Re: [lace] Lace Guild - Poppy and Swan Bobbins for Members
Dear Jeri, I appears that the Lace Guild website has recently been updated. Sadly there are no Poppy bobbins but for the current membership year 2015-2016 the bobbins have the Lace Guild logo and heart outlines in blue. From the price and colour of the bobbins I guess they are made of bone and the only shapes on the website were Midland and Honiton. Best wishes fro Poole, Dorset where the sun is shining - again! It is late to join for current year, but may still be of interest. This year's featured design is a beautiful red poppy to commemorate the Great War. There is a special 2015 design for Young Lacemaker *Members*. This year, it features a swan, and it is 4 pounds (priced closer to their ability to purchase). - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Liz Pass is quite right - I updated the Lace Guild website last week and added the new Lace Guild membership bobbins for 2015-16 (the bobbins for 2014-15 are sold out except for a few Poppy continentals). If you can’t see the new bobbins you need to refresh your browser (or empty the cache if that doesn’t work). The new bobbins are lovely smooth wood and while they are more expensive than last year don’t forget that the price that you see on the website includes postage. I also added the 2016 Calendar - Rubies are red… I haven’t seen it yet myself but hope to be able to add some information about the contents soon. Next on my list for the Sales Page are the 2015 Christmas bobbins - there will be a bone and a wooden bobbin for ‘Seven Swans A-swimming” for those of you collecting the 12 Days of Christmas, and also painted bobbins with a Christmas wreath in Midlands, Honiton and Continental styles. The elephant on the Young Lacemakers page (https://www.laceguild.org/ylm/elephant.html) can be made as a simple outline for beginners - scroll to the bottom of the page to see this. A good way of providing something for a young lacemaker beginner is to take a simple outline and work it with 4 or 5 pairs in cloth stitch - the elephant outline can be downloaded from the page as a PDF file or the young lacemaker could draw her own shape. 2014-15 Lace Guild (UK) Members: The Lace Guild sells annual Midland, Honiton, and Continental bobbins - to *Members*. It is late to join for current year, but may still be of interest. This reminder is because a bobbin memento may be of interest if you participated in the *International Poppy Project* of one pattern worked in different laces. Many of these poppy-theme laces have been exhibited around the globe. Spellbinding to see them exhibited side-by-side. Is this your year to try Lace Guild membership, so you can buy the poppy bobbin? _www.laceguild.org_ (http://www.laceguild.org) Please explore this web site. You will be surprised to learn that Young Lacemakers receive their own quarterly publication. And, you will remember my glowing reports about the quality and quantity of information available in Lace - the 65-page quarterly magazine for adult members. Volunteers make this possible. The Lace Guild's calendars make nice gifts for friends, so you might like to check that out - for the friend who has everything. You will appreciate that the calendars have additional uses; they are more than calendars. 2016 will soon be available. If you are not in the UK, please note that US and UK Customs forms now require a Telephone/Fax or Email for person to whom an item is addressed. (I use the Telephone option, because that is public information, and I usually deny I use Email to limit junk.)
