together an
electronic card this year, but the Advent calendar quiz is still on
my website. When it gets to 24th December where you live the last door
will open and you will see the form to submit your answers, with the
chance to win one of the small prizes.

I am aware that the javascript is a bit slow to open the doors but they
will remain openable until the end of the year The calendar will stop
working properly on New Years day, therefore you have until midnight on
31st to send in your answers, and because it's a mix of lace and family
history I will be pleasantly surprised to get any replies with all the
correct answers! It will probably take me a day or so to check all the
entries but winners, and the answers will be posted ASAP.

Merry Christmas to everyone

[lace] Christmas Greetings from Bev

2006-12-19 Thread bevw
Hi lace friends all

As some of you know, there was quite a storm in the Pacific Northwest area,
and more promised. Such a promise...
Throughout the ordeal I was sustained by a pretty machine lace angel made by
a friend. The ochre colour is unusual for Christmas, in my experience, but I
liked it so much I made a bell motif from one of Brigitte Bellon's books,
using a similar colour. The two lace pieces are part of my lace Christmas
'card' posted at my blog, url below. If you prefer, go right to the piccy
at this addy:

The best of the season to everyone, may all you want for Christmas come true
:D

Fw: [lace] Christmas Greetings from Brenda Terry

2006-12-15 Thread Sue
Brenda, the card is lovely and a great interpretation of it. Thank you for
explaining your method to all us interested lacers and also wanabee
designers, it gives us a glimpse into the trial and error processes.
Certainly encourages me to try in the future. Once life slows down a
little.

I feel like I am on a roundabout waiting for it to slow.
Wishing everyone an enjoyable holiday doing what you will enjoy, making
memories for the future.

With just over a week to go until the big day I've almost finished the
shopping, hung the decorations and written the cards.

the birds show their feathers.

Especially at Christmas,
Here's a greeting that brings
A whole lot of wishes
For life's nicest things-

May your lace give you pleasure
May your pins never bend
May the thread on your bobbins
Last right to the end.

May there always be prickings
And bobbins galore
And lacemaking friends
Coming in your front door.

And then through the New Year
May the same things hold true
So that each day is filled
With life's best things for you!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
