Re: [lace] Returning to lacemaking after long

I'd suggest starting with the lace you most enjoyed making in the past. If
you're already enjoying the pleasure of holding the bobbins again, I'm sure
you'll find it'll come back to you quickly - kind of like riding a bike.

2015-05-03 Thread Bev Walker
Hello micki (and everyone)

Welcome back to lace ;)
My free advice is to start with a pattern with just a few pairs to get a
sense of the process as you mention. It doesn't need to be a beginning
pattern, if you can see right away what you need to do to start - a
bookmark is logical or could be a motif like a Christmas ornament. Of
course you will likely need to try different arrangements with the pillow,
you and chair/table, or standing comfortably with the pillow. Maybe even
winding bobbins is going to be painful, or could end up being therapeutic!

Please let us know how it goes!
Good luck

Welcome back to lacemaking Micki I suspect it might be like riding bike.
You never completely lose the knack I am sure you will quickly get back in
stride.

I'd be tempted to enlarge a simple bookmark pattern to about 300% plus and make
it using yarn as a slim scarf. The pattern would make up quick to get you back
in the saddle and using the large pattern would work well with getting you back
to the pattern.

[lace] Returning to lacemaking after long

2015-05-03 Thread micki cameron
I have not been making lace for best part of four years and suspect that it
won't be easy to return to it, as I suffered a bad injury to my right
shoulder with chronic pain as a legacy. But I think the time is right to
give it a try.

At the time of the accident I was at beginning of intermediate level I
would say.

Where should I start? Right at the beginning doing bookmarks etc? (it's my
inclination to make a couple to refresh my knowledge and skills) but I am
curious re what you would advise.

I know I might not last long at the pillow initially, maybe never, but feel
I need to at least give it a go.
