not shown at all on my mail - not spam or trash or anywhere! Something very
peculiar going on!

[lace] Messages not getting through

2014-07-23 Thread Catherine Barley
I've read with interest the many postings on this subject which prompted me to
check on the email addresses of the 'Junk' mail received and they are almost
ALL aol addresses! Some are all AOL (upper case) and some aol (lower case).
Devon, all of your emails come through in my Junk mail too but you have been
able to receive replies from me in the past in response (Miss Channer's mat
and with scanned images as attachments). However, I notice that some of you
emails are lower case and some are upper case.

I have received quite a few enquiries as to the cost of postage for copies of
my book but when I have replied quoting the rather expensive postage costs, I
have not received a reply and naturally assumed that it was too expensive and
that they were not going to place an order. In view of the emails I've read
this morning, I am now going to go back through my files and check to see if
the emails were aol or not as I might have lost some potential sales!

I will not use exclamations marks (!) in my Subject titles neither with I use
all upper case to draw attention to the email. Thank you everyone for all the
very useful information posted.

Indeed, my recent posts to arachne have even gone into my spam box. I also
noticed that the aol was written in capitals, which looked odd to me. When
I write an email, I write it from my aol account and I have no idea why it
capitalizes (sometimes?) the aol part of the address or how that might be
changed. In fact, I sent a test message to myself and it came through fine.
It had lower case letters in it, although I sent it in the usual way. Is
there something happening to the letters aol that capitalizes them as they
pass through the Arachne software?

Not sure if this is pertinent to this discussion or not but I have been
having problems getting in touch with anyone at IOLI for quite some time.
Just recently I sent another inquiry about something.  In the past I sent
multiple messages to several people, with offers to write articles for The
Bulletin.  Either they have no interest in what I can offer, are too busy to
respond, or are not getting the messages. With my latest message (an offer
this time to spend/give them money even) I have already resigned myself to not
getting replies.

2014-07-23 Thread Malvary Cole
I don't usually have problems form Jeri, Celtic Dream Weaver and Devon, as
mention by Antje, but recently there was a message from Jane Partridge with
was replying to a message from Jacquie, who as most of you know is my
sister.

I don't have problems as we e-mail all the time, but there have been times
when she doesn't reply to a message from me - perhaps she has replied and I
haven't go it. She has an aol address.

My ISP just deletes the message so I don't know if there are messages I
haven't received.

It seems that yahoo email addresses are taken as spam now as well as AOL. I
hope someone at IOLI sees your message here and will get in touch with you?

[lace] Messages Not Getting Through

2014-07-22 Thread Adele Shaak
This isn't lace-related, but it is list-related so I hope the ListMom will
forgive me for posting.

At the end of June, I was in the process of ordering some supplies from the UK.
This involves messages back and forth for various reasons, and we had just
started the messaging - I had given them my order and they had come back to me
with the shipping cost - when they stopped answering their e-mails. I sent them
more messages. No answer. After a week I thought maybe they had shut down or
something, so I telephoned.

That's when I discovered that they *had* been sending me messages, and were
wondering why *I* wasn't replying!

In Canada, new anti-Spam legislation took effect on July 1st, and my supplier's
messages had somehow been flagged as Spam. With the standard setup at my
service provider, anything flagged by them as Spam is automatically deleted - I
don't even get the message. Now I have changed those settings so that my Spam
goes into a special folder on their website - it is still not downloaded to me.
Every couple of days I go in and see what I've got, and there are usually one
or two addresses that are not spam at all, and I flag them as OK and download
them to my mail software, where they appear marked as Junk.

This morning, one of those messages was a normal Arachne message from Jeri. It
had the subject line Spangles! and I can see why it was flagged - the subject
has an exclamation mark. That's one of the things that triggers Spam filters,
and I try not to use them.

Hope this helps. I only found out what was happening because I remembered about
the new legislation and complained to my service provider.

Further to my last message - another thing that triggers Spam filters is if you

Re: [lace] Messages Not Getting Through

2014-07-22 Thread Bev Walker
Hello everyone
For what it's worth, aol, yahoo addresses and any message with capitalized
words in the subject line land in my Spam folder now. I have since added
the lace correspondents to my contacts. I noticed messages from Leonard,
Devon, Jeri, Patricia, and Hazel in the recent 50, along with some flyers I
like to get and wondered where they were - each of the latter had CAPS or
strange letters in the subject line. Thankyou Adele for pointing out the
Spam triggers.

I investigated Gmail's Spam advice. Having added the above to contacts,
their messages will now show in my Inbox. I hope so.
